  • Can somebody tell me why 1:42 onwards reminds me of the disney version of Peter Pan and Captain Hook? The theme isn't on the movie, and i'm sure i know it from somewhere.

  • Serious Business!!!

  • hehe

  • every time i hear this it reminds of stupid Mario brothers the part where wario kills the darkness

  • Possibly the only reason to ever watch Caligula is for this song.

  • The Smiths used to come on stage to this quite a lot.

  • Genius

  • 1:39 starts the grandeur...

  • Quite like this song actually !! xx :P lol a bit loud at the start though xx :P

  • Chills. Every time.

  • BEST SCORE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Emerson Lake and Palmer did a rock version of this under the title 'Romeo and Juliet'. also worth checking out.

  • I have definitely heard this in a Pixar short?

  • okay... i know this song as the Intro to Muse's HAARP concert....

  • Damn the apprentice for turning this into a theme tune. it is always the music that the smiths came on stage to, to me.

  • I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God.

  • Kenny Vs. Spenny anyone????

  • the apprentice (UK) & Kenny Vs. Spenny!

  • This song should be played when chuck norris is having a shit?

  • Thumbs up if The Smiths brought u here.

  • My fave peice of classical music! Metal fan too, anyone else?

  • @FretNinja i am learning the piece right now, i just love it!

  • @FretNinja

Yes! My favorite piece as well. Big-time metalhead here.

  • I imagine this music during a trailer about a horror type MMORP. Burning villages, screaming people, foul beasts marching in the night. A MMO thats very dark and gritty. You actually getting scared when doing some kind of creepy dungeon. That would be awesome.

  • @JoramJozef more one set in the Soviet Union, or on the Aprentice :D

  • Yes...took me a while to chase the song down, but I knew I had heard it.

  • The simpsons

    anyone

  • @r3boxx Yes I used that iphone app that tells you the name. I did it while watching the simpsons last sunday.

  • thumbs up if you are here because of Aperture Science

  • i remember this song from the brothers grimm movie

  • Aperture Science sent me... and now nothing will ever be the same...

  • @mrwho995 Ever heard of beethoven? Or any band piece EVER made? You know, the art of performing using only instruments? It's called a symphony. You are missing out bro.

  • Erm... Aperture where have you sent me?! This is used to counqer small villages, not science!

  • People, people, people. This isn't a song. A song has words.

  • @mrwho995 Ever heard of instrumental songs?

  • @SneakyOstrich

Take a look at the actual definitions:

"A short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung"

    Singing or vocal music"

"A musical composition suggestive of a song"

"In music, a song is a composition for voice or voices, performed by singing."

Instrumental songs are a technically incorrect phrase. They don't use the correct definition of a song.

  • @mrwho995 Yes its wrong. But you can say song anyhow. You cant expect people to use english 100% correct. The meanings of song and for example tune are about the same.

  • @SneakyOstrich

Yeah I know that it's a tiny error but it's one that really annoys me. It probably doesn't surprise you to know that I am a grammar nazi.

  • This song sounds like it should have been in the video game Shadow of the Colossus.

  • 1:36 ,anyone else feel like stomping on peasents

  • @THIRDSHOCKARMY They play this at every Bilderberg Group meeting. You know they want to kill us useless eaters.

  • @cooptae21 ...............interesting

  • @ReadCommentBelow good man, thanks for that

  • Ahhh reminds me of good ol high school orchestra. :)

  • played this in a concert yesterday, its so much fun!! :P x

  • Damn you Unfortunate Lamia

  • @Kibitou4Life oh you

  • I aspire to play this on the violin..

  • most badass song ever 1:37

  • Comment removed

  • 1:36 sounds like something off of Harry Potter, Does any one know what I'm talking about? If you know which movie it is please tell me! I'm dying to try and figure it out here.

  • @AnDream109 It almost sounds like the umbridge montage, but it's not in any Harry Potter movie, no.

  • @AnDream109 its the song they always use in the apprentice!

  • Muse *_*

  • @ridgedrunk Muse? What song? :D It sounds sooo familiar! XD (I guess I also know it from a commercial!)

  • @DeSmurfen125 this masterpiece was used as intro for the beautiful HAARP concert in Wembley 2007

  • @ridgedrunk Oh, That's awesome! :D maybe I know it from them! XD but I've never went to a concert of them. Maybe heared it on tv! XD

  • @DeSmurfen125 I watched them in San Siro 2010!!!!!! It was the best day of my life! IT was.....unreal!

  • @ridgedrunk I went once to Coldplay. and one year later at the exact time and place Muse played there! I watched on TV that day! XD

  • @DeSmurfen125 wooow cooool ;)

  • SANXION!!!!!!!!

  • 重厚でどことなく怪しい雰囲気が気に入ってるんだけど、CMに使われたせいでなんだか一気に安っぽくなってしまって、イヤだぁ。。。

  • Epic incarnate.

