  • "Girlie" car. Yeah whatever. This is a sweet driving machine.

  • Where do you go to sign up?

  • @PlazmaSpace - Check with the SCCA or NASA to find a local region online. Both organizations have strong programs.

  • great 2 laps boys, looks like you all get on well

  • 1:19

    LOL.

  • @ysflightman That turn is nearly impossible... believe me.

  • @carveriscool Oh yes, I know, I spent some time in my Datsun 280 at Road America. It's just 2 hours up the road from me. It's a slow corner and it comes up fast.

  • 0 dislikes oh yeah!! Thumbs up

  • nice video!

  • I wish people would race this clean in GT5...

  • @sufkiller

They have no incentive to since they won't be footing the bill for any damages or leaving the track on a stretcher.

  • @sufkiller as soon as you get past them they try to ram you in a tight corner right? i see them coming and spin out 180 just before they get me. but then what do they do? log out !!!! annoying

  • road america is one of my favorite tracks and thanks to forza 3 i know it pretty well =) is there an easy to understand list of allowed vs prohibited modifications for a spec miata other than the rules and regulations written by SCCA? I found those but they weren't exactly easy to understand... I'd love to turn mine into one if i ever get my truck running again =/

  • @Tmofosho - Check the Spec Miata website. It's a great resource for Spec Miata racers, and includes lots of discussion of what you can and can't do when building a car.

  • @WebbRacingdotcom cool, thanks!

  • I remember watching this race from the stands! :) First race I ever went to.

  • Are NB's allowed in Spec Miata? Or is it for NA's only?

  • I enjoyed that!!!!!

  • bunch of ladyboys racing in girls cars

  • mmm so many MX-5s

  • Looked like a nice, warm summer morning in Wisconsin. *sigh* 20 inches of snow and blowing. I hate winter!

  • intense

  • Tighten that mirror up. One less thing to distract you.

  • My dad raced there back in the 90's with his VW Rabbit.

  • i love it when races are this close.. makes everything fun gotta stay on your toes :D

  • fuckin great race :D

  • You are fantastic! I always love watching those miatas. Man what a car. They are sleepers alright!

  • I work for a team that races HP class in SCCA. Spec Miata is always a blast to watch. those guys are balls out, and you have some of the best drivers I've ever seen along with some of the worst, all in 2400LB 220 horsepower gokarts, basically. What could possibly be more exciting?

  • @vonjager - It is some of the closest racing I've done. Great fun!

  • Comment removed

  • @WebbRacingdotcom why was your racing line sometimes, all over the place...theres bits where you were doing great and then all of a sudden you mess up. Especially when people are on your ass

  • @vonjager Not anywhere near 220hp. :) More like 115. I question the legality of any SM car with over 120ish hp. It's all about smooth driving and maintaining speed. It's cool to see the old main entrance bridge and that the speedville bridge is still named snapon here.

  • @aceshighduceswild Oh ok, didn't realise they were that low. I guess the momentum effect makes them seem faster. The kink looks scary as hell!

  • I own a Pro7 RX-7 and run it in Group 4 with NASA. I believe this to be the predecessor to the Miata... point being they ARE a blast to drive at speed. The Miata has mega horsepower compared to the 96 h.p. of the 12a rotary engine. Can you say "momentum cars"? That's what these are and they are a blast. Oh yah, mine is for sale. $2000. Ton of spare parts and an enclosed trailer is also available. Dave (408) 476-5649 Cali. Or pro7dave22@yahoo.com

  • 1 19 what was that guy thinking?

  • @highspeeddrifto - He was thinking "Please let me get through this without hitting someone..."

  • @highspeeddrifto He actually did a pretty amazing job of avoiding a collision

  • @highspeeddrifto can you not tell he almost smacked the rear end of the car infront of him?

  • @thebear417 He was an idiot.. nothing to do with the car in front of him.

  • sweet

  • that looks like a ton of fun!!

  • that looks like cool fun, road america could reallu use a club circuit. anyone got a bull dozer?

  • dude asking the onboard cam guy to bumpdraft him at 4:46 and 5:44 was great! hahahah

such fun race with guys that respect eachother on track! ;)

    *****

  • spec miata racing would be an awesome way to get into competitive racing. looks like tons of fun.

  • lol 3:31!! strap on.

  • whats up at 1:18? was the track wet or something?

looks like he didnt have ABS

  • The track wasn't wet. It was simply a matter of ambition exceeding talent. I certainly hope he didn't have ABS, since I recall the rules forbid it.

  • @jgpwlcs36 hehehe

If you know how to brake, You'll stop faster w/o ABS.

But soccer moms slamming on the brakes and loosing traction on the highway doing 15 over the speed limit usually results in terror.

So they came up with ABS.

Meanwhile the people that do know how to brake properly can do just fine with out ABS, if not better.

