@KayC2SLO you're right.that kid is so retarded We all know the even the 5a-8a engines didn't even reach 200 hp. Even though the silver top tuned by TRD could top out around 240 hp it wasn't legal in the a streets and was only used in the fictional initial d and one actual person
@Anoush13 all japanese makers can, but they have a problem, due to some japanese cars regulations, the cant make cars with high CO 2 emisions, etc etc, thats why almost all jap sports cars are v4-v6, anyway, with a v6 engine, the GT-R can Beat a V10 M3 or R8, Ferrari 599 and some others cars.

They should've just got the blueprints out for the AE-86 and just build it again. Except this time with stability and traction control that can be turned fully of just so you can drift and ect. Still needs esc cause rain + people who thinks skidding on a surface is dangerous=sue toyota for a car that can drift
They took the sound from the original 4A-GE and used it for this video. It is like the honda b16, you can tell it apart from any other engine in the world (stock trim of course)

@adulby Actually I feel the same. My favorite Japanese super car would be the 370z, and GT-R is rubbish in my mind. I own a Japanese car, so I'm not saying I don't like them, just their super cars have no style.

@alexlam24 stupid idiot, that has nothing to do with the fact that the 4a-ge is the generalization of the line of engines. the strongest STOCK 4a [in the corolla line] is the 20v blacktop which came in the ae111s which were fwd. fucking get your facts right bastard

