they can NOT be the 'same' BNL with out Steve. You cannot take out such a unique individual and style and have the same group. They are a different group and should call themselves BNL-1
OK guys, STEVE IS GONE. HE'S NEVER COMING BACK. Both the BNL (yes, they are still the BNL, one singer leaving does not take away all of a band's identity) and Steve are going their own ways. Time to move on.
I think BNL was kind of a balancing act for a long time, with Page putting forth more poetic, experimental, different stuff, and Robertson putting up more mainstream, easily listenable stuff.
It's a matter of uniqueness vs. success. And as we've seen, one really can't be successful without the other. The last BNL album freaking blew, and while Page's stuff is great (as always), look at the number of views on his releases. The true BNL is on the road to reconciliation. It's about damn time.
Page, I'm glad you're getting yourself sorted out and getting back on to the most addictive substance: Music. But I'm a huge fan of BNL, you guys were amazing together. You all fed on each others creativity. Please give it another go :(
sillyness has been his signature = all those great BNL somgs like If I had a million dollars owe their success to Stevn Page and BNL's current success is hooked to Steven coattails. Without Steven the BNL would never have made it out of their "Old Apartment" in Scarborough.
@jagg1951 You kind of ignored half of my comment. I said it looks like he's taking himself too seriously. And I think while Steven is a bit more the front man, especially in the early days, Ed wrote and sung a lot of the good songs as well, so it's probably 50/50.
It's a good song though, no doubt about it. Getting the album now to listen to at work.
sorry but I am still saddened and touchy because of the loss of the original BNL and I wish Ed had changed the name because they are NOT the BNL anymore.
I agree it was 50/50 Now it is nothing and Ed does not deserve the benefit of BNL name and fame that belonged to steve, IMHO
In no way do I see how you could be serious. As much as BNL does owe a lot of its success to Mr. Page, Ed, Kevin, Tyler, and Jim do completely deserve to keep the name Barenaked Ladies. I absolutely loved All In Good Time, it was a very good album that was BNL style, it fit with all of their other music and added another great one to my collection. The only thing that was missing from that cd I got when I plugged in Page One. BNL is still a great group and now Steven can do his thing
I know there was a tv show about groups that are completely different people than the original group of that name . I don\t like it. I wish when groups lose a member they would change their name because they really are not the same group anymore. Just MHO.
@jagg1951 I agree with you, I think if a band keeps a name after splitting it gives a certain amount of expectation to fans. BNL did okay with it though.
for me it has nothing to do with expectations. the new band is a band but they are NOT the BNL anymore BNL had steven paige as a member and the new group do not, they are not the same band. period.
@jagg1951 Are you kidding me? I've had just about enough of these cheap shots towards Ed. He doesn't deserve it. You might think he does but that's only your opinion.
@jagg1951 Um...have you seen them live? They're the same funny guys, playing their songs the same way. Their last album may have had a different tone to it, but that does not change who they are. They're still the BNL. It's not like all but 1 person left. The BNL is Ed, Tyler, Kevin, and JIm. Same people. Ed still sings. Steve sang a lot, and he sang well. But the rest are more than capable of carrying on. It's no coincidence that their 2 biggest albums in the US saw Ed sing more than ever.
Imagine just John Lennon just left the Beatles and they kept making records....What would your reaction be? Similar to this for me.

I like his dancing in "Enid" better.

If you want an example of this, listen to Maroon and Stunt, and tell me you can't just as easily name them "Steve's Album" and "Ed's Album".

BNL was all of them together. Steven isn't the BNL
Ed , Jim, Kevin, and Tyler are not the BNL
The BNL doesnt exist anymore.
They were a team. That team is dead and gon and now we have posers using the name BNL.
If they do notg have Steven they should change the name they will NEVER be the BNL. Period.

They are not cheap shots. The BNL is NOT the BNL without Steven.Period.
If Ed had left I would be saying exactly the same thing. The BNL is not the BNL without Ed. Period.
The BNL is dead and gone. This new group without Steven is NOT the BNL "real" BNL fans loved.
