Can somebody tell me why 1:42 onwards reminds me of the disney version of Peter Pan and Captain Hook? The theme isn't on the movie, and i'm sure i know it from somewhere.
I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God.
I imagine this music during a trailer about a horror type MMORP. Burning villages, screaming people, foul beasts marching in the night. A MMO thats very dark and gritty. You actually getting scared when doing some kind of creepy dungeon. That would be awesome.
@mrwho995 Ever heard of beethoven? Or any band piece EVER made? You know, the art of performing using only instruments? It's called a symphony. You are missing out bro.
@mrwho995 Yes its wrong. But you can say song anyhow. You cant expect people to use english 100% correct. The meanings of song and for example tune are about the same.
1:36 sounds like something off of Harry Potter, Does any one know what I'm talking about? If you know which movie it is please tell me! I'm dying to try and figure it out here.
I knew there'd be at least one cunt mentioning The Apprentice. That piece-of-crap facetime for self-aggrandising sociopaths has almost ruined this piece of music.
Not that it's note-for-note, but Elliot Goldenthal relied heavily on this for scoring the Harvey Dent/Two-Face theme in "Batman Forever". Goldenthal threw in a lot of clownish percussion and other musical effects, but this is the inspiration.
I saw that film for the first time a few days ago, and can't stop listening either. I'm still undecided as to whether the 'porn' had any artistic merit.
@ltdex400guitarist oh not not at all . i dont even know why you would think af necrophagist . its not like they played a part of this song at the end of "only ash remains" but with a bad ass metal twist. lol
Unfortunately, I disagree. When one thinks of the music industry, the focus is to entertain, and not to express. I am not saying that this is for better or worse, but a composition or song with an abstract purpose or expression is much less common when profit is a major consideration.
Why the debate on relevancy? If you write a good song it's played for years, a great song for decades and a masterpiece for centuries. That said, some of the classical was damn boring and people put significance on it just because it's old or the artist had some other good work.
All music has something to offer, whether it be classical, jazz, pop, rock, metal, or rap, because every kind of music is ultimately derived from the common goal of all artists: communication and self-expression. I happen to find classical music beautiful because of its emotional complexities and subtleties, but I also like jazz for its spontaneity and honesty, and metal for its strength and raw emotion. What you like is a matter of personal taste, and not really about the music itself.
@Chamiletchisonai Well, its often about whats new to. What people are "taught" to like. I claim I choose music for how good it sounds. But maybe you choose music for what it feels like. Its seems this only attracts old or "intelligent" people.
This isnt obsolete, nor isnt it profitable. This does sell. When you have classical musicians making 25,000 dollars a concert (thats chump change for the people putting on the concert) and classical musicians making a living off of producing CDs (like the cellist Zuill Baily or the violinist Sarah Chang) of classical works, there is no way in hell that you can say its not profitable.
This is one of my most cherished, most favorite classical pieces. The raw power - the force - the rage followed by the deceptive calm in the middle - great stuff. Dramatic. I sometimes think of Prokofiev and this particular piece "Damn, who the hell pissed him off the day he wrote this?"
makes me think about events and scenes going on, the time is passing by and war is coming, this theme is one of the best epic things i have ever heard
This is an amazing work. This playing is a bit fast but not distractingly so. Some conductors just frantically rush this piece because it's so fun to play. Rushing can take away some of the menace and raw intimidation of this work, but this doesn't. Amazing piece, and very well presented. (I love when the original theme comes sneaking back in with the bassoon part. So cool!)
I doubt I would've come across this amazing piece if Deep Purple hadn't played it at the beginning of their 2010 shows on tour... Agree and love all the sentiments below. A haunting tune - similar in it's power to something like Hall of the Mountain King...
@DeeperPhantom Absolutely awesome, loved it at the DP concert, I heard it in their concert in Newcastle, Australia and was searching all over for the name of the song :) FINALLY found it after several frustrating weeks of online searching lol
This is one of most haunting classical pieces I can think of. You can hear the spitefulness, the lies, the deceit and petty squabbling of the families Montague and Capulet. Interrupted briefly by the soft, warm budding love of Romeo and Juliet. Sometimes I have a hard time "hearing" whats going on in an Opera or a Ballet. But in this piece, it's so clear.

@mrwho995 Ever heard of instrumental songs?
SneakyOstrich 4 months ago
@SneakyOstrich
Take a look at the actual definitions:
"A short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung"
Singing or vocal music"
"A musical composition suggestive of a song"
"In music, a song is a composition for voice or voices, performed by singing."
Instrumental songs are a technically incorrect phrase. They don't use the correct definition of a song.
mrwho995 4 months ago
@mrwho995 Yes its wrong. But you can say song anyhow. You cant expect people to use english 100% correct. The meanings of song and for example tune are about the same.
