  • its Zorak

  • Where did you get the praying manties if I live in UK?

  • Awwww - it was grooming itself.

  • @soulkiss31 it.....it ate a bug.....

  • i have one and she knows who i am and when i put her outside she will run back to me. so i made her a lil mansion..

  • And not a single fuck was given by the mantis that day

  • CLOSE THE DOOOR!!!!

  • he killed Charlie!!! DX

  • I wanna get one but i dont know how long they live so can someone tell me?

  • @Shadowmere65 typically around a year. if you have a female and she has not yet mated, they can live up to 2 months longer.

  • @Shadowmere65 They live up to about a year depending on the species but the basics you found outside in the bushes like these (most common) live up to about a year or so

  • Omg they don't bite unless you piss it off by far they make an awesome pet and their so adorable with big eyes

  • by far my favorite insect

  • @shawnmeboy my fav too, they are so cute :D

  • that is a female

    look at her abdomen

  • how u know its a she?

  • For some reason I would think spiders taste nasty. He (or she) looks to be enjoying it quite well though.

  • herp derp

  • "mmm tasty, got any more snacks inside?" Sure come inside. You can eat all the asshole bugs you want!

  • Mantis- "Spiders are yummy!! yumyumyummm. .. Now I'm going to break into your house and your going to act like you dont see me doing it!!"

  • They are the only insects able to turn thier heads. The males are smaller than the females. Females often eat the males during mating and for this reason, the males have a "brain" in thier tail so they can keep mating if the female decides to bite his head off.

  • Mantis : *Knock Knock* Sir,Im the pizza delivery guy,but sorry i ate ur spider pizza...

  • wait im wondering how u tell its gender.?

  • @imadude1224

cause the females eat the guys after mating.

  • @imadude1224 for example size - females are bigger than males, and females have more spacious abdomens as well, they need the space for the eggs ;-)

  • He looks happy

  • the mantis is soo sweeeet

  • that mantis looks big!!

  • She's like "Hey, nice pad, mind if I chow down on this spider while I'll check it out?" xD

  • 3 minutes of a mantis chewing on something.......AWSOME

  • Mantis are very beneficial insects to have around, specially if you have a spider or wasp infestation, I love them

  • she got free lunch and get to go in your house for free

  • where can i get one plz tell me

  • @dergo4411 nobody really sells them cuz they eat eachother is more just a sort of find thing like i found one two years ago and he died recently but i just found him

  • @hootentogger

Actually, there are plenty of places that sell them. You usually have to buy them as larva, while they're still in their egg sacs, but they are sold.

Lots of people use them in organic farming and as pets.

  • lol NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM why thank you for the meal and inviting me into your home... i think ill just go sleep in your bed now

  • Yep.Period.

  • hell yeah! :)

  • Nope, they would be either extinct, in risk of extinction or in zoos ;)

  • wow ^-^

  • This creature is amazing :D

  • i want a dozen to eat all the spiders in my house

  • ehh they dont stand a chance against the heavyweights of bug fighting, but i like em alot

  • these are not pet there bugs its like if you have a pet bee

  • that's not entirely true

  • actually you can buy mantis as pets Ive seen them in a store.

  • Yeah, they're insects, but compared to most other species they are quite intelligent. There's even scientific basis that they can learn to recognise faces and voices.

  • thats something new to me bout mantises i made a model of one in 3rd grade got an A just for the model it was made from tape pipe cleaner and paper

  • @messdup1 and they somehow manage to eat snakes, mice and soft shell turtles!

  • @messdup1 really!!!...never knew that...but mantis still creeps me out!!

  • @messdup1

    And were is that information?

  • @AVP181 As in an exact source? I can't be bothered into looking up a full list for you to review. If you're looking for proof, why not take a little initiative and go looking yourself.

  • @messdup1 Ya mines not scared of me but when other people or my cat come up to the glass he shys away.

