  • gooodd.........

  • Tell Yo WHAT.... Why dont you run a Vista Ultimate SP2 (x86) and make a video of how Vista runs on a Intel Core i5 3.2 Ghz with 2 GB RAM and play a game like Black ops @ FULL Resolution and full bit depth and full graphics features with a 512 Mb NVIDIA DDR5 24 Bit and lets so how much of a monster this Core i5 Really is? HUH

  • I just got a stable push to 5.17GHz but the fan on my H50 wasnt very happy, these things can go so far.

  • i7 870 vs i7 950

    p67s x58 ??????

  • am i the only one that realized you said H55 not P55 :D nice video, really helpfull!

  • @MediaMocker No one said anything about justifying the price. You said they were a hell of a lot more expensive and they arent. And this is a video by Linus, if you dont care about him why watch and comment on his vids? He is a lot more respected then you artard.

  • Unlocked multipliers are good in some ways, but a locked multiplier chip is a hell of a lot cheaper and generally beat unlocked cpu's clock to clock by pushing the fsb or qpi to its limit at a cost of virtually no more voltage or extra heat.

If you want to get that extra performance bump at the same clock u basically need to overclock an unlocked cpu like a locked one anyhow. This was very evident back when d0 stepping i7's came out and the 1000$ more extremes couldnt beat the 920's till 32nm

  • @MediaMocker That isn't true. Besides the fact that they aren't really more expensive for these chips. The Extreme editions are a hell of a lot more expensive, but the K processors are only ~$25 more expensive.

And they are just as fast clock for clock when overclocked using the multiplier. The reason being that increasing the BCLK is not like increasing the FSB speed of the older processors. The interface with the system still stays pretty close to stock speeds.

  • @newtekie1 they are more than 25$ over a non K processor equivalent (not to mention an even cheaper eq in max oc), increasing the BCLK to max out the qpi actually has MORE of an effect than FSB not less. do a say 3.5ghz OC with the absolute highest possible qpi/bclk on the lowest multi, (and no not on some shit mb that will max out bclk before ur cpu will max out qpi oc) then do one on the highest multi, run some benchmarks and you will prove your theory as incorrect, sorry but you are wrong :)

  • @MediaMocker The i5 650 is $180 on newegg, the 655K is $190. Looks like you have no idea what you are talking about. I was being generous when I said $25, turns out it is only $10. These aren't priced like extreme editions.

And overclocking with the BCLK give no real performance difference, Linus even showed this in his overclocking videos if you watched them. The difference is a couple hundred 3DMark points, and that is mainly due to the slightly higher memory clock.

  • @newtekie1 I happen to know a HELL of a lot what I am talking about my friend :)

1: Multiplier unlocking WILL NOT allow you to run a frequency over 1333mhz with your ram.

2:QPI Overclocking does not allow a massive benefit, in ALL circumstances, but more so in others. clock to clock for a unlocked/multiplier qpi the locked cpu will win due to it having a higher qpi (which i stated)

  • @MediaMocker 1 and 2) Watch Linus' own memory overclocking guide: It's v=55UkTAsDhY8 if you want to watch and learn something. Is that RAM running at 1600MHz without adjusting the BCLK? Holy crap it is! And look at the laughable results between 133 BCLK and 176 BCLK 0.008s on SuperPi and 158 3DMark points. Those are some hardcore performance differences, they'd really be noticeable in real world use, and probably have nothing to do with the faster RAM speeds, its all BCLK I'm sure.

  • @newtekie1

3: I said "they are more than 25$ over a non K processor equivalent (not to mention an even cheaper eq in max oc) " u state one shops price? wholesale difference is more than 25... maybe refer to ark.intel.com for official value $216.00 vs $176.00 what a retailer chooses is related to their own purchasing habits not official wholesale value per amount of units purchased which wouldnt you agree is a more accurate world wide value of a cpu...

  • @MediaMocker Even going by Intel's prices the difference is only $40, YOU SAID they were a "hell of a lot cheaper", $40 isn't a hell of a lot cheaper. I'll admit I pulled $25 out of my ass, and I overshot if you look at actually retail prices and under shot slightly if you look at MSRP, but I care what they actually sell for not what Intel says. Just admit you screwed up and didn't realize the K processors were actually reasonably priced and not outragously priced like the Extreme Editions.

  • @newtekie1 dude, wtf, i was quoting extreme editions from when i7 architecture first came out as the biggest exampe!? how much of a joke it was the 1000$ more extremes couldn't out bench BECAUSE of qpi, i work in the computer business i stock k items, i know what they sell for :) 50$ for me doesnt justify it, and yes 50$ here with a sub 200$ cpu is a hell of a lot cheaper... no screwing up you just have an outrageously big attitude bro...

  • @newtekie1

4: Everything I said is true in my original comment.

