Many many thanks for sharing this. It moved me to hunt the rare documentary down. Forever changed after watching the film I knew that this gem had to be shared with all. Mamady says he feels responsible for sharing his traditions when someone asks for it. I hope this keeps it alive. Check out my channel for a few more amazing clips and an extended clip from this scene as well. Love
I think around 1:50 that second rhythm starts... I wish this clip were longer and hadn't ended as it did, I think it is the same scene I'm thinking of.
My favorite part of the movie is a scene like this, with costumes, etc, but it's a different kind of rhythm... the rolling backbeat is constant... Keita does this insane thing with three heavy beats between each phrase... sort of like
Il montre une des meilleures parts de ce video le je dialogue entre le sagban du maître kougbanan et le seul de l'autre maître, mamady il est quelque chose increible veanlo avec atencion et descubriran quelque chose nouveau toujours
This is from a movie called "Djembefola" which is a documentary about Mamady making a trip back to the village where he was born and where he has not been since he left as a young boy. It is highly recommended for anyone who has ever thought about learning the history and technique of this ancient music. Watching Mamady shred will give you a new perspective on your own playing!
Love the interaction between Mamady and that fierce Sangban player towards the end of this clip. Inspired