  • @messdup1 That's amazing! They're like little green dogs you can find in the woods! (Comparing specifically to dogs because of their impressive intelligence)

  • @messdup1 haha That's crazy

  • @ElvisLivesUpstairs Indeed. The world we live on and the Universe around us are truly amazing places. ^^

  • Comment removed

  • @messdup1 Superior sensory perception probobly has the largest impact on whether living things appear intellegent in lab studies or not, a dormant physical entity may still have an intellectual mind. -but no perceptual relation data to intertwine their thoughts and their know how.

  • fantastic!

    my fav insect.

  • mine too!!!

  • i love these things xD

  • me too!!!

  • I wana get 1 and name it Monty.

  • Name it Zorak

  • these are soo cool but rele scary looking

  • these things are all over my house!

  • SEND ME ONE!!!!

  • ugh I would step on it

  • why would you do that ? it's just part of the nature, let's all start killing every life form on earth ! where would we be ?! without insects, this planet couldn't sustain life, in case you didn't know. so, the next time you want to "step on it, remember that they are a part of the enviroment, and should be respected. peace

  • Mantis are amazing, it's a shame we dont have this bugs here in Peru =/

  • what did you say! their are no mantises in peru?

I have never bin their but I don't believe you.

I'm from the netherlands they certainly don't live here.

but when i was in spain I showed the mantises from there to the locals en they did not know it lived there. so probably you did not surge enough also.

  • we dont have them in england

  • how can you determine if a praying mantis is female from outer attributes? is it just size or is there something else?

    thanks :]

    awesome video too :D

  • If you want to find out if your mantis is male or female, flip your mantis over. Count the number of lines on it's stomach. If it has 6, it is most likely a male, if it has 8 or more, it is most likely a female. Size matters, too! If the mantis is bigger, it is most likely a female. Hope this helped! :D I luv my mantids! 29 up to date! :D awesome video!

  • how pretty! where do you find them?

  • this only happens in the hood.

  • yes they are harmless. ive held them before. it feels wierd though

  • Two questions:

    1) are they harmless?

    2) are they legal to be pets in the U.S.A?

The largest insect I've ever held was a madagascar hissing cockroach

  • Aren't those roaches equal in size as a rat?

  • The one I held was about half the size of a six inch long rat.

  • They are legal, they have pretty long life. Mine lived for 4 months from summer to close to winter. And theyre harmless as long as you dont wave your finger in front of them.

  • why cant you wave your finger in front of them?

  • because the do some kung fu shizzle

kung fu is a martial arts based on mvoements of animals so watch out

  • becuase their mouth or teeth can actually cut u but other than that ur fine.

  • they only live for a couple of months ?

  • Some do. If you have them from a young age, and they are well feed and taken care of, they can live longer. I once had a mantis that lives for over a year! :D

  • If you raise them from nymphs some species can live for up to 12-14 months :)

  • What Kind of Praying Mantis is this? Looks verry nice!

  • Mantis Religiosa

  • Hm? Isnt "Mantis Religiosa" the same big Category like "Praying Mantis"?

I thought Names like Ischno-mantis and Sphrodo-mantis are for spetialized types in this Group of awesome insekts.

Wikipedia: Mantis Religiosa = a Kind of European Mantis^^ Im confused :)

    --Sorry for my bad english!--

  • looks like a european imo

  • reggie,ur afraid of mantis's? wow lol i let those thigns crawl all over me,one sat on my head at one time

  • one time, i found a big one in my backyard. and i started to perfom karate moves in front of it and it moved and i like freaked out and screamed, lol. :]

  • My fav insect :) i want one

  • thatss soooo hugee

  • i wish i could find one

  • It's a shame they eat spiders, they are also good pest control

  • mantis: ahh such a good meal

    guy: ?

mantis: ah time for a long nap. hope you dont mind me usings your bed

    guy: ?

  • I think if it did that, I'd charge it rent.

  • Why? Free pest control

  • cool i need to get one
