Released in 1961....Billboard Magazine named it the biggest country song of all time..based on sales...airplay..and weeks on the charts. It was #1 on the country charts for 19 weeks...it stayed in the charts for 42 weeks.....it even reached # 5 in the pop charts...the song sold over 1,500,000 copies!!!
I just read all the comments on this song, and I couldn't agree more. I see such a thread in those comments-things like, "gee, what a great song", why don't they do more like that now. I couldn't agree more. I play in a small country western band, and I just can't get this song out of my mind. We're gonna have to do that song, no matter what. Marc Trainor.
Thanks for uploading this beautiful song pal. This song was the one uplifted my spirit, when I was young, fell in love, got dumped and get up again to follow the star, thanks a lot.

That's the kind of song you want to listen to while driving your pickup on a dusty prairie road, with a cool beer between your legs!

I was a child when this song was first released. I thought it was brilliant then and nothing, over the years, has changed my mind. Ah, fond memories.
