  • I'm terribly sorry. This is terrible to many inconsistent vibratos who are trying to show off thinking that they are Sara Brightman or something tone it down a bit ladies. Where are the dynamics in this? This piece does not really call for many of them so emphasis should be put where they are called for.

  • @ferka07 Settle down. Composer Eric Whitacre created the arrangement specifically for GMCLA, and then rehearsed it with us for its premiere. He has appeared on our stage many times. Who are you to second-guess the intentions of the composer? I suggest: don't judge the dynamics of any audio on YouTube. This technology is a faint representation of what live audiences see when they attend a GMCLA concert.

  • Re: "since they claim Christians are so oppresive, discriminatory, and hateful towards the glbt community" and why sing the piece? For the same reason that a Jewish orchestra plays Wagner perhaps.....music (and art/literature) can be/should sometimes be divorced from the questionable views of its composer/author and reclaimed. Lord knows any reference to sacred texts are founded on mumbo-jumbo. Devout atheists adore religiously inspired music and art too....

  • Interesting...seems like the tenors could've been louder in places and/or the basses quieter, and you all hit the accents like no other. Very good though!

  • Congratulations! A real lesson of an ellegant singing.

  • Simply beautiful. Touched my heart to make me cry of emotion.

Love gay choruses. Loved your sound.

    Best,

  • @ tiernan87, i think everyone can appreciate good choral music :)

  • Oh, my! My last concert as a singer (now a music librarian). White hair and beard in the middle. Too old to memorize everything.

  • O.O Stunning.

  • sounds very good. Nice job

  • I did this song with my Chamber choir n it sounded excellent like this did!

  • Amazing, gentlemen.

  • This is stunning weldone :)

  • i find it interesting that the "gay men's chorus" would want to sing a song about the birth of Christ, since they claim Christians are so oppresive, discriminatory, and hateful towards the glbt community.

  • Jesus was a Jew who admonished his followers to "judge not, lest ye be judged."

The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles is comprised of magnificent singers from all faiths, including some non-believers. We celebrate beautiful music from many cultures and languages, rising above the petty judgments of those who choose to demean us. Will you?

  • Many gay men are self-defined Christians. Gay people do not speak hate toward any religion any more than any other group of people.

What many people (gay or not) take issue with are Christians who preach hatred and discrimination instead of love and tolerance. Read the story of Jesus in the Bible... which message do you think he would approve of...

  • @tiernan87

    Gay Christians? Kids these days...

  • Beautiful and absolutely amazing

  • Absolutely stunning! Not only is it amazing to listen to, but a stunning display as well. I'm in the my Universities Men's Chorus and we're singin' this. I must say that it's an amaizing piece to be able to sing.

  • this was an excellent performance!!!!

but i still like the band arrangement better

  • I love Eric Whitacre's music. This chorus did an extraordinary job performing this piece! Keep up the good work.

  • So beautiful...

  • Wow this is AMAZING :D

question though, and I don't mean to sound stupid or ignorant, but why is ti called the Gay Men's Chorus? Is it the location, or the sexual orientation, or what?

  • The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles was formed in 1979 in response to hate, soon after San Francisco City Councilmember Harvey Milk was shot solely because of his gay orientation. Based on the number of vile messages deleted from this thread, I assure you that hate is very much alive today. Until gay people everywhere are granted the same freedoms guaranteed in the US Constitution, we will not be silenced. We must sing. There is no shame in the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.

  • Beautiful response. And what right do we as people have, anyway, to say what is wrong and what is right? Unless of course, we are the gods of this place, and if that is the case, then it is quite sad.

  • Extraordinary! Spectacular job!

  • this piece always makes me well up a little, but hearing it arranged for only male voices was a new experience. It gives the second half of the piece some added muscle that took the song somewhere new. Well done everyone!

  • whooooo...i loved that better than the traditional choir version

  • Wow. This is really impressive. Wow.

  • OMG!! This is one of the best performances I've ever heard! Very very good!

  • Wonderful choir sound, amazing work!

  • God, I miss you guys SO MUCH already--glad to have this among many wonderful memories of you--- XOXOXOXO much love to you all!!

  • I love Whitacre and I love Lux, but I never have heard it sung by an all male chorus, and it is rather impressive, not gonna lie. Well done guys.

I thought that not have the sopranos and altos would take a way from this song but it really didn't.

    Again, well done guys.

  • GMCLA's Artistic Director Dr. Bruce Mayhall was a college professor of composer Eric Whitacre. Therefore, GMCLA was blessed with Whitacre's direct involvement for this performance, the first time Lux Aurumque was performed by all-male voices. Whitacre loved it!

  • Ahhh, my brothers in LA! I weep when I see you in person and now I weep when I see this clip! The San Diego Men's Chorus is singing this piece in our upcoming holiday show. I'll be thinking of your beautiful sound and lights when we perform.

  • Amazing!

  • Absolutely beautiful.
