  • Elastica settled out of court. I'm not surprised...

  • Respect to The Wire but that's a pretty generic riff

  • I don't think "connection" is a ripoff. It sounds more like a deliberate citation or sample of this song, and then it evolves in a completely different direction.

  • God I love this song. Too bad about Elastica ripping it off. This was the First Wire song I ever (remember) heard. 1 minute 24 seconds of life changing awesome.

  • alpha scouser you must be a fucking idiot

  • Elasticas version is better.

  • BEST SHORT SONG EVER!

  • @JeemasM No best short song. Drunk Driving by Sublime. But this one is good too.

  • @mschell5350 How funny is the world! I crashed my car last week because I was driving drunk. So, this one can't be the best (i'm still in shock even though it wasn't serious) hahaha But it's good tho! and even shorter!

  • "Talent borrows, genius steals" - Oscar Wilde. I like this song, as well as Elastica's "Connection".

  • who raped the replay button?

  • Why is everyone so upset that Elastica jacked the riff from this? So what. Nothing is original. Good artists steal and make other's ideas their own.

  • @grantruby good artists should write their own music, it should come from their head not their stereos! i listen to my stereo to appreciate music not to get new riffs. could you imagine Ford ripping off chevs corvette and calling it the ford crovette - sounds stupid huh, problem with music is too many people dont have any inspiration but they have all the dexterity they need so whats a person to do - start ripping off the inspired artists - i have no respect for that kind of artist - NONE

  • @grantruby good artists DO NOT RIP PEOPLE OFF DUMMY. go listen to your sublime.

  • @pippigladstone Good artists rip people off all the time. Transformative art has been around for centuries. As T.S. Eliot wrote: "One of the surest tests [of the superiority or inferiority of a poet] is the way in which a poet borrows. Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different."

And why does my stance mean I must listen to Sublime? Your stance must then mean you listen to Nickelback.

  • @grantruby why would that mean i listen to nickelback they go hand in hand.

  • I just wish Wire were nice enough to play a song off Pink Flag when I saw there recent show!!! Really CRAP guys!!

  • Elastica ended up paying for it. And which band is still remembered?

  • @erikacornia WIRE.

  • meh its such a simple riff... the songs themselves are quite different apart from that one riff

  • it's not exactly the most complicated riff, easy to stumble into.

  • P.S Musicians have been plagiarising each other for centuries...That´s just the way it is.

  • GO UNDAH GO UNDAH, GO UNDAH GO UNDAH, YOU TEAR ME ASUNDAH

  • the connection has been made.

  • Whats so wrong about a band being heavily influenced by another band? seriously

    Theres nothing wrong with it

And they did change it, in case you didnt notice

but they didnt change it enough for idiots to recognise

  • @mickmars51 There's being heavily influenced and there's sucking Satan's copyright-infringing cock

  • Quality, looked for this for ages, nice post.

  • ELASTICA STRAIGHT UP RIPPED THIS OFF

  • @miamiwax Yes, they did. And they paid for it, too.

  • @miamiwax no.

  • @miamiwax yes, but thanks to them..a lot of people who didn´t know about Wire got to discover them..so.

  • @Jasminebeeful Did they? Because it seems to me that, with their most familiar hit, Elastica just plain got away with ripping off another act's music, without that act's receiving any compensation (the out of court settlement did not line Wire's pockets), and without Elastica's giving a monkey's fuck about celebrating other people's ripped-off music. Cf. Blur with 'Song 2', ripping off the Icelandic band Botnleðja (AKA Silt) because they knew nobody had heard the original song.

  • @RussMoxham Well, I wouldn´t have got to know The Stranglers and Wire if it weren´t for Elastica..and I (only me, I suppose) went out and bought their albums...so.

  • @RussMoxham Give me a break, it was just the yippee part of the chorus that Blur used. Silt toured with Blur after Song #2 was released. Would they have accepted an opening slot if they felt ripped off? Would Blur have offered it? Apples and Oranges....

  • @stubkar uh no. The guitar riff.

  • @miamiwax They ended up having to pay Wire damages.

  • @cheekysausage

    actually they paid nothing.

  • @miamiwax word homie!

