  • bummer old man! been off line latley, so hows everything else going?

  • Things are going great. No big problem with the tranny. Got a guy puttin' the ears back on, and pullin' the motor out gave me a chance to fix a few other things that were on the list.. Also been gettin' a lot of work done on the house.. Hope you and yours are doing well..

  • Oh no!! what does that mean now? You need a new transmission?? or is something that can be repaired?? Talk about "oops" events..

  • we dont get to see much of that in nova scotia any more sence thay went on the big crushing spree in the 70s ,

  • Wow that sucks, I love your Oh well personality. Adding that crossmember under the bellhousing looks like a good idea. Good Luck..or should I say Better Luck. :o)

  • that is one fine car i like the cola trunk lid

  • Yea, she's a honey.. haha

  • Thats a little inconvenient

  • good thing you caught that before something catastrophic happened!!!!

  • 'tis.. hahaha

  • You might want to fab a set of side mounts, that bolt to your four trans case to bell housing bolts. The whole assembly will rock from side to side, with center mounts. I tried that with my 56' Chevy, and a cross member mount, and the factory fronts. It didn't work to well. Good luck on that rod.

  • 57 chevy engines mount at the front like that and if you just run a mount at the rear of a newer trans at the 6 oclock, the engine rocks, ya have to mount at the 4 and 8 oclocks on the bell housing or it will rock too. Go to Ecklers Classic Chevy and look at bell H mounts #18-07 or #1804 and see if they may work. Cast iron is easy to drill and tap, and then connect to your frame mount? I'll go jump in the lake now, LOL

  • Caddy engine I think.

  • Yea, I've actually got one of those old Chevy bell housings.. If I ever swap this thing over it'd be a piece a cake.. hahaha

  • @rpeek I was thinking of maybe drilling and tapping new holes in your cast iron front part of a bell housing there, (which may actually be part of the block) but anyway tapping it and bolting P glide mounts to it and that crossmember???

  • here is one for you a banjo with a floyd rose whammy bar hehehe

  • hows the weather????

  • Was pretty nice yesterday.. Snowing today..

  • Awesome. (:

  • Coca Cola :D :D :D Never get's old, never get's better. :D

  • Like you said it's better to break down now then on the road to a show. lol. 5*

  • Good Vid Rpeek

  • Bummer. Do you know anyone who welds aluminum? Do you think you'll be able to salvage the case?

  • Yea, Stan the sign painter does. Think I'll see if he can weld the ears back on..

  • I seen this happen once on a conversion putting a later gearbox on a chev small block the problem the guy had was the clutch shaft was bottoming out on the spigot bush in the end of the crank causing pressure between the gearbox & the bell housing even though it seemed to have plenty of clearance at the time it was assembled

he got the spigot bush machined by 5 mills fixed the issues with it

  • That's a problem there, mister, but I am sure you'll fix it.

  • A 1/8th plate that could mount between the engine and tranny (you know similar to the thin metal plate that goes on small block ford engine normally) that you could mount up in the rear to relieve some of that stress would work awesome. Basically like a tube chassis engine mount.

  • ahh fun. A mid mount or something tied into the back of the motor would work nice. My 77 is the same way has motor mounts up front and a transmission transfer case mount in the back with the aulimium auto trans holding all the weight in the middle.

  • Never really noticed how far foward the engine mounts were. One Idea for a rear engine mount is in circle track racing they make mounts that bolt to the bellhousing using the bolt and dowel holes going into the engine. Just a thought??!! If you go online and dig around racing parts suppliers you'll see the type I'm talking about, and I'm sure once you see them you could fab a set up yourself.

  • tough break man.. but I know you'll make it better than it ever was!

  • U should put an engine mid mount plate on er.

  • how much power does that motor put out? maybe flexing that bell housing a bit and broke the ears but i agree to put that cross member in there to really straighten the mount system.

  • you will work it out............

  • A surprise you all did not need, however

Ya got some thing to work on....Yaaaaa

  • That is an interesting spot to break. I had a gear cluster break in my truck last week

  • Better the transmission ears than your aluminum bell housing adapter. You have the right idea with the bell housing mounts.

Try to find a place that will mount to the cast iron. Any possibilities of engine side mounts?