  • I knew there'd be at least one cunt mentioning The Apprentice. That piece-of-crap facetime for self-aggrandising sociopaths has almost ruined this piece of music.

  • APPRENTICE!!!!!!!

  • I can't tell if he is wearing glasses or going swimming based on the picture lol

  • 9 people on Youtube are philistines...

  • 1:39 i conquer contries to this part lol

  • 魔改造のマーチ

  • I had my earphones on full volume at the start. I thought a 747 was flying 10 metres above my head . .

  • 9 People are deaf

  • Ciao

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • thumbs up if the guy who commented on lemon demon brought u here

  • @SuberuberX dude, what?

  • @SuberuberX yeah, I'm guessing you're the only one. Way to troll for thumbs up.

  • I really like this. It's so powerfull. So mighty.

  • Nicht sehr gut.

  • @jumbodavejimbo Trotzdem gut genug?

  • it's too bad shakespeare didn't live long enough to hear this piece.

  • I'm reading Romeo and Juliet in my World Lit. class :D

  • I heard this on a WBZ radio ad promoting the Patriots in the NFL playoffs sometime in the mid-90s.

  • Used on the game 'Sanxion' on the Commodore 64 --- love it!!

  • though i really really really like this piece, i also like Emerson Lake And Palmer's rendition of it.

  • Not that it's note-for-note, but Elliot Goldenthal relied heavily on this for scoring the Harvey Dent/Two-Face theme in "Batman Forever". Goldenthal threw in a lot of clownish percussion and other musical effects, but this is the inspiration.

  • Genius!

  • I first heard this magnificent song from that "porn" movie called "Caligula".Since that day I can't stop listening this piece.

  • @NiKo55BeLiC

I saw that film for the first time a few days ago, and can't stop listening either. I'm still undecided as to whether the 'porn' had any artistic merit.

  • 3:21 is my absolute favorite part <3

  • does any one else like the song "only ash remains" by necrophagist? not that it has anything to do with this song

  • @ltdex400guitarist oh not not at all . i dont even know why you would think af necrophagist . its not like they played a part of this song at the end of "only ash remains" but with a bad ass metal twist. lol

  • check out Gerdie's Gerbers while listening to this music. be sure to read the first paragraph.

  • 2:56 Oh my God.

  • NICE

  • civ 5 catherines war theme is a neat rendition of this piece.

  • @THIRDSHOCKARMY I KNOW ITS EPIC :D

  • @ReadCommentBelow how can u listen this piece without the beginning.. it's like to read dante's divine comedy without the inferno.. :'(

  • this actually gives me shivers...

  • i love the start

  • Unfortunately, I disagree. When one thinks of the music industry, the focus is to entertain, and not to express. I am not saying that this is for better or worse, but a composition or song with an abstract purpose or expression is much less common when profit is a major consideration.

  • Who dislikes this, seriously? Who can listen to this piece and think, "Aw, BOO! Thumbs Down, Way Down!"?

  • kenny vs spenny!

  • 魔改造のマーチ

  • 魔改造のマーチ

  • anyone else thinking 1:36 the apprentice

  • @draculon5 No, I'm actually thinking Blood Axis - Reign I Forever.

  • Why the debate on relevancy? If you write a good song it's played for years, a great song for decades and a masterpiece for centuries. That said, some of the classical was damn boring and people put significance on it just because it's old or the artist had some other good work.

  • VIVA CALIGULA!!!!!

  • Fucking mindblowing! Incredible

  • Musique si envoûtante

  • All music has something to offer, whether it be classical, jazz, pop, rock, metal, or rap, because every kind of music is ultimately derived from the common goal of all artists: communication and self-expression. I happen to find classical music beautiful because of its emotional complexities and subtleties, but I also like jazz for its spontaneity and honesty, and metal for its strength and raw emotion. What you like is a matter of personal taste, and not really about the music itself.

  • @Chamiletchisonai Well said!

  • @Chamiletchisonai - Not all music is communication and self expression. Thats where the bad music comes in, when they just do it for the money.

  • @Chamiletchisonai Bravo. You, sir, deserve a cookie.

  • @Chamiletchisonai The rest of us appreciate comments like yours.

  • @Chamiletchisonai well put

  • @Chamiletchisonai all good answers,I think the same way.

  • @Chamiletchisonai Well, its often about whats new to. What people are "taught" to like. I claim I choose music for how good it sounds. But maybe you choose music for what it feels like. Its seems this only attracts old or "intelligent" people.

  • @Chamiletchisonai you forgot about electronic music

  • @dnkmerman I stand corrected.

  • This isnt obsolete, nor isnt it profitable. This does sell. When you have classical musicians making 25,000 dollars a concert (thats chump change for the people putting on the concert) and classical musicians making a living off of producing CDs (like the cellist Zuill Baily or the violinist Sarah Chang) of classical works, there is no way in hell that you can say its not profitable.

