moore's 100% right about china. this idea that china is somehow going to overtake us is ridiculous..china depends on america to buy shitty plastic toys..NOT the other way around
ahahhahaahah Michael Moore is so retarded. Henry ford realised he had to "create a middle class" so he could sell them cars? HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
So lemme get this straight. Henry ford used the money he made selling cars, to give to his employees so they could give it back to him in exchange for cars?!?!?!?! THAT'S NOT A PROFIT YOU FUCKING IDIOT. WHY WOULD HE CARE TO DO THAT? ARGHHHHH
Nike's are made in China but it doesn't make them cheaper. They're made for less than 1 dollar and sold for 100 dollars so it doesn't mean if something is made in China will be cheaper.
And yeah Moore says that when he was a kid only his dad worked and that was enough but today people are prone of buying tons of stuff they don't need which in the old days weren't the case.
moore is an idiot, china doesn't need the us, it has 1 billion people that can consume its own products if it lets wages appreciate and raises interest rates. also don't forget that china funds us consumption. the us is nothing but a fat pig.
@thefriendsociety If they were not worth it, they wouldn't make that kind of money without extortion. Please explain how they obtain said money from willing individuals in a free society WITHOUT being worth it.
@sybo59 they make that money cause idiots give it to them, i aint saying those other cocksuckers deserve but these dumbshits virtually nothing make more then somebody who actually has to work for living, that ain't fair and it ain't right.
@thefriendsociety I agree that their money comes largely from idiots; but willing idiots. So in the name of "fairness" (I take it liberty doesn't mean much to you), you'd have an arbitrary amount of this money be taken with the backing of physical force to be redistributed? Again, they are LITERALLY worth what they make, simply by nature of making it without using force. This is an objective fact, and not debatable (unless you are suggesting that they DO use force).
Michael Moore, are you economically retarted?! The Chinese factories is NOT slavery. Sweatshops are not slavery. Market forces set their wages and people come running excitedly to work for those people. Without what people call "sweatshops" most of the people who work at them would be making many times less money than they do now.
What's the alternative to children working in a sweatshop? Children working in the field for less pay. That sounds more like slavery to me.
@blacksabbathgnr098 yeah but i think what he is saying is that in those sweatshops, the company owners could and should pay the workers a lot more than they are getting paid but choose not to out of greed. but michael moore has a deep bias toward all upper class people which would lead me to think that he would rather see those unskilled worker bees getting paid as much as the owners
@Pooternackle First of all, when companies like Nike outsource their work, they don't actually own the factories that make their stuff. They contract with factories that do the work. Wages are set by supply and demand. Sure, McDonalds could pay their employees a million dollars a year, but then the price of their goods would rise significantly and they would be run out of business by competition.
The people that work in sweatshops are getting paid a lot more than they would otherwise.
@blacksabbathgnr098 the people working in sweatshops in china would kill to get paid a minimum wage. they are being paid FAR FAR FAR less than anyone getting a minimum wage in america would get. We used to have sweatshops in america even, they are there no longer. and by the way lol. you are the ONLY person ive ever encountered that is actually arguing in favor of sweat shops.. I mean shit, i consider myself a pretty hard line capitalist but NEVER would i consider going back to a sweatshop era
@Pooternackle That's totally fucking different. There are a billion people in China. Over the course of a couple hundred years, America has been able to obtain a lot of capital because of our capitalist structure. The more shit a country has, the better the quality of life it is for the people (materially). Everyone can't live like American's because theres just not enough resources.
Ask any real economist and they'll defend sweatshops.
The people literally jump at the opportunity to work.
@Pooternackle I mean just think about it, the people that work in sweatshops aren't forced to work there. They work there by choice because the alternative is working for less money doing something else
The only problem with sweatshops is that many of them have unsafe working conditions. This is a social issue, not an economic one, however.
This video will explain it better than I can:
youtube.com/watch?v=gi0KR4JxF3w
Watch it and I guarantee you will understand my point of view.
@blacksabbathgnr098 i know that if they didnt work at the sweat shops they would be most likely unemployed, so they are forced to work in them. just like in america/the american government, the chinese/chinese government could easily pass a law to get rid of the sweat shops and institute a minimum wage.. it doesnt look like thats going to happen any time soon- but it would be for the better of the chinese people. it would hurt the companies for maybe a year, but they'd adapt. just like american
@Pooternackle The majority of sweatshop workers are teenagers: ages 15-20. Saying that they are forced to work in the sweatshops is like saying that a teenager in America is forced to work at a grocery store. They don't have to, but if they want money, they're going to have to get a job. That's how the world works. No one really likes working retail or manufacturing, but we do it because we want money. That argument doesn't really stand up.
@Pooternackle Saying that the Chinese should raise minimum wage laws is an issue for China, not America. If the Chinese people feel that they are being underpaid, it's their responsibility to make a difference. The American companies don't dictate the wages these factory workers are paid, because like I said, they don't own the factories but rather deal with contractors.
If everyone in the world worked for a minimum wage of 7.50, inflation would cause 7.50 to be the new $1. Nothing would change
@blacksabbathgnr098 company owners adapted, so will the chinese (assuming a law like that is ever passed) And yeah its a social issue... but its a pretty big and important social issue that ties into the economies of capitalist countries
I'm very surprised to agree with Moore on a few of his points. My opinion on the China thing is different though. I say start up some companies in Mexico to make the cheap shit we buy from China. It'll cut Illegal immigration into the U.S. from Mexico, put some money in the Mexican economy, and cripple China's economy.
@EmoSceneKid654 One of the better ideas i've seen on this issue, this makes perfect sense. In addition, it would cut down on transportation costs, seeing how mexico is right below us. This, in combination with the cheap labor costs (as you stated), would also benefit America's economy as well. Then again, it would probably result in illegal Chinese immigrants, but since they're not as close to America as Mexico, it really shouldn't be much of a problem. Also, you're a faggot.
