Michael Moore, are you economically retarted?! The Chinese factories is NOT slavery. Sweatshops are not slavery. Market forces set their wages and people come running excitedly to work for those people. Without what people call "sweatshops" most of the people who work at them would be making many times less money than they do now.

What's the alternative to children working in a sweatshop? Children working in the field for less pay. That sounds more like slavery to me.

@Pooternackle First of all, when companies like Nike outsource their work, they don't actually own the factories that make their stuff. They contract with factories that do the work. Wages are set by supply and demand. Sure, McDonalds could pay their employees a million dollars a year, but then the price of their goods would rise significantly and they would be run out of business by competition.

The people that work in sweatshops are getting paid a lot more than they would otherwise.

Over the course of a couple hundred years, America has been able to obtain a lot of capital because of our capitalist structure. The more shit a country has, the better the quality of life it is for the people (materially). Everyone can't live like American's because theres just not enough resources.

The only problem with sweatshops is that many of them have unsafe working conditions. This is a social issue, not an economic one, however.

@Pooternackle The majority of sweatshop workers are teenagers: ages 15-20. Saying that they are forced to work in the sweatshops is like saying that a teenager in America is forced to work at a grocery store. They don't have to, but if they want money, they're going to have to get a job. That's how the world works. No one really likes working retail or manufacturing, but we do it because we want money. That argument doesn't really stand up.

If the Chinese people feel that they are being underpaid, it's their responsibility to make a difference. The American companies don't dictate the wages these factory workers are paid, because like I said, they don't own the factories but rather deal with contractors.

If everyone in the world worked for a minimum wage of 7.50, inflation would cause 7.50 to be the new $1. Nothing would change

This, in combination with the cheap labor costs (as you stated), would also benefit America's economy as well. Then again, it would probably result in illegal Chinese immigrants, but since they're not as close to America as Mexico, it really shouldn't be much of a problem. Also, you're a faggot.

The American people should not have too subsidize less efficient industries because all that does is hurt productivity. Furthermore, I find it even more ridiculous that he said that one way to combat the problem of higher prices is to raise peoples wages. When companies raise wages they raise prices. Michael Moore needs too learn some economics.
