  • hearing a phone get a text message at 0:57, CANNOT UNHEAR, EVER AGAIN

  • I want to sing for the Protomen. it empowers me with emotion and passion.

  • DAT VOICE.

  • This song would be good for an 80's style montage.

  • you'd be hard pressed to find a song more epic than this

  • @Thelittle1ne I almost agree, I'm torn between this and Breaking Out.

  • So, question: How many people think that keyboard breakdown in the background is just completely awesome around the 5:00 mark? Because I think it's the best part of the whole song, just fucking rocking those synths like a man.

They should do a whole song just with Panther going down on a synth set and just have like a 4 minute solo with just DOODEEDOODEEDOODEEDLEEDEEDALEE all over the place.

  • I love Guardsman Bob for bright me here , and i love this song!

  • @fromiad I can see playing LoL while listening to the Protomen.

  • You never forget your first... Protomen Song.

  • I think this and Light Up the Night are my favourite songs off this album. I've been listening to them pretty much constantly since they came out, and they haven't worn on me.

  • Is there a program (or better, a device) I can use to make my voice sound like the robot at the end? I'm guessing it's some kind of autotune but I've never known exactly which.

Also what the hell is the robot saying? I hear "This city" and "Forgive them"

  • @KingRidley "This city...She's been dead...for years now."

  • Is there a program (or better, a device) I can use to make my voice sound like the robot at the end? I'm guessing it's some kind of autotune but I've never known exactly which.

  • and at like 3:41-ish. Okay I'll stop commenting now.

  • I always think somebody is calling me at around 5:05 because there seems to be a faint telephone ring in the right speaker... very faint but every time I look to the right. haha

  • too many words

  • The robot's voice near the end gives me chills.

  • The story behind this song, and the character of Joe in general, reminds me of Detective Spooner from the movie version of I, Robot. He even gets into a hand-to-hand fight with a robot trying to kill him.

  • This makes me wanna ride light cycles in those tight 80's outfits

  • I saw the protomen in concert yesterday! Man, they are just as good in real life as they are on cd.

  • Wow, this is awesome. Sounds like it was from the 80s! I LOVE the 80s!!! Gimme MORE!!!!

  • @MagnaderAlpha

Try"Light up the night" If you haven't already.

  • I get this 80's vibe from this song and that is awesome!

    >:D

  • @gaara1227

the entire album is like that :D

  • Guys, his name is JesusWasAnAsshole... Trolls don't get more obvious then that, don't take the bait.

  • Wow, you guys are all assholes, attacking a guy just for expressing his opinion.

  • @forgotenm no, he is the asshole for coming on to a perfectly good song and trying to denote it. He isn't much different than a terrorist who attacks people because he dosen't like their customs or culture.

  • @1objection what?

A guy who shtis on things people like is equivalent to someone who murders people?

    You sippin' on some sizz'urp?

  • @Goatmon I didn't say someone who murders people, I said a terrorist. Their main goal is not to murder but to cause chaos and show people they are not afraid to die for their beliefs. If I said "someone who murders", I would have sad a murderer.

  • @Goatmon

People like you should be banned from life. Forever and ever.

  • Joe sounds like he's badass

"If he would die, he would go down swinging"

  • The protomen are better then anything else i've heard on the radio...

  • not only are these songs amazing but the description from the CD is also pretty amazing!

  • This is the most awesome song ever made. Even when I'm trying, I cannot find one thing wrong with this. The lyrics, the instrumental, the chorus, the flow, the singer... this is pure and unaltered epic win.

  • @JesusWasAnAsshole

1.) the tempo is perfectly fine.

2.) it's a rock opera, thats expected he's speaking through song

3.) No they wouldn't he fits the character perfectly.

  • @JesusWasAnAsshole

    1) no you just listen to too many slow songs - namely justin bieber

    2) then your deaf. the voice is higher in light up the night and lower in breaking out

    3) im sure that you like justin bieber more but dont talk trash to real music - even if it is a rock opera

  • @JesusWasAnAsshole

1.) How is the tempo too fast? As long as they remain consistent throughout the whole song, that really doesn't even matter.

2.)The background singers have no real range, but that's because they're background singers. They're there for support, the lead singers voice is very passionate at the end.

3.) I can't reply to this seriously. The lead singer reminds me of Freddie Mercury. Fuck your shit.

  • @JesusWasAnAsshole

    1. Your opionion is obviously not welcome here

    2. your opinion is shit

    3. You are a hipster.

  • @JesusWasAnAsshole

    1) you are an asshole

    2) you suck dicks all day

    3) go back to your shitty music

....you also dont possess a penis

  • Epic!

  • @Ghujelk I've heard them whisper about you, I've heard the men in the bars, I've seen the women lock their doors at night...lock your doors tonight...

  • Why am I just discovering this now? Fuck me with a rake

  • @joshybrown17 All I have is this shovel. I pray this will suffice.

