  • GW2 becomes WCG = extreme losses for many other mmorpg games.

  • I'd love to watch some tourney matches in GW2 as I eat or something :P we just need some good casters

  • For a game to become involved with e-sports requires only 2 things.

    1. People are willing to watch the game without having to play it(such as football, basketball, starcraft, chess)

    2. The company allows it

for most games, the main trouble is the first one, there are nearly no games that people will watch for entertainment. (except starcraft 2)

  • dude which server do u play gw on ?

  • Is WoW an E-Sport? What does it take for a game to be one?

  • I wouldn't be surprise if this game became an E-Sport, especially with the WvWvW pvp gametype..

  • GW1 didn't have E-sport? I don't see how GW2 would have E-sport. Then again, this might be because not enough people played the game. I would love for it to be one but I kinda doubt it...

  • GW1 is contantly balancing its powers, and thanx to one of the best combat gurus in the biz (Izzy) they do an admirable job. The addition to GW2 of being able to shoot and cast spells on the move will make combat more interesting to watch. Balance, action and a good display format is the magic ingredients to generate a fan base. GW2 shows a lot of promise as an ESport.

  • GW1 had a very competative pvp 6+ years ago and was increadibly popular. Anet is very experienced at class balance and they sponsored tournaments all the time in GW1 I'm sure they will be pushing the esport aspect of the game. I just wish they would give us more information such as other maps, observer mode etc because at this time there has been nothing discussed except that they plan on supporting esports and 1 pvp map has been revealed.

  • Sorry , but i have a question , if GW2 is going to be an e-sport , what does that mean?

  • @Qioxz I explain it all in this video.

  • @Qioxz its a sport, its watched, streamed and shown to viewers as it happens

usually tournaments, mainly player vs players

but e-sport so its an internet/computerbased sport

  • i cant wait for this game

  • Awesome, simply awesome. It's like, Guild Wars 2 Is a game made for pros; gamers with experience enough to skip off the basic "grind" and other repetitive concepts, and go directly where It matters most; the PvP.

  • guild wars 2 esports not happening it would be poor, iv played the game love it but the pvp is allright worse then rift or world of warcraft and i think those are poor used to be good 6 years ago. but it wont happen its shity pvp with good pve

  • @dreadfulusername i want to see tera more but i think if any new mmo will go esports it will be tera online

  • @dreadfulusername Is it coz you sucked hard? because i have played it aswell and it is based on SKILL, so why are you hating i guess your used to stadning in one place and casting trying to 3 shot people like in WoW? this will become an e-sport. because its a balanced type of game. with Dynamic combat

  • @MrFrostbite4 i sucked not really i got second place each time, it is pretty bad in ways its the same thing but better graphics, but i think tera isnt as good with pvp from what iv played of the beta resently, the only thing better with guild wars is the moving around bit, but you could still do that with any other game. but its just more opened for doing so but with ranged its well better for them with weapons going back to long and short makes it better for rangers, im waiting for a revalution

  • @MrFrostbite4 in pvp more internesting modes like av but make it good well its your whole team knowing a objective and clasing straight on with the other players on the pvp match with a pvp master and following what they are saying voice chat in them all, i want amazing pvp, if they arent going 50 end game people raids i want steller pvp

  • @dreadfulusername Well your the first person i have heard that has had that point of view on PVP like that... many others said it was the best experiance.. but not everyone is going to like the same thing. But all im saying is that no MMO for a very long time is going to have as much innovative PVP as GW2. Its just very skillful and mindblowing for an MMO. I can see very 'pro' PVPers coming into GW2 for its PVP and it becoming an e-sport. It has quite a lot of potential

  • @MrFrostbite4 i do agree the pvp looks amazing and it takes skill and i love the pvp for a ranger i will say that would be my pvp char but i just would like more types, it could but for alot of people watching something they have been playing for years 10 years the same matches are kind of boring, but the games look good and its doing something was is new but its not truely revalutionary but are more then slightly new. but its close to tera, but swtor has new types, hope guild wars does

  • @dreadfulusername Ahh yeah i value what you say, its different but not revloutinary... probaly true but im so hyped for it because its just something new that i have seen in an MMO and im happy that tera has it aswell because at least from now on newer MMO's can develop this and make it perfect. But for now its just what we can get atm :D

  • @MrFrostbite4 these new types of mmo's i think are going to evovle faster then the gw2 and tera online, i think the next change in mmo's are now going to be good graphics but with more to it gw2 is bringing it with tera but the next generation in 5-6 years im hoping blows the mind out off mmo's for one thing we allready know the next generation should be mmorpg, mmofps, and mmosifi is what im hearing in the next 5 years

  • @dreadfulusername Have to say i agree with that

  • @dreadfulusername From what i have heard Tera online PVP is really poor and this is from Terafans.com they say its nothing new except the targeting system

  • If anyone can pull it off, it's Anet.

Guild Wars 1 PvP was very balanced.

  • I watch a lot of SC2, but do not really play any other e-Sport game, so don't follow the pro scenes for other e-Sports. I am very likely to get heavily into GW2, so being able to watch high-level play and a developing online community would be an honour. There is a reasonable awareness between the different e-Sports games via shared events (notably dreamhack and MLG). If GW2 can make enough noise, the e-Sports community will definitely listen. I would love to see GW2 become an e-Sport!!!

