I'm a white Australian female - I took a lot of Australian History electives and I often found myself wishing I could be a part of that culture, your culture. So much is lost we all will never reclaim. Even in my work (I'm a Zoologist working in conservation) we often talk of how much Indigenous knowledge is lost, techniques we would today use for the betterment of nature had the genocide not occurred. I mourn for what we lost every day. For you the pain must be tenfold.
My belief is that life is what we make it. Yes many were taken for reasons that were not "good enough" but just remember it was happening to white children also. They were also free to return home (when possible) once they were 18 and could fend for themselves. In many documents of the time they speak of the steps taken to protect them not destroy them.

Wow, has this video taken hold. It has sparked quite the discussion here in the U.S. Interesting how so many of us are (yes, I said ARE, not were) affected by colonialism. history or not EVERYONE needs to take responsibilty for where they and what they do. Regardless of wether your black,white ,yellow or any other colour. I dont pity aboriginals nor do i despise them, there is good with the bad as with any race. But for anyone to burn the australian flag is not doing any good for anyone. Burning the aboriginal flag would create the same reaction amongst those whom it offended regardless of colour.
One question. who coined the name "aboriginal"?

I think its quite ignorant for people to assume we get freebies? lol I studied to get my degree and I still have to pay HECS where is the freebie in that? I was a full time student so I received abstudy which is exactly the same as austudy, If you cannot afford university you get this payment. Same as in highschool, in a low socio-economic income both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous can get this payment at the age of 16. So much ignorance in this great country.

AND yes it might in the past, but my grandparents and aunties and uncles who lived throughout it all are still here today! and we have a responsibility to them, to educate people of the atrocious history they've endured from previous Australian governments. and thank them for paving the way. Australia has come along
