  • Very interesting. Great video.

  • What an inspiring man!

  • This is kind of what Im planning to do in 6 or 7 years after priorities are strieght... not sure where to go to find property though

  • how close are the outhouse and that 'drinking water'?...

  • thats awesome

  • Build homes like these for the homeless and low-income families.

  • @charlespeterwatson

    They won't, because our

    Culture wants poor and homeless

    People to just die

  • Really? They robbed his tiny village??? who the f*** would do that??

  • Are you a guy or a girl?

  • Dear Dan,

I just picked up your book Radical creating an authentic life.

I love it.. Keep up the good work. Too bad you have to put together

    a youtube on your tents/domes...

  • Very interesting!!!

  • so they just..... walk into the guy's house when he isn't home?

  • The rock work is still amazing! ...This man makes reality... Magical

Imagine living in such gracefull simplicity~Inspireing

    thank-you for sharing

  • well, I like it ....regardless of other's opinions. more of us should get back to the basics. this is very inspiring to me.....thank you very much for posting!

  • what happens if he gets fat and cant fit out the door?

  • its like he locks u in there and totures u

  • It doesn't look like anything survivalist, or "living with less".. looks like some rich guy who blew a crap load of money on modern construction to live in a hill..

  • Actually, he's not got much money at all, and it was built by hand with found and some store bought materials. Guess that's a successful attempt at living with less... the appearance of being a yuppie indulgence when it's not!

  • @Galfromdownunder He had to have had some money to buy the property, unless he is squatting there. I would love to just set up a home like that by me but there is so many hassles with privacy and accessibility. Location is paramount but when you buy it, expect the state to get nosy after a long while.

  • @Galfromdownunder He doesn't refer to himself as a survivalist, and he's living in an 8-foot hole in the ground. How much more minimal would he have to be to satisfy you?

  • modern construction? where do you see such a thing? I think this is a person in tune with nature, and himself..

  • @indyfitz Carpet, flat cut and clear finished wood paneling, electricity..

  • He had mentioned that it was part of a house already, he just used the smallest room for the underground house, electricity has been around since edison :)

  • @Casper48022 I agree, he said he'd drink pond water WRONG running water is your best option.

  • @42006mjc If you listen the pond is fed by a natural spring.

  • @Casper48022 what do you live in if he is not living with less?

  • I remember as a child, watching the Swiss Family Robinson and wanting to build a house in a huge tree. This is actually something that is doable, but most people would not put the work in to do it.

I also think that as you get older, and if you are of ill health that this wouldn't work. But imagine if you lived like this for only 5-10 years. How much money you could save, working normally.

Then you could pay cash for a regular house if you wanted, or upgrade this place.

  • I had an anxiety attack contemplating using that cramped front door. I have a recurring nightmare of being squeezed in small passageways that wakes me up in a sweat.

I love everything about the house but the tiny door.

  • I thought the exact same thing, why would a person want to be squeezed in like that?

I was mentally backing out as he was just reaching into turn the light on.

Imagine if some devious teens took and blocked his door shut while he was in there, I suppose he could tear a hole through the roof, but I'd rather be able to stand up in my living space.

  • he could sell this property for a $million given how unique it is.

  • silly man everyone needs at least a 3 car garage!!

  • How does he generate electricity for the lighting and other electrical utilities?

  • I think its from the grid.

  • I have his book and have enjoyed it over the years.

  • are there any more videos of this place? its great - i wanna see it all in bettter detail .looks really cosy and somewhere to relax and get your head together

  • neat-o

  • Why don't you ask him. He can be contacted by googling Moonlight Chronicles I think.

  • The rock work is so amazing! ....I wanted this video to go on and on....

    This man makes reality... Magical

  • Haha, I live near this guy

  • excellent!

  • wow i love it

  • That is like the most perfect location for such a simple little place of refuge.

Amazing, thanks a lot for sharing.

  • Very cool! Dan Price is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing this video!

  • ahhh this is my dream house...

who needs a normal huose when u can buy a block of land, and dig your own house (which is great for the enviroment) for around $50.......

however whatever you do dont use gas as the goverment will be on your door step!!!!!...

WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN A HOBBIT COMUNE?????

  • i wanted to know how he kept roof from leaking but if you do not know that is ok.

  • That is amazing! Where is this and is this on your private property? How do you keep roof from leaking?

  • He rents the space in a field for $100 a year or something. He keeps the roof from leaking the same way you keep yours from leaking - skilful work. I always felt that all a person needs is a small piece of land and a source of water as Dan says - all these people who own 200 acres etc - what on earth for - you can't eat it or take it with you ...

  • Thanks for directing your comment at me without answering my question.

  • It's in Joseph, eastern Oregon. @#$% cold in winter, but not in a space like that! a tiny ceramic heater heats the hole in 5 mins flat then you can turn it off.

  • so cool!! i wanna live underground in the forest.:)

  • NICE!!!!

  • I am reading (don't want it to end) radical simplicity...and loved this video....timely...I have read dans current book, and the *make a journal of your life*...very interesting, to say the least...makes me want to downsize, at least the contents of my house, do I need all of this STUFF...already live in 960 sq feet so...I believe it is small enough...Dan, keep drawing and writing....

  • very very cool. I wonder how adaptable something like that would be to a rain forest?

  • I would love most of that cept the tiny little itsy bitsy house. I need more room and dont say "You would be surprised how little you need and blah blah you get used to it and the outdoors become your home" and all that jazz. I have certain proclivities and talents and space and tools are required to make the most of them, so there. Dont friggin talk to me about small footprints- JUST GET OFF MY CASE!

  • I understand how you feel, the main thing to remember is we all have our needs.. the key is to achieve balance between needs and living in balance with mother earth... you can be just as sustainable in a slightly larger setup as dan is with him.. its just a matter of balance and figuring out how small you can go comfortably.. some can like dan go real small others need a slightly larger footprint.

  • I was astounded at how 'spacious' this place felt. Not in square feet, but in the terms of the possessions you really need - something to wear, something to sleep on, somewhere to prepare food, something to read. Perfect...

  • and DRAW!!!!!!!!!!

  • it may make you turn off your computer and go lay in a field.....

  • read this guys zine

  • Mazin'

  • this guy is my idol