  • @Chalkmaster01 I'm uber excited to see what happens! I love watching competitive Starcraft II! It's really exciting and the commentators really make it a sport.

  • @Snebzor The infrastructure will be there, it will just be up to the community to make it happen. If someone steps up and makes themselves a niche like Tastosis or Day[9], that kind of popularity should start a snowball for GW2 as an e-Sport. All A.net need to do is make the game vaguely viewer friendly (ie spectator mode) and then all it will take 1 or 2 popular names and it should be able to go huge, provided it has the right support :-)

  • i love the idea of GW2 going E-sport.

  • Btw Snebz, if you searchGuild Wars 2 you are now on the second page. Could you also show the link to the interview, thanks!

  • If they split PvE and PvP fully, becoming an e-sport will be no problem, it wouldnt have much to do with the other half of the MMO. Also Guild Wars 2 PvP shares alot with TF2, wich is also played competitive.

  • i have been in vacation about watching and waiting for GW updates :) is CBT happening already? :D

  • @Wynrider Yes, closed beta is currently happening.

  • @Snebzor sweet thats a great news! :)

  • I love watching e-sport games and I play a few regularly (mostly League of Legends). I'm very excited for this. I hope that they stream some pros to watch when I'm at work or maybe (cough cough) become one myself ;) haha. Can't wait to see ^_^. Only concern is that there will be a lot of "try-hards" and "elites" that'll lessen the community.

  • <3 u Snebzor!

  • I WANT THIS

  • Oh yah, this is a little random too. I changed my name to SkiTT3lez... I know its stupid but I had to cause I lost a bet with my friend, lol!

  • Oh yah, and it becoming an E-Sport is awesome!

  • Thanks to MattVisual for providing the awesome music!

  • Is there anyway i could hold a spot in your guild when GW2 comes out? i dont currently own guildwars ):

  • @iNFaMOuSJ3SU5 apply! It's in my channel description!

  • @Snebzor App sent :D

  • we need more info about pvp in order to discern whether or not itll make it into esports... at least thats my take on it

  • WoW is an E-sport, so yes GW2 CAN be an E-sport.

  • @Sytintyt561 WoW isn't as mainstream as a lot of games but it's still fairly competitive!

  • I think the 5v5 PvP in GW2 would fit E-sports perfectly, if its balanced.. And it will also depend on how big the playerbase will get in GW2.

  • If guildwars becomes an e-sport. As a SC2 player and LoL player i LOVE competetive gameplay. So id fully advocate it and start demanding ppl start playing gw2, even more then i already am

  • They did everything they could possibly do to make it a hugely e-sport orientated : little teams, balanced gear, inventive maps and importance of teamplay

  • Don't think making it a E-Sport could hurt it anyway, im not huge into PvP but who knows, if it's fun maybe GW2 changes that.

  • I don't think many E-Sports organisation will take on an MMO, GW2 will have to make tournaments of it own.

  • @Jamesns If they can make it really balanced then I think some organizations may accept an MMORPG - perhaps it's a positive change. Guild War 2 could pave the way for other MMO's getting into E-Sports!

  • @Jamesns Honestly im looking at it as a niche, or a gap that needs filled for e-sports. MMO's are a difficult genre to fit into big media orientated events due to their nature, looking at gw2 i think they will do a good job if fitting it into the e-sports scene.

Keep up the good work Snebz.

  • @Rescorre Yeah I am loving that this is the closest thing so far that could be in an E-Sports and looking forward to it, It would defiantly be more in line how MOBA's are played at the moment. Hopefully them taking out healing will not take out the MMO competitiveness we all love and hate.

  • Depends on how the finished product will be , because we had no news how the closed beta is going since it began , 5 vs 5 is nice , but it would be nicer if the max players would be 10 , also how many maps are there ? i saw only one , Windmill.

We didn't have a deeper gameplay with : ranger and mesmer.

  • @nynono The reason why the tournament mode is 5v5 is to make it easier for players to form tight-nit teams, making it easier for ArenaNet to send them off to various International tournaments. Also the reason why only the Battle of Khylo was shown in conventions is because that's the only map they wanted to show. Form a post a dev made, there is at least 4 PvP maps for GW2.

  • well...it sound like pvp stuff...you'll only see me in pve so....im neutral

  • @AyaneHajinmon How about the WvWvW? Even a PvE'er like yourself may find such a place enjoyable.

  • @Master10k2 i havent seen WvWvW in action so i dont know...and how can u tell who's who in the battle ground? does each world have a different cape on or something? or u just randomly attack everyone o.o

  • @AyaneHajinmon They haven't revealed that yet but they would likely do different coloured nameplates to differentiate people in WvWvW.

  • E sports would be nice as long as the community doesn't turn to shit. Btw nice anger management picture :D

  • @SwCHnable Thanks haha!

  • Were da rm tour!!!

