  • The video doesnt show us how the aux cabel got there, so could you describe what to do to get it there? Would be nice.

  • HOW

  • hehehe, i know electrics but i never thought of that :D didn`t see the woods for all the trees i guess, nice one, will do that soon :)

  • u can buy them like that !

  • Performance E36ers can start with a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. It can add up to 11HP for only about $150 and installs in 30-45 minutes - really a must for every E36 owner. It also makes the car HOWL at high end but sounds normal at everyday driving. See my videos!

    -Adds 9-11 HP

    -Never replace filter again (K&N)

    -GREAT SOUND

  • Why can't you just fucking talk you TWAT!?

  • hey you guys i was wondering if this improves the quality better than the cassette adaptor? and by that i mean: I have a 12' sub and amp on the car and when I listen to my music with nice bass on it, it sounds really bad when I put the volume up. I thought it was my bass or amp but i tried it on a stereo with built in RCA jacks, and it sounded beautiful. will this mod eliminate all that distortion I hear when I play my music?

  • I said its not going to make a difference dude, can you really percept "clearer" sound? Its not like the car has a hi-fi set up. Its a waste of time.

  • @TheReasonableLogic Yes, I would consider myself a novice audiophile who can definitely perceive subtle difference in audible discrepancy. Its a signal difference similar to using a LOC somewhere in path instead of a dedicated RCA pre-amp output for an external device. But yes it would easily be discriminable side by side sorry. No offense but people like you are the reason mp3's got so popular and will be the death of good quality music. Have you heard a .flac file vs. mp3 of the same track?

  • @SlickmisterN

How can you judge without knowing? I'm 18, I produce, I don't like digital format. I still run my tracks out to my old 4track and just play tapes in the car, and at home I got vinyl, digital audio is digital audio, its no where near the fidelity of analogue, thats why I said its not really a difference, especially if your in a car. Believe me I got "good ears" too.

  • You know that this "mod" is redundant right? You could just buy a tape with a jack already installed for 20bucks are radio shack. Just put it in connect your device and voila. Thats it.

20bucks no labor and no potential damage to the factory unit.

  • @TheReasonableLogic Uh no it it not, as with this modified setup you are bypassing the 11+ year old tape reading heads, outdated audio processors, and the tape converter by getting signal directly from either the mainboard or tape leads. It is a MUCH cleaner and direct signal path... infinitely better sound quality than just a tape converter.

  • @SlickmisterN

Dude its the same thing, its all digital audio. 44.1khz 16 bit, its not going to make a difference cause its the same compressed format going through the same stock amplification process. Its a waste of time.

  • @TheReasonableLogic Nope, think about it. You are entering a signal beyond any processing unit. Tell me how using magnetic tape, the physical heads to read it, and a signal processor converting analog to digital signal (like you said) and finally sending it to the amp is the same as JUST SENDING IT TO THE AMP??? Sorry you are clueless.

  • I have a 2001 E39 with the Reverse head unit. Can you tell me how can I apply this mod ? I can open the radio and remove the tape deck but I have no clue where are the left, right and ground points in the printed ciscuit board. My headunit is made by Becker. Thanks for any help.

  • what you need

    a Kenwood IP200 adapter

a generic 12v to USB charger (cheap one)

    a female 1/4 stereo adapter

complete your mod using 1/4 female adaper locate outside the head unit on the back

USB adaper - cut off the part that goes into the lighter socket connect the + and - to the existing lighter there is plenty of room in the cavity to mount the adapter

Route the wires for the IP200 1/4 male plug to back of deck, USB to the female USB adapter.

    Plug and Play!

  • that would work if I could get a fully functional cigarette lighter afterwards (need it for cell phone charger/GPS) If I cant do that, the hunt for +5v on the radio board begins. my plan is to have both ipod dock and 1/4" due to not every mp3 player being an iPod - I've also got a MAKE:daisy that I built myself

the kenwood+usb charger would add quite a bit of cash to the project, but probably worth it. if you do any work, tell me, i'll let you know if find 5v

jcrowell . info <email on the site

  • I ran a hardwire for my cell phone/GPS Unit (they both have the same connector luckily). I used power from the Pre-wired Phone under the arm-rest and drilled a small hole in my double cup holder assembly so the connector comes out in that tray which is a great place for both the cell phone & GPS, Frees up the 12v charger!

  • Thanx man... I didn't even thing of that, it works like a charm and I get to keep my CD changer.

You just saved me 400 bucks!!!!!!!

Now just have to clean it up and figure a way to add a charger to it.

    d

  • its my brother's mod - he just got a 318Ti, so he's going to mod it. He is planning a dock in the ashtray, just needs to find where to pull the +5v from - time to get out the multimeter!

  • How? What about quality? Is it ok?

  • quality is good
