Awesome fighter! Too bad they are replacing it with the F-35. Having more advanced avionics and being cheaper is all fine and dandy but when the damn thing takes a dive in performance. It was outperformed by Su-35s in simulations and I don't even want to think how it would do against either the J-20 or T-50. Way to take 2 steps forward and 1 step back guys.

In the report it also said that most often against the sukhoi the F-35 destroyed it outside of visual range. Which is what it was designed to do. Dogfighting isn't the future of aviation.
@wadopotato33 True enough and it was still a simulation so it can't really predict 100% what actual battle perf. will be. Still I think the F-35 isn't as good of a jet as the F-22. In my mind with the F-35 they made a jack of all trades but a master of none. Should have just upraded the avionics package on the F-22 IMO.

US planes have been destroying Russian planes since Russia and the US became enemies. Look at Korea and Vietnam. The US had total air power during those conflicts.

China isn't known for fantastic fighters. The PAK-FA looks like a decent adversary though.

Just in case u guys didn't hear, major flaw with the oxygen system, the whole fleet was grounded for 4 months after complaints about lack of oxygen which led to disorientation of pilots while flying it. THe crash a few months ago in alaska was also pertaining to the oxygen provision system. And Lockheed refuses to admit to it. If a plane costs 377 million a pop, it shouldn't have these flaws. Definitely the most advanced, but still should be in test stages, not finishing production of 196 planes

The Government cancelled further orders after (187?) of them were bought. They were thinking about buying a few more, like maybe a few (2-3) each year to keep the supply line open in case they wanted more (to re-open the supply line would cause them to cost more if we do decide to buy more), but if I remember the funds were relocated, and the supply line is either closing soon or already has.
It hasn't seen too much real combat, but it has seen it.
@ss3cleric Wouldn't go that far mate. The F-22 isn't an aircraft that can be used on a continual basis like the F-18 or F-16. It needs roughly over 35 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight. It's basically an example of what America can do in terms of technology, but not used on the flightline everyday. The workhorse's of America are still the F-18, F-16 and F-15 and they will remain so for the next 15 years.
@ss3cleric ... We did buy this for our Air Force. The program was cancelled because of cost issues, not because someone came up with the JSF idea.
But the JSF is a good idea, a stealth multirole jet that's still outclassed by an F-22. We can export it to allied countries for millions upon millions of dollars, and we still stay on top.

Also, the JSF is a jump-jet, and can provide close air support far better than an F-22 can with far less risk to the pilot than the pilot of an AV-8B is exposed to. Not to mention that the armaments that the JSF is capable of using cover far more ground (yes, a pun) than the F-22's armaments. However, it is still outclassed by the F-22 in dogfights.

The F-22 is currently based and operating in the harshest climates in the world ranging from the desert in Nevada and California, to extreme cold in Alaska, and rain/humidity in Florida, Okinawa and Guam. yes it was around 187. and yes they have been temporarly held off on production(because the gov't says that there is nothing even close to the f22 out there which is "bs" because china just came out with a similar fighter and russia has basically copied the design of the f22). so i'm hoping that it will be "brought back to life" cause we will need it. the jsf 35 is sweet, but the raptor exceeds in agility and speed. but idk. just my opinion.

The Government cancelled further orders after (187?) of them were bought. They were thinking about buying a few more, like maybe a few (2-3) each year to keep the supply line open in case they wanted more (to re-open the supply line would cause them to cost more if we do decide to buy more), but if I remember the funds were relocated, and the supply line is either closing soon or already has.
It hasn't seen too much real combat, but it has seen it.

@ss3cleric Wouldn't go that far mate. The F-22 isn't an aircraft that can be used on a continual basis like the F-18 or F-16. It needs roughly over 35 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight. It's basically an example of what America can do in terms of technology, but not used on the flightline everyday. The workhorse's of America are still the F-18, F-16 and F-15 and they will remain so for the next 15 years.

@ss3cleric ... We did buy this for our Air Force. The program was cancelled because of cost issues, not because someone came up with the JSF idea.
But the JSF is a good idea, a stealth multirole jet that's still outclassed by an F-22. We can export it to allied countries for millions upon millions of dollars, and we still stay on top.

@ss3cleric For once, someone on Youtube that doesn't have their head shoved so far up their ass that their pride becomes almost literally visible. Also, the JSF is a jump-jet, and can provide close air support far better than an F-22 can with far less risk to the pilot than the pilot of an AV-8B is exposed to. Not to mention that the armaments that the JSF is capable of using cover far more ground (yes, a pun) than the F-22's armaments. However, it is still outclassed by the F-22 in dogfights.