A locked multiplier cpu will beat a unlocked cpu clock to clock because of higher qpi. You will need to treat it like a locked processor to get a higher memory frequency from it or the additional perf bump from a higher qpi. super pi runs and most processes it relates to about 200 - 300 mhz at stock qpi frequency to match a cpu with higher qpi. with a quad core relying on more voltage and causing more heat this IS a benefit.

  • @MediaMocker No, nothing you said in the original comment was true. They aren't a hell of a lot cheaper, they are slightly cheaper. A $1000 would be a hell of a lot cheaper, like the difference between a standard processor and an Extreme Edition. You screwed up and assumed Extreme Edition prices, that is obvious. And as I pointed out, Linus himself has shown that increasing the BCLK at the same clock speed yeild no real performance improvement.

  • @newtekie1

Anyhow for me, 50$ for i5-k 70$ for i7-k is the difference wholesale au, for u 10$ new egg. U want to spend more on a cpu i can beat clock per clock and also run a higher memory frequency go ahead. Just dont be a jackass because u disagree and waste my time when I am right.

  • @MediaMocker You can't beat it clock for clock, Linus himself has shown that isn't true, so stop saying it unless you can show me evidence otherwise. You don't know what you are talking about here, so stop trying. And I have a K processor, but I only bought it because it was actually cheaper than the 870 when I bought it, both would hit 4GHz on any decent board, so there really isn't a point in the K unless you are doing extreme overclocking. But that wasn't the point.

  • @newtekie1 wait.... before you said linus said it is true, by a few hundred 3dmarks, and now you say no? i dont care who linus is, nor should i need to prove anything? you should know, if you know anything about the overclocking scene, super pi runs and benching higher qpi beats multi overclocking, no not by a lot :).... but enough to make it worth your while to do so. quit calling me a lier too, its fking annoying as hell causing nothing I have said is a lie, makes u sound like ur 10.

  • @newtekie1 tinyurl com / 2bm3nqk take a look my friend, around 300mhz higher qpi has more effect than 100mhz higher cpu clock (and is easy and makes less heat or requires less voltage!). i like how you call me a lier, no proof well u haven't proved different either accept quoted some guy... I have an i7 running highest possible bclock on a lower voltage at 4.1ghz and out benches it at stock multi at 4.4ghz!!! in all tests, anyway im done now. ur obviously not worth anymore time.

  • I used to work at Intel...i was a pipe fitter... i helped hook up the tools that used the acids to make these damn chips....sooo many people get hurt making these things...once a week at least 1 person was burned with some sort of acid...

  • 0:53 He's wearing a earing on his left ear. Now stop asking.

  • Dude are u gay? ..

  • "it can turbo up to whatever you want"

I think 1274569GHz would be good for my basic needs. Would the provided fan cool that effectively?

  • can i use ordinary fan of intel in i5 processor?

  • Are you gay?

Or do you have ear rings on both ears?

  • well the record now for the 655 is 7.3ghz..... gl with that though :)

  • I wish AMD would get rid of their useless fan.

  • what does over clocking do and would be a usefull thing to do

  • @Eemest overclocking is raising the frequency (speed) of the cpu at the cost of more heat and risk of fucking your computer up

  • can i overclock my Core i5 650?

  • @luimp3 of course =)

  • Im a first time builder. Can I just simply drop it in to a socket 1156 mobo without over clocking it and will still work? I dont understand all the technical stuff i just wanna drop it in.

  • @xbesteverx1 Yep. Overclocking is just an option you'll have if you ever want to.

  • @xbesteverx1 you can but you will save money with the core i5 650

  • It is ridiculous for its price and if you want something good go buy an i7 980x instead of an 875k or an i5 665k.

  • @vstxp

    wtf?!

  • @NatesStudio Hey,this is the the truth man!My Core 2 Quad is running at 3,8GHZ very easily, and i'm gonna overclock it further.I'm not a noob to go buy this! The true i7 is the 9xx and the 980X,atherwhise my pick is a Core 2 Quad. And always with the latest motherboards!

  • @vstxp one problem with that: the 980X is over a grand. the 875K and the 655K both cost less than 400 bucks, and with the right thermal solution these could probably easily go way faster than your core 2 quad.

  • @InternetSandman Don't think so,my friend has it and it's the same! It's just easier to overclock.

  • @InternetSandman And it is less than half money to buy a core 2 quad based PC,and if you know what you're doing you're more than fine for anything!

  • @vstxp Apparently you don't understand prices on each of those.

  • @goofeewalden1 Well sorry I should say i7 940 instead!You're right!

  • i5 655k vs i5 755?

  • @DSTDave i5 655k because of the unlocked overclocking.

  • @DSTDave Core 2 Quad Q9400 or Q9650,with an asus motherboard and if you can't have ddr3,get ocz reaper hpc pc-8500 and overclock to 1200/1333MHz.It will be a lot better than both of those! With the ram as fast as dual channel ddr3!Don't trust what you see from their cover. The 1156 platform is pure bullshit, and ocz reaper ddr2 is oddly better than the ddr3!