  • @Patatatoodle doesn't it explain that light is announced innocent in one of the songs? and nicely done

  • so my friends got this entirely wrong view of act II he think in breaking out that it is light singing about how he is gonna break out of prison and that joe is some merc that broke him out. and a bunch of other stuff. but then the stuff in the description i saw that in a wiki and i told him and he said "well some one could have just edited it" but seeing it here and a pic of the actual album on google i will finally be able to prove him wrong!!!! aha!!!!!

  • @Patatatoodle

Regardless of his wrongness that sounds badass.

  • This is such an amazing track. So much energy and feeling, and everything harmonizes beautifully.

  • buy the cd visit the Paige, Protomen.com...great in concert

  • Everything the Protomen have made is more epic than I could ever fit into one of these comments. The way the songs build and work off of each other, they're conveying a truly amazing tale. The emotions, the passion, the complexity and (more prominently in the first album) clever play of words bouncing from song to song in order to show more than a few meanings at one time. Even the music is a character all on it's own, like the great classic "Der Erlkönig".

    Astounding.

  • I can hear them, the anger, the bitterness, the sadness of the sacrifices to Model W. Having consumed the souls of people throughout the world, the awakened Model W is the world's consciousness itself. Model W desires destruction... it desires that the Earth concludes its own autobiography... So be it!

  • who is joe?

  • @eturnsify

    Joe

    Sniper Joe

  • These guys have a real oldschool feel to them. Like an '80's movie.

  • @Celdrach exactly what was intended

  • This...I amazing. We need someone to make this a real musical.

  • @SeedofCreed i hope you dont mean live action xD

    animation would be better :3

  • @PNhooligan I dont think anyone would care, live action, animated, what ever, as long as they dont butcher it, do it

  • @PNhooligan

It was intended as a play...

I think a movie would be best though, live action being preferable.

Animation would be cool too if they get it right.

  • Did you write that description, or is it from the album?? If it's from the album... MUST....BUY...

  • @MaiAriSquee I suppose you're buying the album, then?

  • Comment removed

  • @MaiAriSquee Actually, I already bought it on iTunes, but after I saw this I found the liner notes on a wiki.

  • @MaiAriSquee Yep, these are the descriptions given in the lyrics. The songs are meant to at least at first be heard while following them so you an get a good visual of what's going on. Every song's really just another part of a movie that is to play in your head...

  • @MaiAriSquee What? Someone who actually reads descriptions! I congratulate you!

  • Does anybody else notice how at first the woman choir sort of leads on before Joe, then as the song reaches its peak Joe leads the chorus? That's some pretty awesome shit right there.

  • Today, I got trapped on my bus for three and a half hours with nothing but this album to keep me occupied and sane.

NEEDLESS TO SAY. I WAS SET. B)

  • God, this album is like a drug. If I don't get my fix regularly, I go into withdrawal.

  • By the climax of this song, I Just want to grab my TV, throw it through a window, and start a riot.

  • @Goatmon

    Fuck, let's just do it!

FIGHT THE POWER ALL DAY EVERY DAY

  • @ScaniaChan I'm with you guys!

  • Gonna have to do better than fear!

  • @wakeuppp913: Isn't that just the greatest line?

  • @TheEndKing I swear. when the robot voice kicks in and the drums as well, it's my favorite part of the whole album.

  • Is it just me, or does the opening drum rhythm seem to be Joe's heartbeat when he realises he's being followed?

  • @Ketrian Yeah, there's a whole 'heartbeat' thing during the second half of the album. Culminating in the Fall where it flatlines. :(

  • @Zsssss

Light: I shall avenge your death!

Joe: Actually, I'm not quite dead yet.

Light: Oh.. well, then, i shall avenge your MORTAL wounding!

Joe: No, really, I'm feeling better now.

Light: You fell off the bloody tower on fire after getting blown up!

    Joe: I got better.

    XD

  • Something just struck me. When he says "the wrong side of the light", I think he means it in both a literal and metaphorical manner. To be more precise, he is saying that you will die for opposing Wily and for literally walking on the wrong side of a street light. Any thoughts?

  • I took that part as "The wrong side of a line.". It makes abit more sense, if you ask me.

  • @Dojack I figured they expected people to make the connection.

  • I sing the solos.

  • @redaelk: It's The Protomen. Not at all man. :D

  • Is it bad that I am a man and I sing along with the woman voices?

  • No. It's awesome enough to warrant singing along with *everything*.

  • @KatukoThunderToa: lol, i concurr!

  • @redaelk Not really. I do it too, it helps keep my vocal range.

  • @redaelk Pfft, no way. Who cares, so long as you enjoy it?

  • @redaelk

Yes. The church frowns on it.

  • @Faunbro That is funny. Thank you.

  • @redaelk It's only bad if you don't.

  • @redaelk Naw dude...I bet we all do it. It's hard to contain yourself with this much awesome.

  • @redaelk when it comes to the protomen nothing is wrong

  • Easily the best song on the album. I listen to it countless times daily.

  • With me it's a tie between this and Breaking Out.

  • @Xanza781 all the songs that involve joe are awesome. i like them the best

  • Neat how you added the story from the booklet to the info panel.

This is my favorite song. ^^ I think my girlfriend may be getting tired to listening to it on repeat for the past week. @_@
