  • @nice80sboy I agree, apparently, the only IOC Member missing from these games was Afghanistan, and the only reason that was was because of.... War. So whenever there's another war, show them this!

  • Amazing voice... And true courage to get up there and sing that well in front of millions of people!!!!

  • @mrpuddlepot so do I I go to her dance school

  • So heart touching. Beautifully performed

  • My God!!! I love the Olympic Games, especially the openings :) It's sooo emotional...why can't the world live in peace and freedom?? If we take a look at those international ceremonies where all nations come together, it's a big shame that we can't live like that in every day of our live :(

  • I remember the NBC commentators saying that Nikki's parents had no idea that she was performing at the Olympic opening ceremonies...it was a total surprise when they turned on the TV and there she was. I don't remember exactly how they arranged it, but apparently they worked out the details pretty well! ;)

  • man i remember this she became my idol!

  • i live in australia still cold at night

  • i love 2:40

  • i noe nikki webster!!!!

  • Sydney undoutdedly delivered the best, most joyous olympics ever. It revitalised a somewhat tired sporting format and relaunched it with a carefree youthful exhuberence, which really came across on TV. A brave girl to be raised to the top of the stadium on a thin pole in high winds. After the computer glitches which beset the cauldron lighting I'd have been demanding danger money!

  • she must COLD

  • @MissLondonLook It's Australia, i doubt it.

  • i was teary-eyed watching the children of atlanta sing the power of the dream in the 1996 atlanta games. this one was no different. :') i love the olympic games.

  • exactly one year later 9/11 occured oh the irony :(

  • sydney -australia 2000 . the best games of the history i love you australia... from lima c.c PERU south america.

  • i was 11 at that time..still remember it clearly

  • @deweyta I was 5 and i'm the same :)

  • This was the most memorable part of any closing ceremony I can remember.....listen to her words people of the world.....despite all of our differences, backgrounds, ethnicity, culture, and religion.....the fact is WE ARE ONE.

  • Finally found this song! such beautiful.. I still remember we were watching this on tv when I still was 7.. X)

  • this still brings me shivers and tears.... what a moment for my generation

  • 10 years ago, I received 'her' Christmas Greetings. Sydney Olympics 2000 had concluded and i used to listen to Niki Webter's song which i recorded using stereo recorder. But something strange was to happen in that december. I received greetings from my childhood friend who moved to Australia when we were in Kindergarten. I lost a part of d envelope and lost her address. I am 23 now. I miss her a lot. She lives in Adelaide.

'Cveta', Reach out to me. Tears..

Hope this mesage brings us Together. :)

  • @0051chris Facebook my friend ;)

  • Perfect Performance!!!

  • Not? The young Nikki is like a little angel...

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like a little angel...

  • wat a lovely voice!!

  • at a lovely voice!!

  • I like her here and when she brought out her first album and second album. Now of course I like her but not her music. She really needs to work on her voice, cus it was nice to begin with and now it's horrible sadly.

  • that was beautiful

  • I consider this song the ultimate song of peace throughout the world. Its so beautiful!

  • Sydney hosted the best olympic games EVER.....

  • i saw this and i was like wow... i got to meet her in person

  • @masonprior are you retarted do you know anything about the world???

  • why can't our nation come together in peace like it did for the olympics

  • s0 beautiful s0ng, I go back 10 yrs,

    Realy nice

  • so corny ugh

  • @marrieter08 of course its corny its the olympics.. lol

  • I was only like half a year old when this happened. Mum took me to see it so I don't remember anything but I love this song.

  • She is so cute, Bring back old Nikki

  • @7166161 yeah

  • she is lip-synching because of the factors of the stadium but she's lip-synching to her own voice recording, they haven't voice-raped her with technology, she did sing exactly like that, it just wasn't live. And because that is her genuine voice, I think it's amazing.

  • this song makes me cry so much but its ironical because the song hopes that this day will bring peace to all but the world will never be in piece remind you september 11 happened a year after this

  • @xazngiirlx Yeah, how could we ever forget? Still, it is a song of HOPE.