I'm no Michael Moore fan but he did have some legitimate points. However, his idea that we should start putting restrictions on China is ridiculous. The American people should not have too subsidize less efficient industries because all that does is hurt productivity. Furthermore, I find it even more ridiculous that he said that one way to combat the problem of higher prices is to raise peoples wages. When companies raise wages they raise prices. Michael Moore needs too learn some economics.
some of the people commenting are either extremely biased or extremely stupid. yes if we cut off trade with china prices will rise, but so will the rate of american employment because the dollars strength is based in its availability. the more spendable dollars in the pockets of more americans the more the american dollar is worth. what would happen is there would be less national and multi-national business. companies would be more regionally based, hiring and servicing their local communities.

fuck, O & A bombed on this one. Micheal Moore goes into a Union tirade and they just sit by and say nothing. Cut off trade with China, costs will sky rocket, people will their jobs, yet Moore says that people should Unionize and demand higher wages! How in the fuck does that create jobs, or create more wealth. You can't make people richer by simply paying them more money, they have to produce and provide cost effective products. Short term gains still lead to eventual losses aka General Motors.
Holy shit, what Mike is saying at 6:00 is pure God damn insanity, that will completely increase the speed at which the economy is falling... You can't make the labor more expensive, you're going to destroy the fucking dollar. You have to get the government out, take off regulations, change to another currency, then peg it to the gold standard. Save, open up factories, privatise education, produce again, then let the free market choose the right currency. Then you could abolish the government.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Michael Moore's rhetoric is such bullshit. The problem with him is about what he won't tell you. That's what the left/right paradigm gatekeepers do, they fuck with people's uneducated minds. None of this SHIT would have happened under a competitive currency, or some non-fake gold standard. How can you reward failure , when you just don't have the money to reward it? This whole wall street thing would never have existed without government involvement, end of story. But mike won't ever touch this.
competitive capitalism doenst keep the well being of nations in mind - slave labor exists because it yields greater production rates for less money. the reason "new shit" doesnt replace old tech is cause the "free market" motivates the development of products that are cheap to make, will soon be obsolete, and in some cases - like computers - require costly maintenance. the product has to perpetuate cyclical consumption or else it's seen as a market failure.
Stopping the sales of "slave" labor goods in America WOULD close trade between US and China.
-Plus it would make the topic of sweat shop goods a severely prevalent issue, thus making certain American companies (who make goods the same way) fall under the same category, which would find those companies guilty of the same act and they'd tank.
The loans Jimmy makes (the Community Reinvestment Act loans) did not default at a higher rate than the average loans given out by these corporate scumbags. Plus, what really made them worthless was the overleveraging and repackaging so that every "share" you bought was really 1/1000th of a 1/1000th of a bet on 1,000,000 loans or some shit that didn't mean anything.
It doesn't help that the scumbags in Congress are working for those same corporations, preventing oversight or enforcement.
I have news for you sir. We pretty much have universal healthcare already. The government just wants to take over the rest. Government is the reason why healthcare is so expensive. They're also the reason why the qualtiy of care has gone down. They inflated the costs through their involvement and are causing all these problem and yet you want more of it? Don't you think that maybe we should let the market handle it?
You make a lot of wild claims with nothing to back it up. I say the "free market" has been around for 400 years, and anything that the free market was able to solve, it already solved. Private corporations are designed to make money, not deliver services. When corporations get too large, they stop being accountable. They become "too big to prosecute". An insurance corporation by definition does nothing but skim money off the top and get in between a doctor and a patient. Reagan was a shithead.
Wow, there are a lot of liberals upset with what I said. They are all true statements though. You seem to go along with what the establishment tells you rather than doing the research yourselves. And your such stereotypes of liberals too. Corporations are evil and the government is a shining bastion of good. You're so typical I'm not sure if debating you is really worth it. Bare in mind you still haven't given me any concrete facts. Just a bunch of name calling.
Hey sniper6081, put down the Cheetos and do a little reading. I never said anything positive about the government. And you're the one who's spitting out cliches. You *are* aware that the Republicans are notorious for lockstep loyalty and ruthless partisanship, right, and not the liberals? Remember Reagan's 11th Commandment? Republicans have tried to turn "liberal" into a slur. They spread idiotic "death panel" rumors. They wear purple-heart band-aids and (like you) defend corporations like BFFs.
Don't you insult me by calling me a republican. I am a libertarian through and through. I don't consdier policies based on politcal parties. I consider what's logical, fair, and, most importantly, free. I am not defending corporations by saying I don't want government healthcare. I'm supporting the free market. I want healthcare reform because there is too much corporatism going on thanks to your bosom buddy, the government. I want them out so that doctors and patients can decide what's best.
He misses the specific culprit in all of this though. The federal reserve is the one that created all this easy credit and encouraged all these bad policies. That's where it began. If the market was truly free all of these entities would have been allowed to fail and those that produced new things would have thrived. I really wished he talked about that in his film, but no. As usual he only gets half the point.
What do you expect? Most of the people in the mainstream media (or as Glenn Beck now rightfully calls it, fringe media), only see things in single steps. A to B. 1 to 2. They don't get the big picture and that things that SEEM completely unrelated to a specific problem, that might have been implemented decades and in the case of the Fed, nearly a century before, might contribute to WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO OUR FUCKING COUNTRY!!!

They don't get the big picture and that things that SEEM completely unrelated to a specific problem, that might have been implemented decades and in the case of the Fed, nearly a century before, might contribute to WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO OUR FUCKING COUNTRY!!!
