some great preformances by future tv preformers.......Tom Selleck...Magnum PI.......Eric Estrada...CHiPs......Steve Kanaly....Dallas.........Pat Morita...Karate Kid...Happy Days.......Robert Ito....Quince ME....precursor to CSI............lol
Well, the movie lost about 34 minutes in the Universal's Collector's edition. This movie is great in its entire runtime. It cuts out the Coral Sea operation and a lot of other small bits that kind of leaves the screenplay hanging. The cast is phenominal, the soundtrack is great, and its historically accurate. Not to mention the Doolittle opening is very captivating. Yes, it used a lot of stock footage, but so did ALOT of WWII films in this decade and three decades previous. So, don't be hatin!
@UKkid19 Yes, good movie even with its faults. I enjoy the Churchill quote at the end. Thanks for wanting to care about these men as a teenager in this day and age... Greetings from Virginia home of the Norfolk Naval base..
@UKkid19 just a lot of stock footage of the pacific war... wrong planes ect... the movie was done on the cheap, using a lot of footage from a much greater movie " Tora, Tora, Tora"
The cast is great but the movie is down right terrible. An aircraft took off from the flight deck of a carrier as a single engine plane, then flied as a twin engine flying boat and returned to the carrier as a single engine plane again. What!!! David Copperfield was in the Navy?
And a US pilot dating a Jap girl in those days? The producer was simply out of his mind.
@barrhavener Agreed about the footage but given the population of Hawaii a romance between a Navy Aviator and a Nisei girl was not out of the realm of possibility, especially as it had predated the outbreak of the war.
not a bad movie. Just not a very good one. There is about 15 mins and whole story line that could have been cut and nothing would have been lost. The basic rule is anything that does not add to the story takes away from it.
A good piece of music. I actually own the soundtrack of this movie on CD. It is real hard to find and if you do find it, you will probably pay a good penny for it!
Not one of John Williams better themes. Sounds like something he knocked off on a spare Tuesday afternoon.
I think the reason why they ended up using stock footage and bits from Tora, Tora, Tora was that they ran out of money because they had a very high profile and expensive cast to pay.
In my opinion i thought this movie did an AWESOME job considering all the both 'REAL' stock footage and 'TORA TORA TORA' rehashed footage. I just didnt think they needed to kill Ol' Charlton Heston at the end, his death was kinda POINTLESS.
At any rate we have to understand though TORA TORA TORA was HUGELY ENORMOUSLY ACCURATE, it flunked at the box office because it was a movie about OUR DEFEAT.
MIDWAY was the Hollywood attempt to redeem itself with our VICTORY in the Pacific.
Since it's named "The Midway March" and it's played at the end of the movie "Midway", and Patton was half a world away at the time, I'd say Madiritoso45 is a bit confused.
incorrect it is the theme from midway i watched it hundreds of times..it does sound a little like the patton theme..john williams did midway and jerry goldsmith did patton
i never get tired of listening to this music

I think it was the day after they stopped filming this movie that Hollywood forgot how to make a proper war movie.
VictorLepanto 4 months ago
@VictorLepanto Yeah it's all glory and adventure, none of which exists in a war. Ok it can be gritty and brutal but they focas on stupid stuff.