  • Sheee awesome this girl can sing

  • Aww I Love This Soo Much! ;'( I Miss The Old Nikki Now She's Like Such A Slut Porn Magazines And All ! (N)

  • wow i remember watching this at home when i was 6 in 2000. Damn feels like yesterday i watching the closing ceremonies. Fav ceremonies of all time. =)

  • I noticed that toward the end of the song, the cauldron flame was a lot smaller, and I think it was extinguished right after she sang. Was it intentional for the flame to go down little by little?

  • Comment removed

  • The theme of this song reminds of Gloria Estafan's 'If I Could Reach' at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Especially when everyone started to lift their hands.

  • If you think of the words she is singing it makes you cry well at least it made me cry! she was so beautiful here!

  • @livi988 i was tearin up just a second ago lol

  • @Lela1275 haahaaahaa just read that then and re watched the video... crying... AGAIN!

  • I remember when i was a lil girl she was my fave singer my and my bestie saw her in Wizard of oz and her concert! they where good times but she went down hill! CMON NIKKI GET BACK UP AND BE THE GIRL U USED TO BE PLZ FOR UR FANS SAKE!

  • From a sound engineer point of view there is NO WAY she was NOT lip-syncing. It's technically impossible in a stadium environment with so many uncontrollable factors. Especially the wind up at her height. It would cause her mic to hiss like crazy.

This should put to this subject to rest. She is lip-syncing. Anyone who says otherwise does not know what they are talking about.

  • agreed. of course she is, but isn't the performance and song so magical it doesn't matter! You're completely right, the factors at a stadium of that size and her on that elevation would be technically impossible, I still love this performance. On par with her Opening Ceremony one which was also synced but beautiful!

  • @gottamatch I love this song too. Like I stated in another post, I have not problem with Lip-syncing as long as it's the original voice and not too post-processed. I cite Hilary Duff as and example, known for her overtly processed Techno-pop music/voice (disgusting).

Also that girl hoax singing at the Beijing Olympics. Not that it's the kid's fault. Prejudice Chinese organizers.

  • @ages777 I completely agree. It's awful when 'singing' is overly digitally processed isn't it lol makes us wonder why they bother pretending!

  • of course she is. Everybody at the Olympics HAD to lip-sync. Savage Garden were angry because they never lip-sync but for them to "perform" it was required they lip-sync.

  • i think this may have been lip synced.. the winds like pushing her over hses like sturrgling to stand... wouldnt she be struggling to sing too?

  • i wish that there would be another sydney olympic.

    Awesome!!!

  • Her voice is live for sure and it's wonderful. What a great performance. It makes me feel chills to see this little girl sing like that on the top of the platform. So beautiful!

  • i doubt she was lip syncing... imagine all those auditions she had to take... would the people who organised this have put Australia to shame by asking her to lip sync? i think not.... It was definitely live in my opinion.

  • i think theres chance shes lip synching that night cuz if it was just her singing live not the whole audience could hear i think its a recording but its definately her singing so like a backing vocal copy of her singing the song.

  • i cry when i think about how pretty the song and the lyrics are and how reality is still so far from it :(

  • I get goosebumps on my arms and feel tears in my eyes whenever I hear this video clip because of the innocence and hope of the lyrics of what reality is like today. Beautiful song. I love this! (Iv got a bank of tears about to burst!)

  • @fabbitypo we can just sing and dance about how we want the world to be, we have to actually get out there and do something, civil wars in places far from this type of media need our help more than our hope.

  • @fabbitypo So true. But after knowing that Bin Laden is dead and gone, the world has finally shed that dark cloud it has been under. Let's hope peace can now flurish again. Justice has been done. Peace to all mankind!

  • no nikki webster did not lip sync, she became the biggest singer in australia after that performence she has done many records she is the one singing

  • Why did the organizer place her on the pedestal and dressed her like going to Ms Universe pageant? She was 100X sweeter walking around singing in her short skirt during the opening ceremony.

