I was a teenager in the 60's and I remember this song as a hit record. I had it on 45rpm but my copy came from the radio station as it was a demo. The emotion is the thing about her voice that grabbed me and it never let me go until the last note.
Wayne Newton recorded an English version of the song in the early sixties. But I must admit that I prefer Rita's version. There's emotion that's typically Italian. I believe that she recorded the English version in New York with a new orchestration different for her original Italian/French recordings.
Have to say that Rita is unique and outstanding BUT this is her only english version that really works for me !! "You Only You" and "Remember Me" just lose it in the translation. Thanks for all your other great Rita postings tho !
So lovely to hear this again, she has a superb voice. It strangely (even allowing for the British masses having poor musical tastes) only reached the lower top 30 in the UK & to my knowledge it's never been played on the radio since. Loved the fun flip side 'The Man Who Makes The Music' as well.

What a shame it only made only #27 in the UK but it had a 12 week chart stay.

Probably because It was written by Cynthia Weill so I assume these are the original lyrics rather than a translation of an Italian song.
