Methinks that Ajax may be laced with cocaine - the little elf says "And it smells good too!" Would certainly explain why they suddenly had this compulsion to . . . CLEAN EVERYTHING IN THE ENTIRE HOUSE!?
Thank you! Thank you! I've been wanting to find this old commercial for a long time. I vaguely remembered the jingle and something about foaming bubbles down the drain. Now I"ve found it! As a kid (in the '50s) I always enjoyed these cartoon commercials.
James "Shamus" Culhane's animation unit produced this for Colgate-Palmolive-Peet in 1950 (and usually seen on "THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR"). He later used examples from this ad in a book on animation...
Geez..the dirt in that cartoon tub looks like my bathroom tub in real life :). Try Dollar Tree for Ajax or Wal Mart. Comet user here, and have never had any problems with it.
Ajax used to have a full line of cleaning products in the 1960's--laundry detergent, floor cleaner, the "white tornado" all-purpose cleaner, even a window cleaner--but Colgate seems to be abandoning the brand, since they now make only the dishwashing liquid and the cleanser--and both are getting harder to find in stores...seems they're floating Ajax "right down the drain..."
I love these old commercials. By the way, Ajax is a great cleanser! It's a lot better then Comet or Bon Ami. It doesn't leave a film like Comet either. Unfortunately Ajax is getting harder to find in the stores. Wish the company would promote it more. You can't beat the tried and true!
mmmm and it smells good too... soooo huuufff Ajax!

Ajax is extremely versatile. It also lets you update part of a web page without having to reload the whole page. Let's see Mr. Clean do that!

Paul Frees! He's the voice of the fat elf. June Foray is the young elf.
I'd know their voices anywhere.

Why can't there be commercials like this now?

Because there rarely is talent like this now.
Happy Thanksgiving.
