Anyway, I am confident there are some very good games for linux as well, I have a good friend that uses ubuntu in order to play online but I do not know which games. Just look around for some titles. I bet most of them are free...
@marianiandrea0208 With Windows I know everything will work, I don't need to configure anything for it to work, or emulate any programs designed for other Operative Systems to be able to play or use anything. For me Windows is the best since it's not overly expensive or totally user unfriendly. That's the view I got anyways.

OK, I have never seen a better description of GNU/Linux before this. Especially in comparison with the other main operation environments. GNU/Linux is the Switzerland of the OS world. I agree with using GNU/Linux as a primary OS and either using a compatibility layer to use other OS programs, or Dual-booting Windows and GNU/Linux.

@aryaxt linux has come so far in the last two years that it is incredible let alone the last 5, you should really look in to again. I am a college engineering student and have no issues with software and the like. Besides that it has many features now of both Window and Mac, and many more besides being more stable (Referring to Ubuntu 10.04) than Windows 7.

The only thing that gives Windows it's value is it's popularity.

Linux is too damn hard to use... command lines and code. Hard to install software. hard to repatch your kernel - like why cant it do this easily through GUI??? Why does so much rely on shell? I've installed Ubuntu and Xubuntu from live CD and I thought it was a snap ! the synaptic package manager took me a little while to figure out but it's not like there isn't a million tutorials out there to help. I would imagine if someone had used nothing but Linux they would find Windows hard and confusing too. I'm going to try to set up my computer to dual boot Mint and XP as soon as I get a new hard drive.
Yes, because in the rare moments that you actually need to use the command line, which are getting more and more rare as more drivers are written and no compiling of your own is needed, it's so difficult to google your problem and copy-paste some code. I personally had no idea what any of the shell code I used did, but used it every once in a while. The boot time on my laptop has gone from 50 second when I got it to 15 now.
and you dont have to be a "professor geek" to know how it works... and what freaking os does not rely on shells ??? .... i mean there are no desktop envoriment built in a kernel.. it is a shell... its like asking why all cars are engine based... :P
@Deathrape2001 windows xp had some minor glitches with it, but was overall good. vista was bad at first but since they fixed 99% of the bugs, its actually extremely good. 7 is basically still beta, but should be fine by June, the fact that u said that xp was the best that Microsoft has shows how little you really know about OSs. Linux may be semi-customizable but, that doesn't make it a better OS. It makes no difference how something is set up to be done, what matters is how fast/well it's done.
Linux is almost completely customizable to the average person.
If you knew you're way around the system? you can change everything.
By the way buddy Linux is used on over 95% of supercomputers. windows 4.9% and Mac I have found evidence of just one (and she's a slow bird even though shes new)

OK, I have never seen a better description of GNU/Linux before this. Especially in comparison with the other main operation environments. GNU/Linux is the Switzerland of the OS world. I agree with using GNU/Linux as a primary OS and either using a compatibility layer to use other OS programs, or Dual-booting Windows and GNU/Linux.

@aryaxt linux has come so far in the last two years that it is incredible let alone the last 5, you should really look in to again. I am a college engineering student and have no issues with software and the like. Besides that it has many features now of both Window and Mac, and many more besides being more stable (Referring to Ubuntu 10.04) than Windows 7.

I'm pretty sure servers are a much bigger target than individual PCs. The reason Windows is so popular is because Microsoft created a monopoly early on when the personal computer was getting popular.

@Shyhalu Lack of security, needs lots of maintenance, becomes fragmented, slows down over time, very little hardware support without installing drivers, barely any software out of the box, updates take a long time to install and will automatically restart your computer if you don't stop it, barely customizable, unstable, needs to be restarted at least once every 1-3 days, allows the NSA to monitor your computer use. The only thing that gives Windows it's value is it's popularity.

I've installed Ubuntu and Xubuntu from live CD and I thought it was a snap ! the synaptic package manager took me a little while to figure out but it's not like there isn't a million tutorials out there to help. I would imagine if someone had used nothing but Linux they would find Windows hard and confusing too. I'm going to try to set up my computer to dual boot Mint and XP as soon as I get a new hard drive.

Yes, because in the rare moments that you actually need to use the command line, which are getting more and more rare as more drivers are written and no compiling of your own is needed, it's so difficult to google your problem and copy-paste some code. I personally had no idea what any of the shell code I used did, but used it every once in a while. The boot time on my laptop has gone from 50 second when I got it to 15 now.
And it's fun.

@Deathrape2001 windows xp had some minor glitches with it, but was overall good. vista was bad at first but since they fixed 99% of the bugs, its actually extremely good. 7 is basically still beta, but should be fine by June, the fact that u said that xp was the best that Microsoft has shows how little you really know about OSs. Linux may be semi-customizable but, that doesn't make it a better OS. It makes no difference how something is set up to be done, what matters is how fast/well it's done.

The exact opposite is true. Windows runs about 100X more hardware than Linux, literally. 4 instance, a box of about 100 video cards, & Linux only ran 1 of them, & 4 even that I had 2 download a 3'rd party non 'Nix driver from nVidia. If U want 2 B able 2 use N E thing older than 10 years, or not a major brand, Nix is close 2 useless. Half the cards it wouldn't even run in compatability mode. Now that's just sad.

@codecaine Windows 7 is garbage, & so is everything past XP SP1 =) XP SP1 is the best OS product from Microsoft - runs almost everything, & is not AS crippled as their other OSes, or as insanely overcomplicated & feature-limited as other alternatives like Linux variants =)

I do laugh all these clowns paying hundreds of $ 4 a 400Mhz - the sort of stuff people throw in the trash these days. Not 2 say 400 is so horrible, but not 4 hundreds of $. Only a Mac user would rape themselves so hard. "WOO shiny! =)

All the people that say that Linux sucks don't know anything about computers. For one almost the entire web is run on UNIX and Linux. Also Linux IS the most secure Kernel and operating system and it IS the most cross platform OS. If your complanning about Linux not being ad "easy" to use as windows and Mac, then you don't understand enough about computers to be useing one. And mac is a waste if money. BTW great Vid.

That's like saying Windows started out as CP/M so you're basically paying for what is now a free program... about as intelligent as an earthworm. The difference between FreeBSD (not "free BSD", d'oh!) and the Mac OS is like the difference between an Etch A Sketch and a 50", 240hz, LCD, HDTV. Hint: NO similarity. I've used FreeBSD and the Mac OS is no FreeBSD, lemme tell you. The only thing cooler than a Mac is the new SeaDoo with water brakes and air suspension and you can't use them on land.
