  • "Football" is a medieval term used to describe a group of games played on "foot", instead of horseback (like the nobles played). All the games we call football descend from those games. The term does not specifically mean the game we know today.

The term "soccer," btw, came from England - Oxford, actually. It's not culturally dishonorable to use that name as well.

  • y doesnt he use this sort of skilz in the premier league in premier leauge his shy he shouldnt be he would be an aswome player if he did but... still tight skilz

  • clint is a beast...hope he makes mexico look foolish too.

  • he did

  • dempsey beasted that guy. they should have shown a replay of the first move.

  • No question Dempsey is a different player, very good dribbler , he is playing in the EPL for a reason,

  • Dempsey 2 goals vs Chelsea today, show some respect!!!!!!!!

  • Now an update, The USA a year later since the last comment is now an awesome team the MLS is getting better and growing and al these players been bashed. Are the players that have grown and shined on both club and national level. So like clint said "Don't Tread On This!!"

  • I stick primarily to EPL, but I love watching Spanish and Dutch soccer. Germany and Italy, I could give or take really. I think the Mexican national team is good, really good maybe, but I'm with you on Mexican club soccer, same with South American clubs too. Ick.

  • he sure did screw the pooch yesterday. finally got a goal, but not before he blew a couple of golden opportunities. if that'd have been beasley or mcbride on the ball, we'd have won 6-1.

  • oooo did he snake it

  • Your thing says you are from NY. LOLOLOL You loser.

By the way the English are the ones who made the word Soccer. That's what the game was originally called.

  • "That's what the game was originally called."

No it isn't, soccer is an abbreviation of the word association used as a nickname for association football. Football is the real name and the right name, soccer is just a nickname.

  • exactly

  • @Geraldo1101 soccer was a nickname to tell the difference between rugby and association football. so it kinda was the first name because if you said football you weren't specific enough. american football took it's name from rugby which is understandable giving the similarities... so go fuck yourself

  • @Chancheros As it seems Foot-ball is the international name/word for the game/sport where you use your FEET. Why should I go fuck myself? In my language it's called fodbold which means football.

  • Saw Ching play over the weekend. Not impressed, but then he's on a team full of mediocre players.

Any US player that takes his career seriously needs to be in Europe, bottom line. No one's gonna get any better playing MLS. It's a sad truth.

  • Ching is not like Dempsey or Landon, he is just great at finishing especially when setting up a play. You need those type of players, Italy as a team is good at finishing.

  • i disagree, you can get better playing in any league as long as your playing but you should be playing in a league that your skill level is at.

  • Look at Beasley, McBride, Bocanegra, Spector, Dempsey... They were good, but now that they've been playing overseas, they're great. I watch La Liga, Primera, EPL, Eredivisie and Bundesliga. I TRY to watch MLS. I genuinely WANT to watch it. But everytime I put a game on, I end up changing the channel after 5 minutes because it's so horrible. No possesion, constant fouling/flopping. Long ball after long ball, with no midfield. It's appalling.

  • well beasley and boca were young when they left so they had time to grow as players. dempsey hasnt improved at all in europe he may have even have regressed alittle but thats just till he adjusts and mcbride is alot bigger than he used to be just look at pictures from world cup 2002 till now and you'll see a huge diffrence. his new size gives him an advantage.

  • to me its the opposite i love watching mls and usa soccer but the only league i can stand to watch overseas is the epl. i try to even watch mexican soccer and i just cant for very long, i donr really like the way they play.

  • MLS just doesn't flow well enough for me, but I do like watching the US National team, especially since Bradley took over. Great to see so many young, new faces. Coulda done without Razov in that China match.

  • well you usually see new faces after a world cup exspecally after the players the usa lost, all the new faces deserved the call up as well. i hate it when coaches just call em up just because their young, make them earn it ya know??

razov was only called up because chivas was the only mls club that wasnt playing that week. i wouldnt mind razov at copa america though, hes a good player.

  • razov has had a good career in MLS, but looking at his stats on a national level, I'd pick mcbride, johnson, twellman, ching, donovan or maybe even cooper over him. though, if we wanna talk about underachieving players with lots of natural talent, donovan takes the cake...

$100 says dempsey scores on a beasley assist in the next 10 min

  • I MEANT to say beasley would score off Dempsey... seriously.

  • honestly i dont buy into the whole only good at the club level thing, i didnt really follow soccer much backt than but there must of been some reason(he was out of form at the time, he had no cemistry with his forward parter or the usa midfield gave him no service. i probably would take all those players over him except cooper(not yet anyways) but all those are great players as well in mls.

  • mls is to slow for me to watch. it's not horrid but i'm used to watching epl. when i moved to the states i was kind of surprised by how good the league actually is. needs work though

    cheers

  • I just want to see him and Brian Ching, a great finisher, play together for USA.

  • Ching? Really?

    You're joking, right?

  • Ching is one the best scorers in the MLS and not mention his team won the MLS cup bc of him.

  • Ching is amazingly over-rated...

  • Not really

  • why do you say that?? well twellman is underated.....just thought id point that out

  • i agree! the best ankle breaker too!

  • he is the BEST american soccer player, nuff said!

  • I wouldn't say that, personally I think Beasley, Brian McBride, Reyna, and Landon Donovan are all better.
