i REALLY like the singing, but its just not right... like its been said a lot here, they just sing too nicely for the Thenardiers... but just by adding some appropriate characterization and this could be amazing! :D
The landlord should of been more nasty and greedy.
The costumes were too bright for my taste...this is supposed to be a dark depressing play yet there's happy bright costumes....and the people should of acted more drunk
@bronnie cudos. You really summed up my feelings about this adaption of a great song. where's the slob? the cottney accents? they sound so f*ing clean! St. John's; you fail big time
Bronnie: "ginger" is s stupid term. the term is "redhead"! and in the original book mme. Thenardier is lanky, scrawny, and much taller than her husband
the guy that play the land lord is a good singer ... AND THATS WHAT MAKES HIM SUCK AT THIS PRAT .....the landlord needs to have a cottney accent to make him sound common!!!!
AND THE LAND LADY IS SHIT SHE IS NOT FAT OR GINGER AND THAT PART ONLY WORKS IF YOU ARE SORRY BUT IT DOES
i'm not dissing fat gingers i'm one myself :D xxxxxxx
there is something about it that jsut does not work... but i dont really know what its is...probably there voices....they sound too...er...singy? i know that doesn't really make much sense. these people just aren't evil enough!
They're too nice and well spoken. Definitely not evil or disgusting enough. Interestin that they had a larger Monsiuer and a thinner Madame, it's always the other way round, even on the West End or Broadway.
The stage isn't set up very well really, and this guy doesn't have a great voice... no offence meant, of course. Just comparing it to Bicester Community College's version (showing this week) and our's is much more lively, more drunken and Madame Thernardier is supposed to be really common and greasy, but it's not portrayed like that in this one... good job though.
What bugged me the most was the costumes were to bright. Agh it drove me insane. Also Thernardier is supposed to be this gritty greasy person. Most of the song he screams and sings. You all have really good voice but just not what it's supposed to be.
AHHHHHAAAAA terrible please America don't attempt this. 0:58 almost pissed myself. You sound way too nice not greasy or gritty, it also seemed rushed dont be nervous!!!!!!! And get a better sound system!!!!!!
So obviously, a catholic school in the US doesn't do the usual censorship of "shit" and "arse"? Or is this a baptist thing only? ;-) The singers, however, are okay for a school staging. There acting is hysterical, though.
My school could probably do just as good even though we have talented people in our school (unless going to the principals twice in a day talent). I'm the only person in my school who actually has acting talent.
Wow. It's a wonder why my school doesn't post our videos on youtube. Our musicals are always so good, and we have casting directors and casting directors coming from everywhere, but mostly L.A. and N.Y.C., but mostly New York. I was in Les Mis, Seussical, 42nd Street, and Thoroughly Modern Millie at my school. I'm not trying to brag, but I just want to find ONE school that's at least as good as us.
my word casting director's that's alot of money wasted, cuz they still have to work with whoever's there. And my school is probally better than urs, so i don't even see y u would even post that comment.
No offense, but it's really not that good. You'd be surprised. The only person I could find on youtube who was in the play was Erin Whitcomb. She played Eponine. Check her out. She's pretty good.
Not enough mondy? That's why you do fundraisers. How big are your playbills or programs or whatever you use?
lol. It's a possibility. Just because we have talent scouts coming to our school doesn't mean we're the best. I live in PA, but my friend who lives in Illinois got to go to London because his school was the best in his state. But yeah, almost no doubt your better than these guys. I'm not racist, but did you notice that most of them are asian?
Get off of your high horse. I viewed your videos and your "monologue" wasn't even that great...it wasn't bad, it was about average. This guy has pretty good voice, just some slight problems with intonation. But I do agree that his voice seems to nice to play Thernardier.
lol the heavy bag was funny and it was good that the madam has more lines but she doesn't have the proper accent and she could've used some padding. The chorus was rather flat.
The set is actually quite well done (the Bdway show is also minimalistic like this, remember.) But the lighting; atrocious! What are those two hot beams of light doing on that back flat?
In a weird way the problem is that the wife and the thenairdier's voices are too smooth! But geez, stalkingburlesque, it is pretty stupid to compare a high school production to the Original.
I think the acting was decent, but I'd like to see more power in the singing. It just sounded like some people singing a song instead of the thernadiers. Other than that, very good for a high school production.
these kids just aren't old enough to play these characters.they think they've got to sing pretty more than make good characters.they did the best they could though
Seems quite a well staged production for a school. Sound levels are poorly balanced which is a shame. Thenardier has a strong voice which isn't helped by the microphone's misbalance. I like the inclusion of more of Mme Thenardier in the song, which is different from the versions I've seen.
Thenardier: Good singing voice but could of done with a bit more character in there. I agree that his voice isn't quite "rough" enough, but I suspect he could have pulled it off with a bit more character in his voice.
Mme Thenardier: Really misses the emphasis of a number of her lines, doesn't seem to fit the part at all. Sings out of tune in places and again isn't helped by being overpoweringly loud due to the sound imbalance. Too thin, too reedy, and gestures are a bit too big.
Chorus: Underpowered, partly due to lack of bodies (though it's a school production, it could have had a few more people in a separate choir off stage if they wanted), not helped by the misbalanced sound.
Overall: Not a bad go for a school - getting the sound levels right would have /really/ made a difference though, and the casting particularly of Mme Thenardier could have been better.
i think mem thernadier did a great job. i actually like a softer voice compared to some screaming french woman. although everybody has their opinions.
what are you a f***ing theatre critic, yes make some constructive pointers but don't rip them apart, espeicaly when they've done so well, my god you should have seen our school prodution, no stage, just blocks of wood and no sound system apart form a "choir" and a piano.
i really dnt wana come across rude, cos im guna be thenarider and im sure ppl will be able to find fault in my role, but he's singing it too well! thenarider shud have a character voice... he shudve been marius or sumin!!
i agree!! there's an arrogant tone to him (how its SUPPOSED to be) in the beginning of this.. h was singing sweetly, THEN he got terrific with the accent (and sometimes switched in and out). 60 thumbs up.
i personaly don't see what all the fuss is about, its a brillient production, only slip i noticed was "here the Moose is cooked", should be goose. i think the gestures add a great comic value to it. Wish we had had this kinda technolagy for my school play, 10 small crates had to make up the stage :(
i think this should be clarified. It's not that Thenardier was terrible; it's that he should NOT have had that role. His voice is too soft for that part.
Yes he could have acted better but folks, he's still pretty young.