  • first heard in the caligula trailer.

  • Kei mooi!

  • An interesting performance, very rough round the edges and rather brutal, which I assume is intentional.

  • Good, nice.

  • What recording is this?

  • my favourite classical besides "waltz of the flowers"

  • This is one of my most cherished, most favorite classical pieces. The raw power - the force - the rage followed by the deceptive calm in the middle - great stuff. Dramatic. I sometimes think of Prokofiev and this particular piece "Damn, who the hell pissed him off the day he wrote this?"

  • Triumphantly Maniacal.

  • Where the hell did they use this song in?

Was it Spiderman or Batman or another movie.. I can't remember -_-"

  • @FooMiss

I first heard this piece in the Bob Guccione produced "Caligula" starring Malcolm McDowell and Helen Miren.

  • @FooMiss It was in Hook with Robin Williams when Captain Hook walks off his boat and the crew chants 'Hook, Hook, Hook, Hook....'

  • @FooMiss Hook, the peter Pan movie with Robin Williams, when Captain HOok walks off his boat and the crew is chanting "Hook, Hook, Hook..."

  • With music like this, we don't need a ballet. I think the piece is masterful by itself.

Prokofiev may have thought of the ballet as an afterthought, now wouldn't that be funny?

  • 1:37

    win

  • @ArchingRaptor Indeed, just epic.

  • WilD WINDDDDDDDDD BLOWING ..............!!!! AND THE STORM IN THE SOUL COMES ALONG BRINGING THE ENTRANCE TO A DEEEEP INSPIRATION .....

  • Lord Sugar has just been fired.

  • 5:50 the ending to only ash remains by necrophagist

  • your fired !!!

  • god i cant get enough of this

i dont know the music terms very well but that really quick succession of notes on the violin always gets me

just after 1:53 and again at 2:08

  • @quakeroats0316 Just a group of sixteenth notes, and yes, they're nice. :D

  • makes me think about events and scenes going on, the time is passing by and war is coming, this theme is one of the best epic things i have ever heard

  • i heard this fresh ass muthafuckin beat at a concert, dem niggas were wilin' on dem violins

  • BAD ASS SONG!!!!!!

  • I had this melody ringing in my head for the past ten years until I found this video. Thank you uploader for lifting the curse.

  • @Conkyworm how did you find it?

  • @Conkyworm how did you find it? I mean how did you search for it?

  • It ends too quick...

  • This is an amazing work. This playing is a bit fast but not distractingly so. Some conductors just frantically rush this piece because it's so fun to play. Rushing can take away some of the menace and raw intimidation of this work, but this doesn't. Amazing piece, and very well presented. (I love when the original theme comes sneaking back in with the bassoon part. So cool!)

  • eargasm?

  • I know my user name says "Marilyn Manson" but actually I do love this type of music. Beethoven, Mozart. All of the classics. This song is amazing.

  • If only all the world had one neck....

  • Does someone just ever think of blood going and leaving our heart ?

  • Love this. Has intensity unknown to the ears of most of the population.

  • LOVE this

  • I doubt I would've come across this amazing piece if Deep Purple hadn't played it at the beginning of their 2010 shows on tour... Agree and love all the sentiments below. A haunting tune - similar in it's power to something like Hall of the Mountain King...

  • @DeeperPhantom Absolutely awesome, loved it at the DP concert, I heard it in their concert in Newcastle, Australia and was searching all over for the name of the song :) FINALLY found it after several frustrating weeks of online searching lol

  • i agree with all these comments, but all i can think of is alan sugar and the apprentice.

  • This always reminds me of Kenny vs Spenny.

  • Whom I hear this musik, I always think everytime on nazis LOL

  • This is one of most haunting classical pieces I can think of. You can hear the spitefulness, the lies, the deceit and petty squabbling of the families Montague and Capulet. Interrupted briefly by the soft, warm budding love of Romeo and Juliet. Sometimes I have a hard time "hearing" whats going on in an Opera or a Ballet. But in this piece, it's so clear.

  • @lednev such an excellent interpretation of this song! *claps* classical music is such a wonderful form of art. :)

  • This music would sooth the mind of a madman.

    Brilliant.

  • 3:19 and onward: Magic.

  • it's so beautiful from 1:39 till the end

  • 1:39 and forward; My favorite part. I can't even tell how beautiful and eerie I find this piece. It gives me goosebumps. Fantastic.

  • So evil----

  • 1:40 - 3:19 "Sir Alan Sugar is looking for a new apprentice..."

  • good music

  • i don't like this.....I LOVE THIS!

  • would be great to know which orchestra and who the conductor for this particular version is.

  • 1:41 to 3:19 just makes me think of some asshole walking down a city street causing all sorts of ruckus and turmoil among the nice city folk.

  • @FourOp Nazis march into Paris....

  • I love rock and metal. BUT, some classical music rocks alot harder!

  • shut up and listen