  • GW2 will have millions of players (safe bet), ask yourself, how many of them will be able to play at an E-sport level? Not me! So on the one hand, no it's not needed. On the other hand, If the pros that will be attracted to the game don't interfere with my game play I have no objection.

  • i believe it wont just because of the same reason wow pvp isnt an esport... its simple, unorganised, short game based on objectives compare that to league of legends which has potentially hours clocked on a single match its a no brainer why one is an esport and the other isnt.

  • @wodka450

I disagree, 5vs5 in GW2 is balanced(because everyone is the same level, and everyone has the same armor), and if you are a team of friends, organized. And it doesn't have to be short. short compared to LoL yes, but not compared to CS or some other games. And why do you even compare it to WoWs pvp? Maybe Blizzard didn't want it to be an E-sport, while Arenanet want their game to be one.

  • Yep.

  • im not sure if a mmo can become an E-sport, atleast a serious one. We all know that even wow wasnt really successful in that respect. I will need to ahve many different BGs and, a big AND, there shouldnt be any op classes

  • WoW never tried to be an e-sport, classes in WoW are balanced around PvE.

On top of that, gear in WoW matters a lot more than in GW2, and I'm pretty sure that most spells in GW2 will have 2 versions, one for PvP and one for PvE, that is something that WoW never did because "It's to hard to learn for new players".

The only things you need to have a successful e-sport is a skill-based game with short games that has a pro scene. (Teams, streams, etc.) We already have the first two.

  • e-Sports and Guild wars 2, that means competitive PvP, which is always good. I am a competitive PvP'er. I really wanna try GuildWars 2 out, but if the PvP is going to be bad, i probably going to quit it, BUT, exactly as I said above : e-Sports means competitive PvP.

p.s: Whats the beat ? i really like it ^.^

  • i have always loved gvg and Ha, but i won't have the time to play 12 to 16 hours a day, though i will watch most of the tournaments ofc ^^

  • I wish you had shown clips that actually represented what SC2 and ESports is all about instead of random clips from bronze league players. Other than that good vid.

  • @soradakey Haha I just wanted some random SC2 clips ;) I watch WhiteRa all the time though and I wish I could've stolen some of his replays =D

  • If this happens then i'll finally be into sports XD

  • yes. just yes.

  • I think yes, if they can balance it right.

If not I don't see it becoming too crazy of an e-sport. I mean, if there are easy ways to win these will just be exploited.

I've been following Guild Wars 2 since 2007 and it will be amazing. But I'm still not sure if that will cover e-sports as well. Nice video :)

  • I don't know if i like it, but at the same time i don't think it will effect me very much. In some ways it makes it even harder for the casual mmo player to get into PvP but it seems like that problem could be fixed by joining a more casual guild and just doing PvP with them. I suck at most MMOs and it wouldn't help if PvP was just full of professional pvp players that are trying to win money.

  • pritty shore its being built as e-sport focused as it is with dedicated servers, player run tournaments, monthly and yearly tournaments. only thing missing atm for it to become a e-sport game is spectator mode for players and im guessing thats gunna b in considering what we saw at the arena net tournament, seemed like a type of spectator mode *forget what event it was at*

so my answer is a yes :)

  • i think it says something that we finally live in a time where an MMO, which usually have sucky combat and poor spectator value, can at last become a serous e sport. WONT BEAT SC2 THO LOL

  • I hope not it will make PvP impossible to win something if u sometimes play

  • Comment removed

  • @mistery836 I really don't think so! I think it will allow PvP to evolve in the game... we can learn from these players.

  • I´m gonna love GW2 is it E-Sport or not :)

but if E-Sport is gonna attract more people to buy the game, then sure, go for it Anet, the more the merrier ;)

  • I don't think it's a good thing simply because the creation of a "pro" group of players creates an imbalance in the PvP arena as well as an "elitist" class of players in the community, one that would be larger than otherwise. The imbalance would come from the introduction of hyper MLG players that are so good at what they do that they cannot die and if anyone has ever encountered that kind of player they know how frustrating it is. The "elitist" class of players speaks for itself. Darn char limi

  • @RangerSven introduce matchmaking so good players play with good players and bad players can play with you. thats what most games do

  • HIGH effort video! Show it some love? Like/fav! <3 Thanks so much.

  • @Snebzor Hey man, can you do some mw3?

  • @halogodzzillia3 I did 1 video for MW3 - but I haven't touched my xbox in about 1 month. I'm so bored of Call of Duty!

  • could be cool if GW2 become an e-sport! It could give some prestige to the game, with professionnal players and things... But, it also could push away average & beginner players (totaly overwelmed and surrounded by "over-serious pros"). It can even remove the fun from the game... It'll all depends of GW2 game mechanics and on how e-gamers will influence it (if they can). Could be good as it could be bad.

  • I SOO want GW2 to become an E-Sport. I have always loved PvP, and think the PvP in GW2 is phenomenal. Also havent there already been casts of some matches? If ANet supports GW2's PvP heavily with balance and regular patches, it could very easily become an E-Sport

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooo The Last Charslayer [oR]

  • @IwantGW2 *hugs!* =P hehehehhe

  • first!! =D I'm Reza (oR)

  • @SuperCoraxo you suck. jk