Ok, I'm sorry. I dont despise these kids, because I'm pretty much one of them, and I know that this is no excuse, but let's just say that our production of les mis school edition is under a bit of, um, scrutiny, and maybe i used these poor kids to vent my frustration. I'm sure they had a great show, but thernadier should have been Marius, he voice is too sweet.
I though Thenardier and Mme. Thenardier's costumes weren't ratty enough, they seemed a little to nice. And yea, Thenardier needs to be more evil, he seemed a bit to jolly. Mme. Thenardier was good, but the line "Master and a half" wasn't as mockingly as it could have been, really.
yea.. there voices are WAYYY too perfect for these roles. thats i guess in a way a compliment. like.. i would of given BETTER roles to those two. bc theres voices are too pure. these roles should be played by people with.. raspy voices. lol
umm...well i just played madam thernardier in a version of les miz..andwell im kinda dissapointed with this video...the thernardier has a good voice.. but he is not a thernardier at alll in any way shape or form same goes for the madam
he sounded to nice, more like Marius or something like that :) and there wasn't any kind of character in the voice, it was just a voice sining the song, and the ensemble didn't sing high enough :/ But i love your set and costumes
thenardier's voice doesn't suit well for this role.. its too nice. and it is supposed to be funny, and i hardly laughed at all ... oh and why is there only ONE table? its supposed to be a pub lol :/
I like it much better than the phrase "school edition" would imply.

I loved this scene when our school did it, and there was a lot of people on stage. Our Thenardier was funnier.

the first traveler is hilarious. I can imagine: "God, the Westerners are freaks."

yea.. there voices are WAYYY too perfect for these roles. thats i guess in a way a compliment. like.. i would of given BETTER roles to those two. bc theres voices are too pure. these roles should be played by people with.. raspy voices. lol

he sounded to nice, more like Marius or something like that :) and there wasn't any kind of character in the voice, it was just a voice sining the song, and the ensemble didn't sing high enough :/ But i love your set and costumes

the Thernardier doesn't really have a good voice for the role. he has a good voice, but it doesn't really fit the character...it's like..too soft
