You got to give Quentin Tarantino who rediscovered Dick Dale and his music back to life again after the Pulp Fiction Movie that got him on the map as a director that made movies enjoyable again. Dick I`m sure is still out there performing and no one will ever match the guitar stylings of the surf guitar legend.

You are so right! There is indeed a connection between the surf-sound/twangy sounds and Morricones western-music. I am a big fan of both Dick Dale - Duane Eddy - Morricone.
