  • More like one clam snapping its shell.

  • i have a question too, what is that things like noodle on top off the clam?? is that worm?? euuft

  • @sekireiAZ Would you eat the shell? A scallop lives on the bottom of the sea, and its hard shell serves as a base for many other creatures. The worm would never get into the scallop itself, as this feeds by filtering seawater.

  • ya think somebody else could tell us they have eyes!who cares!lets eat.

  • I WANNA EAT THEM! x___x

  • I actually only saw 1 scallop clamming. And it wasn't really clamming, more like convulsing from dryness shock.

  • aye ive never seen clams like that before with the ridges the ones i fish are rounder and smooth

  • It's a BIVALVE people. Not a kitten. It's like getting sad over the demise of plankton or a jellyfish.

  • you would say this is cool. but this is actually cruel - it's agony what they're going thru, not fun clapping

  • you know, the world isn't going to end because 8 scallops died, sea otters eat them all the time, and i bet they go through a lot more agony when they're bashed against a rock until they splinter

  • While I don't bemoan the existence of the fishing industry or any other agricultural organizations, to me this is (almost) similar to watching someone drown a cat or a dog. I'm a bleeding heart vegetarian, though, so it's no surprise.

    :) Interesting creatures, the bivalves!

  • those big things snapping while im standing there would scare me shitless im not gonna lie,im just standing there then i hear "CLAMP".

    yah!

  • thats neat , i never though that they were accually alive

    1. Do they breath and have eyes?

    2. Can they bite your finger off?

    3. Is that as big as they get?

  • Answering questions above:

    1. They don't have lungs, but get their oxygen supply from the water, like fish do. They have no eyes.

    2. Their shells can catch your finger if it happens to be in there when they shut, and give it a nasty nip. They cannot bite (have no teeth) or digest solid nutrition. Scallops filter the seawater and extract algae and other microscopic organisms from the water

    3. They can grow to about 15 cm / 6 inches across I believe

  • Actually Scallops DO have eyes. 64 of them in fact! (Just google Scallop eyes.)

  • @ADB41

They DO have eyes—simple eyes or "ocelli"—up to 100 of them, in fact.

They DO have eyes—simple eyes or "ocelli"—up to 100 of them, in fact.

  • @ADB41 @tinsel15 Actually, Scallops have sixty eyes.

  • @ADB41 They actually have between 50 and 200 simple eyes but they are used to note changes in light such as to escape predators.

  • @ADB41 Not true actually. They do have eyes believe it or not. Learned it in highschool biology.

  • @ADB41 Actually, they do have eyes. They are sensitive to light, but see no shapes or colours. When you are close enough you can see black dots peering out from each half of its hinged shell.

  • yes they have eyes

  • I always feel bad watching this, every time I go scalloping, about once a year, I enjoy collecting them, but I get so sad watching them die :[

  • Send me some, I like eating scallops!!

  • They look like sea jewels. Magnificent looking mollusks you got there.

  • "Anyone who eats fish, eats from the sea." No shit Sherlock! I eat from the sea too, lol but it depends where from. I think further up North is okay, but when its doon here its full of peoples crap, toxins, poisions, and other contanimants. Yuk!

  • ou still eat from the sea? arent there toins, and poisons over there in Stornoway?

  • These were collected in March, before the shellfish poison count went up again. Anyone who eats fish, eats from the sea.

  • what are scllops i never understood, are they fish, are they alive creature??? WHAT ARE THEY???

  • Scallops are shellfish in other words. They are very much alive - see the video!

  • Scallops were collected at low tide in Stornoway Harbour, Scotland

  • were they found diving at low tide or just lying there also how big are they

  • They were lying on the seabed, exposed during an exceptionally low tide. They measured between 8 and 12 cm (3 to 5 inches).

  • 8 cm is too small to collect. in scotland and english channel they must be 100mm and irish sea they must be 110mm it's people like you who don't care about the future of our scottish fleet

  • mctentie,

Please keep a sense of perspective, half a dozen scallops from a harbour. Commercially harvested scallops are swept up hundreds at a time every day of the year by dozens and dozens of boats.

  • Where are those scallopos from?