Basically a rwd celica. Very dissapointed at Toyota. I mean a sport car with 200hp isn't really a sport car. Toyota has gone backward so bad. They should just come back with the 98 supra 2jz with improve interior, now that's what I call sport car.
@Plisken1986 and that's something i'm afraid of. ): but another thing that comes to mind is.. subaru will no longer be the only manufacturer to feature a full 4wd line of vehicles if/when they release the toyobaru under their name to us domestic residents... that = </3
i love the original AE86...this new FT86 needs to die an all the consepts an blue prints an shit except for the original ae86 blueprints an they should built the AE86 again an call it that....then ppl would run back to toyota...oh an fiz that pedal problem...like run various...i mean VARIOUS test before you realse it lol
theres alot of sr5s on craigslist. make sure you get a gts or you will be very sorry. to make sure its a gts, a good signal is the engine. if its SOHC carberated run. if its twin cam then ur probably good to go
I reckon this car looks awesome. This is obviously trying to be the new AE86, to revive a cult car for Toyota.
The engine is a subaru boxter engine (similar to a WRX) This is because Toyota is the majority share holder in Subaru now.
FT-86 is still early concept, but I wonder if it will be released for sale before Gran Turismo 5. About time they stop mucking around and get this game on the shelves
yea true but they are re inventing a hero car for them. much like any american manufacturer these days. at least they made it look different instead of making the same car look modern and thinking its totally different
No,it is a hero car. They are not reinventing the Celica, they are reinventing the Trueno Sprinter AE86 aka Toyota Corolla GTS in america. The thing is, even though it may not have much power(well I have no idea of the specs) of a fairlady, that means the 0-60, it has all great FR advantages.
When this car hits the market, toyota's going to make some serious money, if nothing goes wrong.
as reck101101 said, it isnt the celica they are reinventing. its the AE-86 Sprinter corolla. i dont know why people are saying this is a new celica when clearly the 86 means corolla. and im sure that if toyota saw a market in building a car that would compete in the same class as the 370 they would. and yes the camaro looks modern like i said. much like the new challenger. but dodge ane chevrolet think they have created a totally different car with a few basic hints at the old. which they havent
It is true, in the US market they have considered naming the Celica. lets just hope it keeps the name of the corolla since i dont that name at all. but if its a celica i wont think twice about buying it since im a picky hoe.
Its called an FT-86 for a reason. Its the successor to the Original AE-86.. So naming it celica or making it AWD might be out of the question.. Unless its not going to have the "86" designation.
its a boxer engine. i read in top gear that there might be a ft-86 turbo version. but toyota has not leaked any details. so far it will be a small, drifter, and surprisingly good enough for rally. but who knows, i hope they have a turbo AWD. good news it's suppose to be under 20,000$.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That boxer engine is enought since the car never rely on hoursepower but on it's torque. For those that have no clue watz torque, use a dictionary. As long as this car is lightweight and pushes 250hp that's all that matters
this is a concept but its been lookin the same for like i think 2yrs now i heard they were remakin the supra and basicaally thats what its suppose to be basically but anyway looks awesome hoppefully i can pull 20000$ for this baby
To make this car, they took the look from the FT-HS( future toyota hybrid sport) and the the lexus IS-F...soo pretty but they have to put in a l6 twin turbo...same as supra...that will rocks soo much!
Looks pretty dope but I think they canned the FT-Sh concept car for this. I THINK, I'm not sure. But I think this is pretty sick. I also hear there's no turbo version in the U.S. lame, but I'm still gonna get one :P
they canned the ft-hs to this yeah and its probably only gonna cost around 20000usd thats quite a nice price for a car like that...but i liked the looks and "feel" about the ft-hs more
should be since they've discontinued the supra. I also hope they don't put a stupid S badge on it. We've all seen a Corolla S, and it doesn't stand for Sport; more like Spoiler, which is really the only difference between the S and the LE/CE.
I have to agree with JoshuaBlaziken. Toyota spent all this time after discontinuing the supra and THIS is all they came up with? Another damn four cylinder engine car? Granted, its has a subaru engine, but from what I've read its supposed to produce only 170 horsepower, which is the same as the corolla XRS. I only hope that toyota grows a pair, and puts a V6 in this thing if it hits production. Toyota's kept us waiting too damn long for something that actually represents what a sports car
omfg takumi tax will be the ruin of this production car.. such a shame they felt they needed to name the concept after the AE86 which was, really, a basic standard small family people mover..
it's a shame they needed to? Toyota is proud of their AE-86 corolla and chassis and what it meant for regular people as well as enthusiasts. that's why they use the 86 moniker.
How is it that were watching a video if a game and a car and suddenly theres a domestics vs. import battle? What you all fail to realize is that each car is built basically for the conditions, in japan narrow roads lots of turns, in turn cars with great handling and good efficiency, In Europe, more room but still twisty, n turn cars with lots of power but still small and handle well, America Wide open Spaces,Big cars with high hp but no so well on the handling side, this is talking STOCK
Sure any car can be made to do anything with money time and determination. I'm not taking sides i drive all of them, i have a 90 Chevy sport truck sitting in my driveway right next to an over-boosted mini cooper s next to a s14 240, check my vids, what can i tell you? There all great cars they have all lasted and i drive them hard, course my tires don't appreciate that but thats something u sacrifice
considering that the mustang got almost next to identical skid pad and slalom results I doubt that american cars handle bad. Sure, they may not be as great as the japs in handling, but that is definitely do to weight issues. Still greats cars come from both sides
Yea but its only recently that american cars have started to up the handling side of things, Your right it is mostly due to weight, but im lookin at like a 95 camaro stock vs a stock 95 240sx, the camaro will take it in the straight any corners and its all 240sx, Just the mind set american have had we want big power loud engine, Japanese are more technical it has to work and be efficient. I can appreciate any car be it an old rat rod a ferrari or a a ae86. They all do what there built for!!
You fuckholes! The reason why american cars dont sell is because there are aloy of smart people in this country. Now why will i buy a effin camaro that looks like ass if i can buy this awsome boxer engine car? Sure you can pick up white chix with a camaro but ill be the one tailing you when your car breaks down.
Yea Forsha your comment makes no sense, you can pick up "white chix" in any car that looks nice, unless they got a thing for camaros, and why would be tailing him when he breaks down? American cars arent built weak, Yea the boxer engine is more effective, but it doesnt make it a better car then a camaro. And calling people names on youtube only goes to show Your arrogance.
I would buy this car if it was under Lexus tag :) but the price should stay at around $20000 (it's announced) and not $70000 like the rest of the Lexus'
Hmm.... flaming aside. Looks good bit sounds a little off. I think Polyphony Digital may need to do a little more homework on the engine sound. Still sounds like a 4AG-E. There's no way a 2.0L boxter would sound anything like that, should sound more like a WRX.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Viper, Corvette, Trans Am, Mustang, Challenger, Chevelle, Charger, Camaro, GTO, Hemi-Cuda. Just to name a few. What history of bad ass cars do the japs have? Subaru? Ha! That's pussy shit.
are u ignorant or just plain stupid... Drifting was invented by the Japanese... on the mountains, which I assume you would understand to be "big hills" using the same 4 cylinder cars you mentioned. American cars are loud and waste gas, that's about it man. And dude, Asian cars last a hell of a long time, which is why there are so many 15+ year older used Japanese cars being imported daily.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Drifting was not an invention retard. American muscle cars drift way better than jap cars, and you need to stop watching Fast and Furious movies and learn something about cars. You can't start a sentence with and dumb ass. Asian cars can't last for shit unless you really maintain them, American cars do, and that is why you see 40- 50 year old cars driving around every day, and hell yeah they are loud, if I want a fuel efficient car i will drive a fucking Jetta or something.
your first sentence isn't a proper sentence either... retard. American cars can't do shit but make the driver look like a 50 year old that wants to be young again. Oddly enough the new camaro was designed my a korean, and I notice you listed that in ur list of american beauties. haha. Asian cars are cheaper, many are nicely designed, they have a huge after market support, and they're just plain reliable. American cars... are great if you have money to burn. and I'm not a fast and furious kid.
American cars can't do shit? We got the fastest production car in the world right now The Camaro was not designed by a Korean, maybe the body, but it's all American where it counts. Asian cars really aren't that inexpensive, and the ones that are will only last you a couple of years. Again, how many 20,30,40, or 50 year old Asian cars do you see driving around? I'm not even talking about sports cars, just any kind of car.
Well no shit you won't see 30+ cars normally yet. Look at when import vehicles started seeing favourable sales. It hasn't been that long yet, but still I see 20+ year old corollas, 180sx, accords, etc. all the time. And your forgetting German (BMW and Mercedes) and other imports as well like volvo which is the sturdiest make. American muscle is a cool breed of car to own i'll admit but in terms of reliability and practicality, they can't stand up.
Okay, well I am not saying that muscle cars are practical. I'm saying that muscle cars kick jap cars asses. Maybe if you're some poor mexican kid or something, I could see getting some cheap ass Honda Civic or something, you'll just have to worry about it breaking down every two months.
American muscle as in sports car are unreliable and not practical? O Man that just took away all your credibility when you said that. Japanese sport cars are just as bad as American sport cars in reliability. What Japanese sport cars have you seen up and running that hasn't been babied or rebuilt? Same with American muscle cars. American V6 sports cars may not beat 30k+ jap cars, but look at our fuel consumption compared to japs V6 sports.
imagine this to a beutiful car:GO CRASH BOOM! that is whut i did to a porsche in dis game >:D

