it is true it only worked for that one day but the reason that was is because the amount of liquid that was supressed into the stone on that day was sufficient considering the amount of liquid that had evaproated from the bonds in the stone and that's why it wont happen again for a long time. For example in India when they make houses all the bricks are drenched in water so that the all the bonds in the brick absorb the water and do not erode as easily under intense heat conditions.
