Because electric is more expensive than diesel. Sometime you can even see a diesel train coming out the park ave tunnels. They switch to diesel as soon as possible.
Nice Video! Too bad it wasnt a video of the FL-9's when they had there hancock whistles. Also did you pump your for the engineer to blow the horn or did the engineer just honk because it was coming through on the local tracks?
thanks for the comment. i actually have footage that my father taped back in like 88 or 89 of 2 new haven painted fl9's with the hancock air whistles that led a special train from shelton, ct to danbury, ct for shelton day. i just don't know how to upload vhs onto the computer. if i can ever figure out how i will definately post it.
All Metro-North engineers are required to blow for the station only if they're on a track with a platform on it (Amtrak, CSX, and anyone else that shares the Hudson Line are also required).
That's pretty fast.Nice shot.

jkrb05 3 years ago
This is the Hudson Line where most of the dual modes make Croton-Harmon as the first time stop.
Wassaic is the Harlem Line.

The engineer blew the horn because the train was coming through on the local track.
