This movie isn't a horror movie. It's a movie about making a boy who's afraid of just about everything face his fears, and realize that there are worse things than getting hurt from climbing ladders and other things. Sure, everything that happens in the animated world attempts to hurt him, but he never ends up getting hurt, does he. If it was a horror movie, of course he'd get hurt. It'd be the perfect way to have him be stuck as an illustration in a animated world longer.

Actually this was my favorite part of the movie when I was young. I really had a thing for dragons and the whole sequence was superb! It's one of those movies that actually does a good job getting kid's to be aware of books. Certainly more effective than having to assign idiotic book reports. It's one of those movies that's not a classic but is enrapturing for kids and still fun for anyone older.

I never got me hands on the book myself but I have seen it from time to time here and there. To be honest this format makes more sense. This movie can encourage someone to read a book. Although then its a matter of finding something worth reading and that's a whole other fish.