theres alot of sr5s on craigslist. make sure you get a gts or you will be very sorry. to make sure its a gts, a good signal is the engine. if its SOHC carberated run. if its twin cam then ur probably good to go

Another "sportser" that ma go 0-60 in 6 seconds or so... I LOVE Toyota, but,
How about a REAL high performance car instead of another sports roaster. Too many Roadsters already!
Hyundai Genesis, Mitsubishi eclipse, pontiac solstice, saturn sky (plenty of used + new ones are available still) Scoin TC coupe (v6), Cobalt SS, MazdaSpeed3, VW GTI...
How about a REAL performance car Toyota!!!

What Hero Car? The Celica?
Celica had poor sales, and more Mustangs were sold than Celica in any given year. IMO the 2010 Camaro is very modern looking.
How about Toyota gets a car that will compete with the 370z, and do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds.
ff8123 2 years ago
No,it is a hero car. They are not reinventing the Celica, they are reinventing the Trueno Sprinter AE86 aka Toyota Corolla GTS in america. The thing is, even though it may not have much power(well I have no idea of the specs) of a fairlady, that means the 0-60, it has all great FR advantages.
When this car hits the market, toyota's going to make some serious money, if nothing goes wrong.
reck101101 2 years ago
Trueno was indeed an amazing car.
ff8123 2 years ago 2
as reck101101 said, it isnt the celica they are reinventing. its the AE-86 Sprinter corolla. i dont know why people are saying this is a new celica when clearly the 86 means corolla. and im sure that if toyota saw a market in building a car that would compete in the same class as the 370 they would. and yes the camaro looks modern like i said. much like the new challenger. but dodge ane chevrolet think they have created a totally different car with a few basic hints at the old. which they havent
biggestsubiefan98 2 years ago
thats not the point.
this is a car for everyone at 20,000
rantarave 2 years ago

That boxer engine is enought since the car never rely on hoursepower but on it's torque. For those that have no clue watz torque, use a dictionary. As long as this car is lightweight and pushes 250hp that's all that matters

should be since they've discontinued the supra. I also hope they don't put a stupid S badge on it. We've all seen a Corolla S, and it doesn't stand for Sport; more like Spoiler, which is really the only difference between the S and the LE/CE.
Balmung 2 years ago
The lexus LFA is what they came up with.
Mark0XO 2 years ago