  • @vstxp actually the 1156 socket is pure ownage bro..you pay a shit less than the 1366...and with the 1156 if you get a corei5 you can have onboard video....witch is handy for the people who dont wana spend a shitload on a good system...onboard video isnt all that bad actually...a video card is definatley better..but some people dont wana pay a premium....think about that

  • Another thing, I am wondering why the Core i7 875K shows 8 cores instead of 4.

Will the Corei5 show 4 cores instead of 2?

  • @EMCHost task manager shows two times more cores than really are because of hyper threading. Hyper threading alows intel CPU's to be up to 30% faster than same CPU with HT off. HT is an technology which improves multitasking and it should be turned off if you use old operating system what does not suport HT. Sorry for my bad English.

  • What is hyper threading? Does it enable it to act as a quad core?

I'm creating a custom computer with Intel Core i5 655k

  • i need your help Im getting a new cpu but i dont no what processor to get for maximum performance and gameplay. it will have 8gb of ram

the : PHENOM II Quad core 956 3.4 GHz

    or the : AMD PHENOM II X6 SIX-CORE 1055T CPU 2.80GHz

wich one will be better performance and will run better with my 8gb of ram??? some one please help

  • @Kyle91122 depends, what are you planning to do? In terms of multi-threaded applications (i.e winrar, iTunes, video encoding) then the 1055T six core is obviously better, but the 965 black edition is better for gaming. Take your pick: Gaming or multi-threaded performance.

  • @teddy405139 well i want to play any game with the best performance as posable but apparently the six core burns our ur cpu faster

  • at 0:53 he says prahcessors instead of processors

  • turbo boost recommended up to 3.46ghz

  • Wow and I just got an i7 860 at microcenter last month although it was for 200 bucks :)

  • they can overclock to 9,001

  • @agalerex What does the scouter say about it's overclock?!

  • @agalerex Over 9000??!! No way man.

  • @toeffu OVER 9 THOUSAAAND! lol

  • yeah camera man was right you should have combined these vids

  • Awesome! Keep up the great work Linus!

  • whats h55? would they work on a p55 or do they use a different m/b

  • @imjjl h55 is the same thing as p55 but it supports the integrated video on i5 and i3 processors. you can stick the i3 and i5s in a p55 but you lose the integrated video, which isnt worth using anyways

  • @samwelaye i use a p7p55d e pro from asus with a 860 i7 you would it be compatible with the 875?

  • @imjjl It will compatible with the 875 man. Only an unlocked multiplier CPU so I think 95% it can run in any P55 motherboard

  • @MYMAnarchy thanks man

  • @imjjl No problem. Enjoy your gaming man

  • @imjjl yeah theres no reason why it wouldnt be...

  • @samwelaye Hehe, agree with u there.

  • are you actually stocking this at NCIX? it seems like you're doing unboxings of products that I can't actually find on your website yet, like the CM HAF X =(

  • Unlocked I5 and I7 was a awesome idea from Intel.

  • my i5 650 just cried

  • woah nice one :)

  • I like how the warranty stays even with a different heat sink! My Phenom II requires the stock heat sink in order to not void warranty,

  • The final hurrah fot the 1156 platform......

  • Shit, I read the title wrong, it looked like it said "Underclocked". I was like. wtf?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Linus, out of curiosity, is there a reason why you don't use any antistatic protection. I've noticed in your previous unboxings that you never seem to use anything. I'm taking an A+ class currently, and they always seem to stress the importance of using protection (no pun intended). So is it really not important as they say it is or am I missing something here?

  • @ub3r1337pwn4g3 I think its due to the humidity level.

  • @ub3r1337pwn4g3 good question. i think he doesn't use any since the parts haven't been used yet or maybe it's because he's not directly touching the components... although i'd like to know the reason as well.

  • @ub3r1337pwn4g3 He probably grounds himself by touching something before handling any components. And if I remember correctly from his other videos, he does his reviews in a room without any carpeting. Very little chance of gaining static charge, unless he walks with his legs tightly together.

  • is there gona be a video showing how much these can OC compared to the original non unlocked chips ?>>>>>>

  • IT WILL GO TO 3.46 GHz TURBO STOCK

  • @JamaicanulGL STOP SCREAMING

  • @ViZioNzXx LOL!

  • @ViZioNzXx my fucking caps was on! my mistake!

  • people have been getting the locked duallys over 5ghz with ease on water; i cant wait to see how far someones gonna go with an unlocked intel chip thats inexpensive enough for suicide runs under a cascade/dice/or liquid nitrogen.

  • I turbos up to Chuck Norris speed...

  • how much is it?

  • i love you Linu

    XD

    nice unboxing ;P

  • I don't think Linus likes Intel heatsinks. ;)

  • shit 5 again

  • 4th:(

  • 3rd

  • Yay!

  • first! :)
