@Koryo8 No. I'm sorry, it wouldn't. Not everyone my age is a moron. I found music like this due to not liking what is/was in the charts and seeking other music out.
Now my collection of 78's is taking the piss and I'm running out of space due to the fact I'v been collecting since I was in primary school (£1 78's at jumble sales took up all my pocket money)
In my opinion Eddie Fisher is the best singer ever and his versions of great songs are almost always the best. However Vic has the definitive version on this one,and it will always be his song.
When this recording was popular, I was infatuated ( just as in an earlier post) with this boy in my high school class who lived in another town about 8 miles away. Before we actually got together, and with sweaty palms and racing heart, I would drive up his street scared to death he'd see me but feeling euphoric that I was on the street where he lived. This song says it all!!
Thank You McDonald's for choosing the best version of this song for your advert NOT!!!!!!! How dare you try to spoil my childhood happy musical memories !
I was in junior high school when I first heard this song. I was infatuated with a girl named Niaomi St. Hilaire. I would walk up and down past her house on Fleet Street in the hopes that she would appear and make my dreams come true.
fabulous voice and orchestration love it!!!! found by accident vic is great ROGHARM rated highest11+ great phrasing and tone and sustaining notes. thank you poster!!!!!
This is an alternate take from the session that produced the hit. Differences are subtle, but the phrase, "people stop and stare; they don't bother me," is obviously different. Check BADBIKERBENNY post to hear the hit take and compare the phrasing. Sony issued this CD after buying Columbia; it's likely they didn't know which was which. It wouldn't be the first time they did that when reissuing American music. Or, some young rock and roll producer just wanted to get this project over with.
Madmen.

I haven't heard this song for a while, but I am not sure if this is the original version. The phrasing seems a little different. I don't know...

I don't if any of you know who the great Country singer Jim Reeves was, but Vic Damone was his idea of what a singer should be.

@dog1701 sadly I know Jim Reeves before I know Vic Damone, but now I understand what Jim Reeves meant!

@eve22112 Elvis studied Vic before he left Germany to relaunch his career as a more adult balladeer.
