I surprised my self by knowing the lyrics to this wonderful song. This used to be my lullaby, my parents would both come and sit on my bed and sing this song. When I was little, it was what I thought of when the word magic was mentioned. <3
The first of December was covered with snow... but so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston. The Berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frosting...
With ten miles behind me, and ten thousand more to go...
Lyrics that haven't been matched (by a "pop" artist) in forty years...
This is such a beautiful song. I sang it a few times to my new horse who was having trouble settling in at the new stable during the night. I hope it helped him a bit.

Was played this from birth by my dad, after him passing away when i was 7 (8 years ago) i cant help getting the lump in my throat at the sound of Taylor
As an Englishman, I love listening to Taylor, King, CSN, Joni etc because it sounds like the very best of America; I haven't visited (yet!), but I can almost feel the Californian sun and smell the air. Love this music - distinctly American and proud.
I grew up with my aunt singing me this song to her two neices and it was always special because she's been to the Berkshires, and the turnpikes in Boston. And my birthday is the first of December. <3
love james taylor! i can just sit and listen to him for hours, i just get lost in his music and reality slips away from me, as i think this man has incredible talent. he brings me to another place. its so peaceful!
Are there words to adequately describe this man's creative genius, artistic talent and musical gifts? As much as I get lost in the music I still can't understand how it's all possible. Thanks.
I sang this to my tiny nephew when he was a baby before I knew this was written by Mr. Taylor for his nephew, James. I now wake up to this song on my phone alarm every day because it makes me smile. :)
This song was my lul-a-bye, even though i'm not a boy, nor is my name James. I haven't hear this song since i was about 4 or 5, but when i heard it, i remembered every single word, and hear my mother signing it to me :)

Along with his masterful picking is a voice that soothes. He does it so effortlessly, but there is true magic here.A longing inside all of us.

@arbanaskocudo There are plenty of god singers out there today - just watch idol. The difference is that James Taylor are a genuine musician.

My mom always used James Taylor as an example of why I should never cut my hair, because now he doesn't have any.

Ever notice how the older artists sound the same way 'live' as they do on their records? Something to do with their having talent, methinks.....
xaenon 3 months ago 5
@xaenon Yeah,...where would "artists" today be without overdubbing, autotune, and synthetic tone adjustments?
