What fun to see the old Ampex 960. I used one only once. I used an Ampex 910, the mono version at my high school many times. This was back in the early 60's. I have an old, working Ampex AG 600-2.
The only problems I have with this model: you can't listen to the mike preamps except off of tape; the erase head shorts out electrically if you try to record on back-coated tape stock. I have 4 of them. Makes recordings comparable to the 600-series.
