  • South river class of 75........

  • Do you remember when this album came out and it was in the new "quadraphonic" format instead of stereo? And if you had access to a quadraphonic sound system and put the four speakers in a different corner of the room you could hear the music go around and around you. I wonder what happened to all those quadraphonic sound systems?

  • i've only recently seen a Top Gear episode where they were asking about driving songs. On the right stretch of road (up here on the north coast of NSW, Australia) this song is unreal!!!

  • @yeah0thats0fine This is the Greatest long distance drivng song eva ! I drove perth-kalgorlie back again, twice,.6 1/2 hours one way, through the nights. No drugs,no coffee just mostly this song on a loop, full volume. The beat just drove, time just flew by.

  • I do believe it was sometime this month Nilsson Schilsson was released.

  • 15 people need t

  • 15 people are little hicks

  • I was goin to be busy all day...

  • As much as I hate agreeing with Huey Lewis, the heart of rock and roll truly is the beat. The rhythm section on this song is spectacular.

  • Helicopters! I'll show you helicopters!

  • There aren't a slew of reasons for me to be happy about being 50, but having been old enough to rock to the awesome release of Nilsson Schmilsson is unquestionably one of them,

  • One of Harry's best, Without You being the first., and Put the Lime in the Coconut third.

  • I'm in as long as there are goodfeeling songs for goodfellas.......

  • One of my favorite crank the volume songs when I am in my car.You rocked Harry, and your music always will.

  • Goodfellas had the best soundtrack of all time!

  • Memorable in "Red Dog" ... great placement.

  • This has more views than the actual song!

  • Who's been carving their initials into the tomato

  • 13 people forgot their lucky hat.

  • cocaine

  • @baked4211 Ever heard the original sung by the person who wrote it? It's a million times better. Clapton=Great. Cale=Nothing compares!

  • Am I the only one to think that the great drum solos in songs went away after John Bonham and Keith Moon died? I'm not positive on the timeline but I don't think I'm far off.

  • @joenewbie316 Don't forget Phil Collins.

    Actually, yes, forget Phil Collins.

  • @razorsedge555 Phil is great! Especially before Disney bought him. Listen to No Jacket Required; you'll like it.

  • @BobDenby agreed phil collins and elton john were great but made shit music since the mid 90s when they started in with the cartoons.

  • @joenewbie316 You forgot one of the greatest drum solos of all time. Pamela Anderson with white snake in the cage rotating over the crowds head.

  • @joenewbie316 they still exsist, but in Europe and mostly in melodic balck metal, some really good stuff not what you would expect.

  • Great ... thanks for the share!

  • Great scream at about 3:33.

  • I say this with genuine love for all three songs; how in the hell is this on the same album as Coconut and Can't Live? The fact that one man did all of them is astounding.

  • Get your sunglasses and take a drive with helicoptor in pursuit of you! Just like Ray Liotta

  • mental drums in this one!

  • yea i remember tripping to this song..now i'm 57 and miss those days,,,,

  • Life was simple then.

  • I'm smokin' a fahkin' bowl kehd!!!

  • that it is inconceivable, I think everyone would like to get into this movie inside

  • holy shit

  • Maximum Effect will be obtained by turning your volume switch all the way to FLAT OUT and then an extra notch.....

  • @hopstar01 and crank the de-tuned bass up to "bleeding out the ears"

  • I was trippin' out on this, long before I ever tried any mind altering substance, damn I wish I was so young and dumb again, to be able to enjoy it purely for what it is... Kick Arse Music...............

  • stir the sauce!

  • the last day of a gangsta

  • I've yet to hit a 'speedball", (heroin & cocain) but this would be the perfect song for that if I was so inclined. Perfect song for a strung out, paranoid, wiseguy with too many balls up in the air-- about to feel what its like to have both shoes drop on his head.

  • IM GONNA MAKE THIS MEAT... IM GONNA MAKE ALL THIS MEAT XD that made me laugh so hard when i watched the movie:D

  • This song fucking rocks! It was part of the best summer of my life.

  • this song makes me think im the only me that will ever be this is the only chance ill get in etrnity live it now when its gone its gone forever eternity never to return thats what makes it so great

  • Yeah, heard this on Q107 Toronto Sunday morning driving into the city. Sang my head off - it was embedded deeply in my heart and soul. Powerful energy. The bass and drums are stellar. My husband says vocals remind him of the Cult, She Sells Sanctuary. Gotta agree..