  • Awesome. Great video.

Dude go a little squirrely at 1:24 didn't he?

I road race motorcycles and that's my passion but this looks real fun.

I just bought a '96 with Koni suspension, helium wheels, etc. Sounds like a good candidate for this doesn't it? hehe

  • Lucky he didn't take out any other cars! Would love to start road racing motorcycles myself. And your Miata sounds like a great start!

  • what region are u in? i'm set out in tx region with my ITS rx7

  • I race out of Cal Club here in SoCal. I have driven Hallet in a Spec Racer, way back in 1990! Fun track.

  • oh wow! I've raced Hallet only once, you should see it now, sadly the owner passed away, but they made a beautiful winner circle in his honer.

  • that looks like soooo much fun!!

  • that green miata is gorgeous!

  • @cheesepufff Won't be for long, this is wreck miata/spec pinata, after all :) Nice racing, Webb.

  • im not very familiar with scca just getting into and getting out of drag and street racing, can you tell me what wreck miata/spec pinata is? sorry for the noob question

  • Means if you gonna race, you gonna wreck, son! You see how many times people went off in the vid?

That happens in every racing, but scca spec miata rules allow lots of shenanigans and there's a lot of aggressive drivers in this class that will punt you in the wall while trying to secure 8th place or some shit. But that's what makes it fun and its still cheaper and more fun than other racing.

  • im familiar with the concept and style , just the way you chose your words kinda threw me off. I like scca, but it seems like the spread isn't very large? Time attack seems interesting also

  • hey i know this track! its a track on forza motorsport, its a pretty cool track. i hate that long sweeping corner though...

  • Awesome! I can't believe how close these cars get. I wish I could take my turbo Miata to these races :)

  • where do i sing up this is sweet

  • i like cheese :D

  • nice to see people racing roadster's/miata's around :) lot of people make fun of these cars until they get on a track.

  • LMAO 1:18

  • 6:52.. no cautions?

  • selling my 400hp civic. forget drag racing this is where it's at. im buying a miata :P

  • awesome vid....makes me wanna get back out on the track! you're soo smooth and consistent....very nice driving

  • Car is 1:18 Epic fail!

  • Great driving but why bump the yellow car in a straight line?:S

  • it's called "bump" drafting.

  • that's not bump drafting. that's a hit...

bump drafting occurs on longer straights not at corner exit.

  • great job committing to your line, and not jerking the steering wheel, a sign of a experience and great training!! all noobs that ate it exceeded the miatas limits, braking hard in turns or a sudden swerve will induce the mx5 into a spin, can't fight inertia + unbalanced weight transfer.. miatas don't require excessive braking, it turns like a giant go-kart, just be prepared to counter-steer a little bit when high speed weaving, or it's merry-go-round time lol 5 stars

  • That is a great video of some fantastic racing. Thanks for sharing it.

  • You are smooth and show that patience pays off. I thought you were never gonna stop when you were on his bumper going down into turn 5 ....damn you have brass balls!

  • 4:21 tap and wave and yellow car waves back hehe! I would be so down to do this but my NA is my daily driver :( Looks like so much fun! ^_^

  • i m 5'9 and the only problem i ever faced in my 1st gen miata is the fact that the windshield post hinders visibility to some extent ..other than that it fits like a glove (not like OJ's glove )

  • LOL @ him being a smartarse at the 4:00 mark.

  • not sure he was waving at the car wrecking, but more at the yellow car that was all over his ass...

  • shutup

  • man you guys are ruthless out there, ive never driven on the black lightning but ive been there.

  • Have a "99", won't part with it for anything. Funnest vehicle I have ever driven, even in stock form.

  • funny? its a great handleing car...

  • Funnest meaning "Great Fun" is what jba1995 means.

  • Ive never driven Road America but it looks really high speed. Seems like you were in 3-5 most of the time

did the red miata that kept getting between you and the yellow one have a few more HP. He seemed to pull pretty hard in the straights.

Nice "bump" draftin on the yellow car. Little "love taps" never hurt!

This vid helped me make up my mind. I'm selling my vette and buying a Miata. It looks like a blast

  • Visiting Road America was certainly a wake-up call for our team regarding HP. We ran across many cars that handled much better than ours down the straights! And yes, that red car was one of them.

Congrats on the decision to enjoy the Miata fun!

  • Ive heard there are guys out there running cheater motors and "special" suspension set ups. I hate to hear that stuff as it should just be about driver but it happens in every sport. It wont change until SCCA or NASA starts a "sealed" engine program like they do for the spec Ford racers.

I'm just looking to go out and have some fun for the next couple of seasons. I have a 13 year old son that will be in it with me in the next couple of years and this is something we can do together.

  • nicee

  • That type of Miata racing is why I bought my Spec Miata. Bravo
