  • Agree with mssdusty love both. Both great divas

  • Brilliant post - brings back so many memories

  • i can dance to this one easily....evie wins!

  • CLASSSSSSStune. I've got this lady on my friend's list on Facebook. Cool.

  • @merseymain Nice one.

  • I LOVE BOTH...FROM USA.CALIFORNIA

  • I am so proud to have had Evie accept my friendship in the last hour, over on Facebook. One of my all time favourite tunes. "happy christmas dear X" Andy Parry. Liverpool,UK.

  • Love Madeline Bell's and this too. This was the one I used to hear more of but I think they are both brilliant versions of a great song. ktf

  • Great song and singer but Madeline Bell has the edge.

  • That is debateable...both are great. I like Evie's alittle better. It was also the original version...

  • I dissagree. First of all Evies vocal is much stronger and controlled and to be sure much more emotional. She's telling the story with her voice not just singing the notes.. The backgrounds are much superior as well. Blended and fit with the lead... They dont stick out like a sore thumb like in Bell's version

  • Evie gets my vote, but to say her vocal is much more controlled than Madeline Bell's isn't really the case. Madeline Bell stands out in the R&B field for her control - it's no surprise she went into singing Jazz.

All being said, can't beat the false fade-out and return fade-in on Evie's version.

  • Madeline Bell's version is very good, but Evie Sands' delivery can't be beat. She has great diction. Gawd she is a great singer.

  • A great song that never even cracked the Top 100 in the US.

    Go figure.

  • Go figure?? HAH! This country has had it's collective heads up their asses forever w/respect to playing a diversity of music and making hit's. IT's a shame that we have to become archivophiles to find lots of great music that "SHOULD HAVE BEEN" played.

  • A classic.

  • THis is by FAR my fav. Evie tune..... She continues to have a VOICE that kicks BUTT!!!! Not much she has done that I dont LOVE!!!!

  • Did this version come out before Madeline Bell's? I know Madeline's came out in 1968(the flip side of "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me".I like both versions. They seem very similar. If Evie's was on Cameo/ Parkway,my guess is it must've come out pre-1967.Thanks for posting.
