Probably my all-time favorite performance of this song...and this is my favorite song of all time, by any band, performer, composer, singer, etc., and it will always be.
I remember being 13 staying up way past my bed time, to see my favorite band of all time...to see this performance...and what an amazing performance it was.
Matt sharp's sound at 52 sounds like a little person being tickled. This performance gives me chills, i like how they all can play really good and just fit together so well.
We should all join together n become this BIG GIANTIC voice n help elect RON PAUL for PRESIDENT. To experience another USA renaissance of awesome music, inovations. originality success and prosperity.
@Mr4stringman He always used a fender jazz, but the headstock looks like it came off a 50's precision. Although the neck seems too thin to be a p, so i'm not too sure.
great song. they're playing the right notes and everything.. but the tone of every single instrument sounds terrible. i hope letterman fired that guy.
the bassist got kicked out of this band because he rocked out too hard on this show and took attention away from Rivers. Fun fact. This bassist rules so fucking hard too, look how he hits the backup vocals while also performing an off-time bassline, like right at the start of the track. I mean fucking Rivers, so vain, look how retarded his dumb eyes look because he didnt wear glasses because he wanted to look cool on tv. RANT DONE
@Raiderfn31 Don't know why you'd think that. The multitracks for this performance are most surely gone and have been for quite some time, so fixing up the vocals would be impossible. Letterman's live performances are simply aired for the most part, not kept and tampered around with.
Also, Rivers's voice cracks, something that hardly ever happens. I'm sure that if this was edited, they'd definitely edit that part out.
@Raiderfn31 What are you talking about? Where do you hear this voice over? Your statement doesn't even make any sense. This performance is about as raw as any I've ever heard EVER anywhere!
I feel that Weezer gets a lot of inaccurate "they're nerds" comments when, in actuality, they were embodying "indie rock" before it reached the masses to the annoying extent that it has in present day. I'm not saying that they're not nerds, but I feel like not nearly enough people consider the fact that they were a part of something else, not simply some nerds who struck gold. Basically, they were an "indie band" that found some serious mainstream success.
I could never figure out Weezer...if I liked them or not. Buddy Holly was great...this is probably my favorite song of their's. There is no doubt they have talent. But if I hear "Island in the Sun" ever again, I just might go postal. Most bands I either like or don't...Weezer is both.
Ahh. Back when Rivers still had the infamous 'blue' guitar, Brian looked like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory, Pat still actually played drums and Matt Sharp was jumping around like a mad man. Weezer's peak.
For anyone that's wondering, the bassist, Matt Sharp, was jumping around more than he usually does on purpose to keep attention away from Rivers, since he had a leg brace. It made Rivers more comfortable.
@Ultimat3IronM4n I feel his pain. People in my area who go to punk shows expect an energetic performance during "reunion" shows with my band from when I was 17-22, that's how we were then and that's how we are now. I recently played with a herniated disk. It made me feel old.
Ah, makes sense I was thinking .."Man them are some big pants!" haha. Doesn't matter though. Weezer rocks enough for Rivers to be able to just stand there.
@BOOOOOMshakalakalaka i play guitar but i might know the answer. Heavy strings. alot of pumk bands like the misfits use heavy strings so they can beat the shit of the bass without affecting
