i truly respect chris and he and i are a lot a like i spent 5 years hitchhiking canada and have spent 3 months in the wild aka no mans land ultimate freedom i made some travel videos check em out on my page
Lessons I learned from his journey: 1- "Happiness is only real when shared" 2- "when you forgive, you love. And when you love, God's light shines through you" 3- He inspired me to ACT upon my own passion rather than just COMPLAIN (e.g. instead of complaining about his desire to detach himself from materialism; he burn his money!, abounded his car!, and society !!! ) 4- He may not have the chance to apply those lessons because of his death; but the chance is in our hand
I DON'T think that Alex was stupid at all. In my tastes, I HATE the cold (upstate NY, baby) and would NEVER want to go on an Alaskan adventure. so basically something he loved ended up being his end, and his story is inspiring no matter WHAT.
I'd rather have something I love ending up being my end than cancer or sth like that. So he was smart for doing what he wanted to do. How many people have the guts to do whatever the fuck they want?! almost none.
i love kristen stewart!! haha she plays bella in twilight! dont yell at me cause i know this movie isnt twilight!!! omg were can i find this movie!! will some one please upload it!!! it looks soooooo good!! haha lol =P!!!
I just had to read this book for english class... it was great and very eye opening. I cannot even begin to understand how people think that he died from ignorance and arrogance, i personally think Chris McCandless ( Alexander Supertramp) was a brilliant man that more people should aspire to be like.
CONTINUED - He was looking to move beyond society so he could make a deeper connection with himself. That was evident in the journal readings he left behind. All sorts of people do this from mountaineers, to monks. Young, idelaistic, and full of bravado he was, a fool he was not. And he found something invaluable in himself, and so, his life was not a waste.
I like both of ur comments. They are very accurate. Everyone should search themselves, discover what kind of person they truly are and find what is worth living for.
I doubt most any of the people replying in these texts have spent two weeks alone in the wild, let alone 100 days in Alaska. Alex died not from being a fool, but being poisoned a mold that was on a plant he was eating. The poisoning didn't allow his body to absorb nutrients from his food intake, and he, in a nutshell starved to death, (though this was secondary). He was someone looking for something besides the glint of neon and insanity we call normal.
fool? you sit in ur home probly living up to nothing great in life, while thinking that its ok to judge somone based on a movie that you watched about him. this man was greatness that is unexplainable and you never take a single risk in your life hideing from the greatness around you, and you call him a fool?!

He toootally deserves to die! i mean come on who thinks they can actually go out into the wild with no supplies and expect to live? especially in Alaska.
He was an idiot. He wasn't prepared. He had no map or compass. If he would have had a map he would've known that a hand-operated tram crossed the impassable river 1/4 mile from where he attempted to cross it. A 22 cal rifle is a pea shooter and definitely not the weapon of choice for an alaska outing. Stupidity shouldn't be celebrated. If he had a good map he could've walked out of there. I feel bad for his family and loss of life...
I partially agree with you. He was defenatly mal-equipt and had no idea what he was doing. However I think his story is inspirational, but he really could have used some common sense, or at least bring a map.
I just heard about this man Christopher McCandless's life not more than 3 weeks ago. I've been planning the same thing for years, and for the same reasons. I wish he would have done more research / preparation, he very well may have survived. I've been researching survival skills for over 7 years now and am planning on being very well prepared before I set out. this movie was an inspiration to me. I wish I could have met the man.
He was a bright young man and was well awared of the hard land he was going into. The thing was, he didnt want a map, he didnt want more than what the surrounding offered him. Its true he could have lived longer. He would have had. But then again, he wanted the easiest way of life without equipment. Its just sad he died. I would love to meet him. I believe he is up in heaven now with God.
That's a very good point from varfordogjesus. The whole point of his trip was to get away from society and rely ONLY on himself. To "test himself in the most antient of human conditions". Being over-prepared with equipement would have made the journey more false for him.
Non può avere nomination, sean Penn fa parte del cinema indipendente, ed è letteralmente odiato dalle Major, meritava l'oscar anche con "michiamo sam".

Not big, but not small either :) It's not like she's 20 seconds on screen or something. More like 20 minutes I think.
