LOL!!! to 'ourbirds' or should i just call you 'outburst!!!'
after reading the whole comments list im getting a mental image of mrs bucket from 'keeping up appearances' actin tough with the keyboard... hehe ;P
If your so professional then how bout you show us how its meant to be done? sounds to me like your simply looking for things to pick on in order to put random181 down.
You say some of the things she is harming the horse with some of her techniques, which ended up wrong anyway...
wow ourbirds stop having a fit, u may talk the talk but can you walk the walk? i think you need to calm down she might have made a few mistakes but ont tell me uve neve ACCIDENTLY jabbed a horse the mouth. she rode well and id like to see u get on a JUST of the track thouroughbred, alsotbs are known to be wizzy and highly strung
Our standards as horse people should be a little higher than "the horse is alive".
And a horse doesn't care how hard you try. A horse doesn't care that you're doing your best. Clearly, this person's best is not nearly good enough. A horse only cares that he has the muscle to do his job so that he doesn't break down, and that the rider on his back is there to help him and not hold him in to his chest and have him on the forehand.
If the owner really cares, she would recognise all of this.
hey this is not to be mean at all! just might want to tell the rider (i know its not u) that when she rides she tends to lean forward a little and to put her shoulders out like u have a string attached to your head and someone is pulling one it :) it works for me but other than that she is good nice seat and legs! must have been hard to sit that trot!
I think that things are getting a bit out of hand here. At least this girl is giving this a horse a chance. Many of us can sit back and criticize, but the horse is alive and getting cuddles and food and she is doing her best. Maybe if people were giving CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM instead of getting personal things would be different. I just fail to see the point in getting nasty it helps no one least of all the horse. Good on you at least you are trying gave it your best shot.
This horse IS being ridden back to front. If he were truly through, he would be more open thru the gullet and his paces more regular.
And it was claimed the rider was a professional. Re-read the first reply.
To the original poster, why post on Youtube if you can't take criticism? I am calling it like I see it. If you cared to actually read what I'm saying with an open mind, your horse would benefit a whole lot.
This is not just what I happen to think. Study the German Training Scale.
A great point was made by hails with the rider being an experienced rider not a proffesional rider.
In saying that, knowing your commitment to do the best by your horse and the good work you've made with your boy now with the help of this lovely rider, I think it's going great!
Keep up the good work. I've seen footage and read your posts on a forum and I believe it's a positive step forward :)
dont forget she is riding a green TB. she is doing the best thing for him, getting him foward rather than riding him backward...they will tend to break in and out of canter initially if they arent ridden like this normally...and the initial trot as a result is often unbalanced, resistant and damn hard to ride.
Um...she didnt say this girl was a professional...she said experienced rider...BIG difference.
He jumps it because he's unbalanced and doesn't understand. The rider is throwing him further off balance further, hence he falls in & out of canter before & after the fence. She is jabbing him in the mouth a couple of the times as he lands. His mouth is open and his back is hollow. He's only jumping it because he's confused. If he enjoyed it his ears would be up more and his back would be soft.
Training & educating are the same.
The horse needs a professional. Stop kidding yourself.
How about keep your nose out of my horse's business? If I wanted advice I'd ask for it- this video is up for entertainment purposes and I lack any desire to keep defending myself to someone who doesn't even have their own videos on display. Anonymous insults really carry no bearing.
FYI- his mouth is open coz his teeth need doing. I booked the dentist the day after this ride.
completly agree-the rider may be experienced that doesn't mean shes good. hes a very willing horse , softening in the mouth and being rewarded with heavy and tight hands. a few weeks with a proffesional and he would be lovely!
Do I really give a shit about whether I call something jumping or 'elevated trot poles?' No.
Why does he jump it? Fucked if I know- he jumps over poles lying flat on the ground too. It was, however, a good opportunity to get him working on the correct canter lead (which we have since had better luck establishing).
And what makes her not a professional? I was under the impression 1 star eventing was pretty professional...
The idea of this session was to 'suss him out' and figure out what buttons push what. Next session will be slower and based more on establishing things.
And he jumps because he likes to jump... (In case youre wondering he did go over trot poles, then elevated trot poles first).
The rider in the video demonstrates very poor balance. A horse this green needs professional re-education. His reluctance to canter is very telling, as his inconsistency and lack of topline. Why is he being jumped? A horse should not be jumped until it is established solidly in w/t/c.
PLEASE do the right thing by this horse and have him professionally re-educated. This is not "education". You will destroy his muscles and he will never progress.

If I got on a just off the track Thoroughbred, I wouldn't be cranking his nose in. That's the whole point.
Good luck getting this horse anywhere. Cheers.

He isn't 'just' off the track, he's been retired for a bit over a year, and has plenty of hours under the saddle but is Green.
Keep watching my videos if you want to see this horse 'go nowhere.'

I'm sorry but you know NOTHING about me, my horse, and what I've been through.
And if you DO- then why don't you tell me who you are instead of hiding behind an anonymous username?
Stop being a bullshit artist and go pick on someone who actually wants your input.

The rider demonstrates poor balance because she has a collapsed torso, toes out, weak lower leg, and extremely low, wide and overactive hands.
A professional is a quality, recognised horse trainer.
If it is an "elevated trot pole" then why do you call it jumping in the video, and why does the horse jump it and land in canter?
Nobody in the world trains the way you describe (first ride the most intensive)
Your comment about your horse "liking" to jump speaks volumes. Educate yourself.
ourbirds 4 years ago
Did I ever say 'training?'
No.
Did I say education? Yes.
2 different things? Yes.
First ride? No. HER first ride on him? Yes.
Random181 4 years ago
Also, do you sit up perfectly straight and have completely immobile hands every time you get on a horse?
Not to mention I've seen plenty of trainers ride with lower hands on a green horse.
And what the hell- you telling me you've never seen a horse that enjoys jumping?
Random181 4 years ago
Poor balance? How so?