  • Nikki is beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • she may have lip-synced on the night but it was definately her singing.. the actual story was that nikki was the understudy of this part and the original 'little girl' fell sick before the performance so nikki had to take over

  • Comment removed

  • Nikki was a very young girl ,who did a great job overall at the olympics

  • I remember when I first watched it, I was 9 then.

I was thrilled and forgot to record it on vhs. I was disappointed that I will never hear that again, but now is YouTube.

  • she is amazing love her voice

she is just soo perfect (:

  • I agree with Realdeal232005.

Just watching and listening this, but if u dont like this, please no bad comment are listed here....

  • great voice..

great song.. The lyrics has some a great power for spirit...

  • This Australian kid is a very good singer. Go Nikki! Im a fun of her from Phil.

  • @jaemlin Phil....lippines???

  • i'd personally freak out singing at such a height

  • Shes so young.. and her voice... it cant be hers.. its perfect

  • So many haters for no reason. If you dont like then don't watch her! So why spend time commenting something you don't like?

  • wow

  • shes so yung. beutiful voice

  • oooo i remember this sydney 2000...

  • So do I! I had hairs on the back of my neck and my spine standing up!

  • i was one of the choir kids dressed in white singing along xD good timess :/

  • wow, how on earth did you get to do that?!

  • my school is one of the greek schools in sydney and they chose some students from each of the 3 greek school to be in the choir :) we sang the national anthems and this song haha

  • mm i was there

best song - i know the people who wrote

i've met her - she is really shy - or she used to be anyway

did anyone know that john farnham was actually meant to sing it?? yeah, he was supposed to have a marching band and everything - but he was being a pain so they decided to get a child instead ..

was the best games though, truely amazing

  • i met her

  • would have been funny to see her be blown off by the wind...

  • Sydney was great !!!

Much better than the following games !!!!!

  • athens was the best

  • Sydney 2000 was most close to people. We can be conected to those day in each song, a difference to the follow games.

  • nice video!!!

  • haha i was there too! i dont rmember her in the closing ceremony thou...

  • shes heaps good hay

  • I love that song

  • how old was she there?

  • i think she was 13

  • Comment removed

  • not really.

it was a big thing, from like 23489235 girls down to her after people getting dropped and stuff.

my friend was in the final 3 with her, but the flying down from the top of the building scared her so she pulled out and then it was nikki and the other girl. and the other girl wasnt as good or something.

    yeahhh.

  • Thanks for letting me know I should of realised it would of been a big thing, you must of been very proud of your friend.

  • funny, that number is larger than the entire population of australia.

  • ever heard of exaggeration? sarcasm?

well that my little smart arse is an example above.

hope you pass year 4 soon =)!

  • i've always wished to singg in the olympics, it would be the best thing in lifee :)

    but it wont happen :(

  • i dont see how they choose people to be in things like this coz i know 11 and 12 year olds who are just as good or better than her!

  • i know but her parents probably had the money to send her to singing and dancing schools not like the ones who can really sing :(

  • Maybe she was the one who prevailed back then.

  • how old was she then

  • i think nikki was just 12 or 13 when she sang we'll be one

  • OMG SHES SO BRAVE! i would faint singing in front of so many people let alone being raise like 20 m above the ground WOW

  • wow, she was so big she sang at the olympics??? i never even knew she exgisted until my friend told me about her

  • thank god you took out that annoying announcer, a good edit job voksvictor!

  • i love this song

I am a child who has a dream too. lol

  • OMG! she was standing so high and still singing so wonderful,I am just speachless

  • OMG OMG Nikki is sooo brave! i would freak out 4 2 reasons: the audience and the height omfg i would literally lose my voice and completly forget the lyrics way to go Nikki!

