I saw King Crimson in Quebec city each time they came in the 70's.
The band I prefer was the one with Mel Collins on saxos. But everytime, it had been great shows.
The 21st version I prefer is on the black record called Eathbound, even if sound is digustfull. The energy on that version, and the sax solo, how good it is. That was the way we played it when we were in the 18- 20 years old. I do play saxos and we were fans. Did you hear the jazz version of it, played by the Crimson Jazz Trio ?
@unknownkingdom I hardly see how that is true all their early albums are amazing In The Court, In The Wake, Lizard, Islands, Lark's Tongues and Aspics, Starless and Bible Black, and Red. That is 7 right there then there's their comeback after Robert Fripp officially brokeup the band, and they made Discipline which I would put on the exact same level as many of their classics, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair great! NONE of their live albums are bad tons of Improvs almost none of the different
versions of the same songs even sound the same how many live albums do they have if you count them all probably over 20??? Then there is Vroom, Thrak, Happy with What you have to be Happy with, The ConstruKction of Light, and The Power To Believe all GREAT definitely not 5 decent albums.
@jimthewineguy I think I would have to give most underrated to Zappa, and the Captain, but Robert Fripp is also one of them along with ALL members of Gentle Giant and many other Prog bands.
@jimthewineguy I think Peter Hammill, and Robert Fripp are both the two most under-looked of the progressive movement. Sure there are plenty of others that are completely unheard of, but these guys DESERVED it much more. I can only imagine what they could have accomplished if Fripp, and Hammill did a recording entirely together, not just a few collaborations here and there.
Fripp referred to Bruford & Wetton as a Flying Brick Wall. I think he came up with that right after this performance. Perfect description of those 2

The intercation between Bruford and Wetton is stunning!

Simply a monstrous performance of that song. The climax of Cross's violin solo still gives me chills after 25 years of listening to it.

I was lucky enough to see them once in 1973 and again in 1974 with this version of the band. They were terrific and Wetton and Fripp were incredible.

@Unknownkingdom even if that were true, 4or 5 is 4 or 5 more than most bands ever get.

@OnslaughtOverture Because they only have four, maybe 5 decent albums. Most of them are awful.

King Crimson were underrated pioneers. Having been raised on a musical diet of prog rock... I love this recording to pieces. Fantastic.

I can't believe the nerve of King Crimson!
Stealing a tune from Kanye West even before he was born?!?
(to the uninformed - watch this megalomanic but intresting vid to the end. You'll see what I mean: youtube.com/watch?v=L53gjP-TtGE&ob=av2e )

Yes, that's Wetton, with Bruford and Cross, of course. The best KC ever, IMHO.

@jimthewineguy Yeah he made #42 in RS' stupid "best guitarists" list. He should have been at #1. He's a genius.
