  • Bothersome that it is in F#.

    No 3rd subject trill?

    No pedal trill? How disappointing.

Did the "impossible trill" at the end. Why not the beginning?

    Why no pedal trills?

    Very nice performance.

  • i like the way for the prelude; the fugue many organists are playing like Chapuis

  • What a high diapason!! Leaving Saint-Maximin-La-Baule listening to Marchand's grand dlalogue almost one tone above (watch?v=WlfcuawEUvg ...in B dur rather than C), it makes such a shock!

  • @voixhumaine I meant below. Not above.

  • This instrument is such a wonderful machine. One doesn't really hear how loud it is at the console. It is also rather excessively sharp in pitch, by modern standards, which caught out a choir I sang with once. This E minor is more like F# minor!

  • @MrDecanialto : You mean (the rather) this instrument is a wonderful instrument.

  • The Zwolle Schnitger was a favorite of E. Power Biggs. He made two records with it: Bach at Zwolle and it was featured in his anthology album The Golden Age of the Organ. He uses it for a rip roaring rendering of the "Dorian" Toccata and Fuge in d minor--the other and better one in my opinion.

  • But who is the best Bach interpreter? Chapuis or Koopman? Or someone that plays just like Bach himself would play (but who know that), or someone who gets the best out of Bachs work? And this changes from century to century. We don't know how Bach played. I guess it's up every individual listener. There is is not a single interpretation that is perfect.

  • The priceless Arp Schnitger organ of Zwolle - not as well known outside of the Netherlands as the great organs of Haarlem and Alkmaar, but like the Bovenkirk Kampen organ, the very best of the organ building art of their era. And as to the best organists, well, who's to say? Piet Kee? Harald Vogel? Michel Chapuis? The list goes on, so let's just say that they mutually excel each other.

  • chapuis in my opinion was the best bach interpreter in '60/'70s. a wonderful interpretation, thank you!

  • sono d'accordo! Che stupende registrazioni, che magnifiche combinazioni tra le tastiere

    grazie

  • @StefanoF87

I couldn't agree more, though Bach would never have heard an organ like this!

Many Netherlands organists regard Chapuis as one of the best of all time as a Bach performer. Magnificent!
