  • black caviar woul beat him, and make him loo like a maiden galloper running at warracknabeal

  • Rocket Man's probably just a smidgen better on turf than he is on a synthetic surface. But his form is always rock solid. I personally believe he'll reverse the form with Kinsale King in Dubai and win the 2011 Golden Shaheen. JMO.

  • @GBeret83 and it happened.

  • @GBeret83, He sure enough won the Golden Shaheen. But he didn't get the chance to reverse the form on Kinsale King, because he was scratched out of the race. Wouldn't have mattered anyway, IMO. Rocket Man's looked as good so far in 2011 as he's looked at anytime in his career. Kinsale King was much better in 2010 than he's been in 2011. So I believe Rocket Man would've won the Golden Shaheen this time, even if Kinsale King had been in the field. JMO.

  • @GBeret83 Rocket Man is contesting in the Cathay Pacific Sprint in Hong Kong this 11/12. Do wish him luck.

  • @aloozer, I know. Looking forward to those 4 G1's at Sha Tin on the 11th. Rocket Man is my pick to win this year's Sprint. But I do believe if he run's as well at Sha Tin as he's run this season in Europe and Canada that Bated Breath could be a very live threat in that race, too. Dream Ahead beat him by a whisker twice this season in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket, and the G1 Sprint Cup at Haydock. Then he had another narrow loss to Regally Ready in the G1 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine.

  • @GBeret83 oh yeah that Bated Breath, just watched him in a video with him running in the Nearctic Stakes, though I don't really know or am able to speculate much about him. I just wish that Rocket Man will get all the luck he needs and not be caught trapped in a box, like what happened to him in the Nakayama race.

  • @aloozer, Check out Bated Breath's run's in the G1 July Cup and the G1 Betfred Sprint Cup from this season, too. Both races are on YouTube. He was beaten even more narrowly in those 2 races by Dream Ahead than he was beaten by Regally Ready in the Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine. And IMO, Dream Ahead is much tougher sprinter than Regally Ready is. JMO.

  • @GBeret83 I've just watched both races, yeah Bated Breath looks like a very competitive horse. Gotta check out Bated Breath's timings before I place my bet this sunday's race.

  • @aloozer, If both are at their absolute best at Sha Tin, Rocket Man is the faster horse of the two. But if Rocket Man is off of his game in the slightest, and Bated Breath is at the top of his game, he could certainly slip in there and spring the upset, IMO. My gut says that Rocket Man will be the most likely winner of the Hong Kong Sprint. But If you play exotics, you'd definitely have to consider using Bated Breath in them. JMO.

  • @GBeret83 Rocket Man has bene placed barrier 13 out of the 14 barriers. Go google on the various barrier placings of the horses. I've got a gut feeling that some of the HK horses might win this race, like Lucky Nine, or maybe even Little Bridge(?).

  • Rocket Man has met Hong Kong gallopers twice and he's been beaten fair and square twice. AND on his own turf. Good horse but not the "World's best"

  • @Danehill Actually 3 times. The last time he d/h'ed with One World (Aus) in the Jockey Club Sprint. Sacred Kingdom (Aus) ran 6th, though I'd expect him to improve sharply in the International. I think the I'national will be a real "who could beat who affair," mainly because of the presence of Ortensia (Aus). she ran a 6L 3rd to Black Caviar (Aus) at her last start. BC & Sacred Kingdom (Aus) are both rated at 125. So we could draw some a form line btw them. Pity we'lll never see them hd 2 hd.

  • @bgardiner2000 Hey mate..when I wrote that it had only been twice. I was actually at Shatin the other day when they deadheated. Rocket Man is a super horse. I might well have to eat my words! Ortensia is a great little mare (though she very nearly had a bad trackwork accident the other morning!)

  • @Danehill Yeah? Well it would continue a run of bad luck for Aust-trained horses at Sha Tin. That and the strength of the HK sprinters hasn't made it the best hunting ground for the O/S contingent. I'm looing forward to it. Should be a good race, as should the Internat. I might well be travelling thru next w'end so I might see if I can swing by. I think Ortensia at her best could run a cheeky race. Place at best that company. Not sure of the prices but be on Americain in the Vase. He's special.

  • @Danehill And how good are the camera angles that they use in Singapore?

  • @bgardiner2000 I assume you're referring to the ones when they're going around the circle? Yeah, they're pretty good. Better then watching the Japanese racing coverage anyway. I saw Americain work this morning. Nice horse. Vase is his for the taking if he holds his form.

  • @Danehill Yeah the angles where there's a vehicle running ahead of the horses. I've seen the same elsewhere but in S'pore it's awesome.

Yeah Americain's a nice horse. I thought after the Geelong Cup he was a bit dour but he proved in the cup that he's got pace to boot. Still don't think his rating is correct, but probably not far off it. I'm at work and can't get odds. What's the market looking like for the strint and the Vase?
