They are the only insects able to turn thier heads. The males are smaller than the females. Females often eat the males during mating and for this reason, the males have a "brain" in thier tail so they can keep mating if the female decides to bite his head off.

Actually, there are plenty of places that sell them. You usually have to buy them as larva, while they're still in their egg sacs, but they are sold.

Lots of people use them in organic farming and as pets.

If you want to find out if your mantis is male or female, flip your mantis over. Count the number of lines on it's stomach. If it has 6, it is most likely a male, if it has 8 or more, it is most likely a female. Size matters, too! If the mantis is bigger, it is most likely a female. They are legal, they have pretty long life. Mine lived for 4 months from summer to close to winter. And theyre harmless as long as you dont wave your finger in front of them.

Some do. If you have them from a young age, and they are well feed and taken care of, they can live longer. I once had a mantis that lives for over a year! :D