  • @curlwhirl so many bands chumped this energy, me too, lol

  • @curlwhirl was there a helicopter following you?

  • this morning on q107 Toronto, first time i ever heard this tune, wow blew my fuckn doors off, rushed home to hear it again, im covering this song on my debut album,

  • this song is also in a new Australian movie, Red Dog - hasn't made it to the USA yet but if it does (and I hope it does) go see it...it's really good and it has a great sounds track !!!!

  • this song is so fucking hot

  • I absolutely love this Blues Rock song.Great to Go Go dance to.

  • Sure let's do it. But I'm startin withoout you cause I ain't sharing my shit. But I'll share yours. Meet me down on the corner by the bar where trans hang out. If I ain't there beat it and I'll be back.

  • Musicians

Harry Nilsson – vocals, electric piano

    Jim Gordon – drums, percussion

    Klaus Voormann – bass

    Jim Webb – piano

Jim Perry - Roger Pope (combined) Drum solo

    *Note :

Ringo Starr did not contribute to any songs on this album....

  • @jimmyapolis

Forgot to add Caleb Quaye Guitar

  • @jimmyapolis If I'm correct, didn't Caleb Quaye work with Elton John on "Rock of the Westies"?

  • 12 people were told to go and get their fuckin' shinebox

  • @hawaiianrobot ROFL

  • @hawaiianrobot you mudda fucka! haha good shit

  • @jackblacksutube motherfuckin mutt!

  • Today's theme tune...

  • I may be wrong about Ringo on the whole album but I believe that a few of the studio players used different names. Klause Voorman was tight with the beatmen also.

  • <3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

  • when I here this song I wanna drink beer and make love

  • Really?Ringo? Didnt know that thats cool!!!

    This whole album rocks!!!

  • @yagaboo2u Nilsson was in with the Beatles like Flint.

They loved him and he loved them, Ringo and John especially.

    Smother Brothers incident!

  • Ringo Starr plays the drums on this album

  • @danielmustain According to the credits, its Jim Gordon...at least for this song anyway

  • @danielmustain But NOT on this song. The drum solo is two drummers : Jim Gordon and Roger Pope.

  • I believe it was produced by Richard Perry, I went through two of these on vinyl, still have them both. Most underated guy of the era, could do anything and John Lennon's favorite "band".

  • now its in RED DOG

  • Did Phil Spector produce this?

  • great song

  • A lot of things were smoked listening to this back in the olden days.

  • What a brilliant drummer Jim Gordon is. This drum groove is just so simple and yet so good... Shame they won't let him out of the mental home...

  • @kewlfonz He may get out one day. One never knows. He is doing well these days...thanks for the kind comment about my friend.

  • Simply Stunning!! A voice for the ages and maybe the greatest rock-n-roll song ever!

  • this song reminds me of he muppets

  • I've never really listened closely to this song, but if I didn't know any better, I would SWEAR that Harry's back-up band for this song was CAN.

  • Thanks for posting this,,,,,hadn't heard the whole version in 35 years!!!!!

  • i totally forgot about the drum and bas jam

  • whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa make each other happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuck, I gotta go stir the gravy before I begin taping the stuff to Lois' leg. You know what, I'm gonna make all this, gonna make all this meat.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft GOODFELLAS !!

  • Comment removed

  • Top song !!!

  • I really really like the Tripping Daisy cover, but it doesn't even scratch the surface of how great this song is.

  • Time to do the air drums.

  • Methinks Harry was doing a "Wake and Bake" when the photographer showed up.

  • Fabulous. *****.

  • This is serious "dance in the living room with the dog" music.

  • @barbaraannish1 That's what I'm doing right now my dog is like WTF?????

  • @barbaraannish1 That's soooo true! I love it :) Makes you want to run around and throw the arms in the air! I want to go get high!! Oh can't :( Being an adult has it's down falls!

  • I read he and John Lennon hung out together .I wonder if they collabrated on a record together.Does anybody know if they did or not?

  • @naturelover1957 Collaborated? Why, John practically produced an album of Nillsons. XD

  • @naturelover1957 They did Pussycats together though I think Lennon was mainly a producer.

  • meat sauce, cocaine, silencers, cocaine, stir the sauce, helicopters, meat sauce, helicopters, cocaine, cocaine, "i need a hit", sauce, meatballs, brother, cops, busted, mom, trash bin, silencers, cocaine.....GOODFELLAS

  • @tylerf13ful you're a funny guy!....you know, the way you tell the story.....what?

