This is spectacular! I remember the airplay version of the original theme orchestrated by John Williams, from Jan/Feb of 1978. This is pretty doggone close. Also it's nice to see this performed in front of my eyes. I'm also a Capt. and Tennille Fan. Mike in Fresno, Ca.
Thanks for posting this very nice version of the "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" theme. I've always loved the Captain & Tennille (I even have their Mego dolls in my collection). I have fond memories of their variety show, and I'm glad to hear more of their TV specials will be available soon.
Captain & Tennille are releasing their tv specials this year(2007)...keep an eye out for The Captain & Tennille in Hawaii, New Orleans, & Song Book...& The Christmas episode from their tv show
So So glad to see this posted. I was a big C&T fan as a 10-12 year old. I saw this special. They also had a "C&T in New Orleans" special that was great and one other that I think was a xmas one. Awesome.
C&T should have included this on one of their records

Daryl was a BeachBoy for a time - playing keyboards in studio and on tour, plus doing some arranging.

I remember hearing this back in '78 on the AFN radio while in Germany..... they played it only twice, but I never forgot how forward sounding it was!

Great music by a mere mortal. Not in the same universe as the wizard, Rick Wakeman but still a great effort.

One of my most favorite Daryl "The Captain" Dragon performances. He is such an underrated musician and producer. This man is simply a musical genius!
