As I've previously mentioned, Sidney Sheldon was denied permission to film the pilot and the first season in color because Screen Gems, according to Sheldon, didn't think the series would LAST through a full season (and Screen Gems could be cheap at times). Bill Daily had a very "minor role" in the pilot [he only had a few lines], as ONE of Tony Nelson's "two buddies". After the pilot episode, Don Dubbins' role as "Pete Conway" was eliminated, and "Roger" became Tony's sole best friend.
No the pilot was shot in color but NBC aired it in black & white and ordered the rest of the episodes in BW. Season 2 and the rest of the series was shot and aired in color
Was Bill Daly (Roger Healy) on during the first season? I remember him being on through the series' run, but I didn't see him in the opening credit of this clip.
I didn't even know they colorized season 1. I remember when Nick at Nite used to show I Dream of Jeannie. It was the only place to see the black and white episodes of Jeannie and Bewitched as syndication never airs those episodes (but they'll still run black and white episodes of Gilligan's Island)
This is the "colorized" version of the first episode, originally telecast in black & white on September 18, 1965. Sidney Sheldon wanted to film the series in color from the beginning, but the studio advised him, "Save your money" [he even offered to pay an extra $400 an episode for color in season one, and they still refused]. He had to wait until season two...
The first season was in black and white. From the second season on, it was in color.

The first season theme (and score) was written by Richard Wess. The animated title was created by DePatie-Freleng [and drawn by Gerry Chiniquy].