  • @miamiwax It's funny how bands like Elastica always gets blamed for one simple sound sampling in only one song when on the other hand, that Rihanna cunt sampled thousands of sounds from thousands of songs and gets away with everything! I think plagiarism has a problem somehow!

  • @Myworld1916 I would imagine Rihanna (like most major-label artists) has a huge team of lawyers looking to clear each and every song she samples. It's completely different.

  • @Myworld1916 Sampling isn't plagiarism. If you think Rihanna should get sued, then you might as well try to sue every hip hop and techno artist in the world too.

  • @miamiwax Or MAYBE they had a time machine and ripped off Elastica in 1995? Okay, you're right. Damn you. :)

  • @miamiwax they admitted it, too. so no harm done, nice recycling of a good riff.

  • the clues in the title , rumba beat. just a thought .

  • also people don't forget "Line Up" and "I am the Fly"

  • stutter has similar chords and timing at the beginning of ex-lion tamer, but the similarity stops in the first 2 seconds...other than that, don't really hear anything relatable.

  • well now, i think stutter by elastica is also a pretty clear mmm borrowing of elements from ex lion tamer. it was really hilarious when i dated someone who loved wire (whom i had not heard before) and he played me pink flag and i was like HOLY CRAP and proceeded to play him elastica songs- which he had never heard. then we saw they had been sued over it. ha.

  • Elastica = Crap band that released only 2 albums, which were bothe crap.

Wire= Joint best punk band ever (with the Clash), released more songs in Pink Flag (their debut) then elastica ever did. Pink Flag is one of the greates debuts ever and oh yeah, they fucking rock, so why even mention that shitty, band what no-one else remembers from the 90's.

The 90's were crap, Long live the 70's.

  • Elastica is crap.

  • Elastica's version rocks a lot more than this. Wire should be glad that Elastica ripped them off...for the better!

  • Fuck off

  • @dazzdeadmeadow

That was original. Did you come up with that all by yourself?

  • Yes, and it worked a treat. Elastica??? Where are they now?? Hmmm. Wire...still knocking out stuff with more validity than most bands can even dream of today.

    Case closed.

  • @dazzdeadmeadow

Case? What case? The enjoyment of music is strictly a subjective taste. That you think Wire is the cat's meow has no bearing on the fact that I think they sound like a bunch of snarling cats. As the Clash noted "If you have been doing for years, we've already heard your song" maybe its time Wire gives it a rest

  • Seems the Clash didn't listen to subsequent Wire albums. The Clash just did the same old thing but made it tamer for an American market.

Good that The Clash felt the need to comment on a band that sound like "snarling cats". Shows how important Wire are.

Snarling cats...punk. Well maybe you need to buy some Aled Jones if you want an easier pace.

  • @dazzdeadmeadow

Eh, the Clash weren't commenting on Wire but bands (or people) in general that have worn out their welcome.

  • Hahaha... did you just make fun of the Clash saying they put out the same old thing??

Yeah... definitely what they're known for. Rehashing the same music over and over...

They didn't combine 5 different genres of music at all....

  • Why listen to them then? Surely it's only your own time you're wasting?

  • Yeah, Elastica seems to have ripped off a few of Wire's songs. search Youtube for Elastica vs Wire. Good little video comparison.

  • @cerebraloddity : Besides that one, I can't find anymore Elastica ripped off Wire.

  • @MoriKAshi "Line Up" sounds suspiciously like "I Am The Fly" by Wire and "Nothing Stays the Same" like "Kidney Bingos". Also the music on the new Ford Focus ad seems to owe a lot to "Kidney Bingos".

  • Connection by Elastica! :)

  • punk in its crystallized form.

  • My mom's friend (a fellow teacher) made me a tape when I was 12 with Dr Octagon (kool keith), the Pixies, and wire. I already liked some good shit, but that tape changed my life. Especially The Pixies...This is an awesome song though...and 1 2 xu

  • ...but somehow, the vital connection is made...

  • Colin was really handsome. And his face reflects his intelligence. Very intimidating.

  • Seems like a nice guy to me. Love everything he's ever done.

  • Yeah, I actually met him in Philly. Incredibly polite and nice and overall charming. Beautiful man inside and out.

  • Just great! I love their music!....It always reminds me of funny times in the eightees when I used to be in the Punkscene! I love that memory!