  • in response to cheetahtree this song was in the movie goodfellas and i still have this album...it rocks...very good tune

  • Jim Gordon on drums. I think he's still in jail.

  • Your joking right? About being told it is 'in the movie Good Fellas'?

  • I watched his bio DVD and they said they pre recorded all the instrumental tracks for this LP with no lyrics written, as of yet. The day Harry went into the studio to do the vocals he laid on the floor with his head in his hands and wrote ALL the lyrics for each song on the spot. There will never be another Nilsson.

  • Harry Nilsson had such amazing breadth, able to go effortlessly from the pop of "Daddy's Song" to the childlike whimsy of "Me and My Arrow" to the heaviness of this number, used so effectively in Scorsese's Goodfellas to suggest Ray Liotta's paranoiac, coked-up mindset. Love you Harry!

  • We can make each other happy

  • A deep refelction of how two people struggled to make thing s work between themselves, maybe for as long as 25 years, only to leave one with a message like this.

It seems fitting that I can hear the heavy loud rumbling of thunder outside my windows as I listen.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • This song makes me want to pick my brother up from the hospital, start a huge Italian dinner, bring guns to Jimmy, take them back, pick up Karen, hide the guns in her mom's garage, go shopping, get the guns, sell the guns, pick up some coke, take it to my girlfriend's to cut, get laid, go back home and finish and eat the dinner, hide the coke, take my mule to Rockaway to get a hat, then get arrested for said coke, have my in-laws bail me out of jail with their mortgage. How about you? Anybody?

  • @nellgwen48

With respect, and since you asked, no thanks.

I'd rather imagine the song as Harry wrote it for whatever reason he had. Not as part of a movie soundtrack.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @nellgwen48 Almost right, I wouldn't drive that bitch all the way there for a hat though :)

  • @laneyboy5 Geeze what a day even if you don't go to Rockaway.

  • @nellgwen48 Totally

  • can i give this the thumbs up 100 times? super tune from back then it still rocks, what a gifted singer and musican he was.....his range of songs is amazing..

  • I think Harry was very underated

  • Jump into the Fire, Great song.

    Goodfellas, Great movie.

    He's my hero...

    Awesome Bass and Drums...

    He's my hero...

  • looks like he.s holding a pipe?

  • @funeguy2 yes, he is holding an old fashioned wooden pipe that was popular in the day.

  • @cheetahtree Wake and bake, Harry? (hehe)

  • @funeguy2

    Agree the original 420 days,great times !

  • @funeguy2 He definately is.

  • @funeguy2 it's a hash/pot pipe.... silly kids....

  • @funeguy2 It's a hash pipe.

  • @funeguy2 He IS holding a pipe. Can you guess what's in it? LOL

  • How is it The Red Hot Chili Peppers haven't covered this? I'd love to hear Flea on this one.

  • is it one of soundtrack songs of the girl next door???

  • @secondlightful Yup, it's in the scene where she makes him strip in the middle of the road. ;)

  • Had this on 8 trac! Still have it on casettte! Want the CD! Or download!

  • You wanna see helicopters? I'll show you helicopters! *offers coke on a tray*

  • @Cookster5 Geeze what a day. And my mom thinks she's busy. I couldn't even do all that if I wanted to.

  • This wasn't as big of a hit as Without You or Coconut, because for radio, it was cut right after Nilsson's vocal ended. To truly appreciate it, you have to hear the whole version and hear how Richard Perry wove the instruments in and out of this piece. In 1971 most rock was played on AM radio and songs had to be kept around 3 minutes.

  • freakin feds chasin henry hill in the helicopter haha

  • Harry Nilsson was a genius. John Lennon and Ringo were both fans and friends of Nilsson.

He was also one of the best vocalists in the business and he could write different genres and styles with such creativity. A great talent who is sadly missed!!

  • @forgetitohio i used to have the album too, don't know what happened to it. i loved this song. can't find it so don't smoke it. but would if i could.

  • @cheetahtree you really need to get more!!!

  • @cheetahtree You're not looking hard enough!

  • I will never forget watching the movie The Point on LSD it was so intense. I especially loved Me and My Arrow

  • simply perfect.

  • now if you want to blow out some eardrums while driving with the bass turned right up then this is real music to play !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is everybody ready to learn how to play Bass?!

  • This had to be one of my favorites growin up....back when Led Zeppelin ..The Beattle..and JimI Hendrix weas still makin albums...yes ALBUMS

  • What great drums and bassline. Gotta love it.

  • Why is it that every time i hear incredible ba