  • When will the world become a peaceful and unified global village? When will people do what they sing? 1988 Soul,"Hand in Hand", has that come true? 2000 Sydney,"We'll Be One", have we? 2004 Athens,"Pass the flame, unite the world", the flame had been passed, but is the world united? 2008 Beijing,"we are family", are we family?

  • I totally agree with you. Everyone needs to put everything aside and become one. We need to respect everyones beliefs. We need to become one big family like God would want us to. (my belief so if you believe in this song you wouldn't bag me about that)

Harmony is what the world needs. Make Poverty History! The world would be much fairer and a much nicer place to live without war and racism and stuff like that

  • Don't worry at all. I am not a Christian yet I do believe there must be a "thing" which is motivating the whole world - could be god or anything.

Anyway, what I feel bad about is the contrast between what people are wishing and what the reality is - think about Russia and Georgia, think about the War in Iraq.

  • No Nikki Webster stopped singing because of the critising she got from older people, she was loved by many children like me when I was 11, she just didn't want anymore critsing..

I mean she didn't sing songs for grown ups she did it for the children and also for when she was a child.. So i dont know why many people hate her.. Shes grown up shes 21 now... Just get over it.

  • AMEN to that!

  • follow my heart

  • I forgot how pretty this song is! I only heard it while watching the CC eight years ago. What a great voice Nikki has!

  • I thought that Nikki still be a singer?

    and australian people love her?

  • No. She is a no-talent nobody now. She was popular here for a year max. Now she is exactly what dioclese said. She was a great singer and could of been a star. But she gave it away. She is terrible now

  • thanks you for your answer, but what exactly happened for her fall?

  • Well just typical failure. Didn't succeed after a while.

  • Well it sucks to be you guys now. Shes back in the Music Industry with a top hit (Devilicious) Haha, owned you guys!

  • not since her zoo video shoot for the zoo magazine and fhm. The way she was dressed was discussting. Noone likes her becuase of that. I am a australian and there are people who stil like her but not many after what she did.

  • I remember when i was little and i saw her flying i was like

'Mummy, mummy i wanna fly like Nikki Webster'

    Baha.

    ;D

  • i have heard this song only once on the telecast of the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics and i have love it since then... after 8 years, i finally found this song... :)

  • 嘿 嘿 ,

  • I'm hungarian, and I'm too young, to compare this song with another olimpics. But I bet, Nikki was the mosdt beautisul olimpic singer, and the best as well. Here on YouTube, I saw the Atlanta Closing, and on TV is saw the Peking Opening and the Athens Opening, but they couldn't reach Nikki. (I think, the chinese language counts:))

  • Funny how at every olympic ceremony, we're having children perform a lyrical song...i think it attracts the world-wide viewers. Atlanta did it, Sydney did it, Athens did it, Beijing did it...without a doubt, we'll see the same in London, 2012! Well done though to Nikki...she aced it! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...Oi! Oi! Oi! x

  • I am Chinese, compared to Beijing Olympics theme song, Nikki made Sydney's stand out. Go Nikki!

  • She was really good!!!

Especially compared to China's mimed answer to Nikki Webster.

  • we want peace and love and

    we know we are one

  • shes gotten worse since then

  • wow... gave me chills...

    great song!!!

  • the BEST olympics EVER!!!

I remember i HAD that dress! the chior that was singing was from my school. I MISS the year 2000 SO MUCH! The best time of my childhood by farr! Nothing will ever beat Sydney 2000 not even Athens 2004 (btw im greek so this coming from one is crazy)

After the olympics i officially became a fan of Nikki..

  • best bloody olympics song ever!!

    made me cry!! ME!

  • she has a great voice

  • imagine she fell of the stand

  • She couldnt, she was adhibited there. She could fell off ;).But anyway, if it would be me, nobody could get me up there and make me sing! This song and Nikki at this age rules!

  • I remember watching this when I saw 10 and how much I wanted that dress. Between this and the opening ceremonies I wonder if she now has a fear of heights :)

  • The Best Olympic Games ever!!! Wonder what Beijing will show.