What you all fail to realize is that each car is built basically for the conditions, in japan narrow roads lots of turns, in turn cars with great handling and good efficiency, In Europe, more room but still twisty, n turn cars with lots of power but still small and handle well, America Wide open Spaces,Big cars with high hp but no so well on the handling side, this is talking STOCK
red350z 2 years ago
Sure any car can be made to do anything with money time and determination. I'm not taking sides i drive all of them, i have a 90 Chevy sport truck sitting in my driveway right next to an over-boosted mini cooper s next to a s14 240, check my vids, what can i tell you? There all great cars they have all lasted and i drive them hard, course my tires don't appreciate that but thats something u sacrifice
red350z 2 years ago
considering that the mustang got almost next to identical skid pad and slalom results I doubt that american cars handle bad. Sure, they may not be as great as the japs in handling, but that is definitely do to weight issues. Still greats cars come from both sides
Texarmageddon 2 years ago
Yea but its only recently that american cars have started to up the handling side of things, Your right it is mostly due to weight, but im lookin at like a 95 camaro stock vs a stock 95 240sx, the camaro will take it in the straight any corners and its all 240sx, Just the mind set american have had we want big power loud engine, Japanese are more technical it has to work and be efficient. I can appreciate any car be it an old rat rod a ferrari or a a ae86. They all do what there built for!!
red350z 2 years ago
86 vs 86!
sebological 2 years ago
You fuckholes! The reason why american cars dont sell is because there are aloy of smart people in this country. Now why will i buy a effin camaro that looks like ass if i can buy this awsome boxer engine car? Sure you can pick up white chix with a camaro but ill be the one tailing you when your car breaks down.
forsha 2 years ago
????? Smart people in what country, because if you say america I am appalled at such ignorance.
Texarmageddon 2 years ago
Yea Forsha your comment makes no sense, you can pick up "white chix" in any car that looks nice, unless they got a thing for camaros, and why would be tailing him when he breaks down? American cars arent built weak, Yea the boxer engine is more effective, but it doesnt make it a better car then a camaro. And calling people names on youtube only goes to show Your arrogance.

Hmm.... flaming aside. Looks good bit sounds a little off. I think Polyphony Digital may need to do a little more homework on the engine sound. Still sounds like a 4AG-E. There's no way a 2.0L boxter would sound anything like that, should sound more like a WRX.

How the fuck can you call this thing pretty? IT'S HIDEOUS! It already sounds bad with that torqueless 4 banger you find on a corolla.

JasonJiYongPark 2 years ago
Yeah, you say that because you can't think of any good jap cars. They're all little piece of crap 4 cyl. cars that can barely make it up a hill.
farnsworth14 2 years ago
are u ignorant or just plain stupid...
JasonJiYongPark 2 years ago 6
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Drifting was not an invention retard. American muscle cars drift way better than jap cars, and you need to stop watching Fast and Furious movies and learn something about cars. You can't start a sentence with and dumb ass. Asian cars can't last for shit unless you really maintain them, American cars do, and that is why you see 40- 50 year old cars driving around every day, and hell yeah they are loud, if I want a fuel efficient car i will drive a fucking Jetta or something.
farnsworth14 2 years ago
your first sentence isn't a proper sentence either...
JasonJiYongPark 2 years ago 4
American cars can't do shit? We got the fastest production car in the world right now The Camaro was not designed by a Korean, maybe the body, but it's all American where it counts. Asian cars really aren't that inexpensive, and the ones that are will only last you a couple of years. Again, how many 20,30,40, or 50 year old Asian cars do you see driving around? I'm not even talking about sports cars, just any kind of car.
farnsworth14 2 years ago
Well no shit you won't see 30+ cars normally yet. Look at when import vehicles started seeing favourable sales. It hasn't been that long yet, but still I see 20+ year old corollas, 180sx, accords, etc. all the time. And your forgetting German (BMW and Mercedes) and other imports as well like volvo which is the sturdiest make. American muscle is a cool breed of car to own i'll admit but in terms of reliability and practicality, they can't stand up.
JasonJiYongPark 2 years ago 3
Okay, well I am not saying that muscle cars are practical. I'm saying that muscle cars kick jap cars asses. Maybe if you're some poor mexican kid or something, I could see getting some cheap ass Honda Civic or something, you'll just have to worry about it breaking down every two months.
farnsworth14 2 years ago
American muscle as in sports car are unreliable and not practical? O Man that just took away all your credibility when you said that. Japanese sport cars are just as bad as American sport cars in reliability. What Japanese sport cars have you seen up and running that hasn't been babied or rebuilt? Same with American muscle cars. American V6 sports cars may not beat 30k+ jap cars, but look at our fuel consumption compared to japs V6 sports.
