Do yourself a favor and give SUNY or any University a fair shake. One of my only regrets was going RPI instead of a true university where the diversity of curriculum and students would have provided better overall preparation for life. Pick a university with a good Engineering school. RPI is great for Engineers, but 1-dimensional. Putting lipstick on a pig doesn't change that its still a pig. Unpilot, you are right, transformation is good, but it will take more than sports.
Don't get me wrong, I got a great Engineering education and RPI opened some doors which led to a very successful career. My point is that there is more to it than that.
You all just don't get it, Ms Jackson and the leadership are transforming the school to not just an academic leader but a whole experience leading school and that includes sports teams. You need to have the facuilities to occomodate the expansion, watch more and newer dorms, new liberal arts programs, more arts programs, more diversity, larger student body = a move up to division II and further. OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE FARTHER THAN YOUR NOSES, this is GOOD and I am glad to see it happening.
SHUT UP! RPI IS THE GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH! I visited there, and I have never seen kinder people in my entire life. So what if sports are not their main focus. There is a wide plethora of great thinkers and inventors whose ideas had stemmed from RPI. E.g.: the guy who had invented the ferris wheel went to RPI. Did you know that? So do not judge a school based on their athletic abilities ok?
You are missing the point. Try spending four years of your life, and tens of thousands of dollars there. It sucks. The Ferris wheel and the Brooklyn Bridge are amazing creations - they don't affect the quality of life there.
What was tuition when you went there? Tens of thousands of dollars? 4 years x 36,950 gets you to 147,800.
I admit it's not the most fun place on earth, but my friends made it great. Had I gone to Virginia Tech, as originally planned I would probably have had a tough time getting work done at times.
I am finding over time it pays off more and more. At your age, I would figure your bitterness has worn off. I'm only class of 04 and I'm pretty much over it.
Shirley Ann Jackson is wasting money, cutting budgets and trying to build these things thinking it'll improve student life. How about she stops ingnoring the students and stops raising tuition? That'd help. Redoing the Fieldhouse AGAIN isn't going to help the hockey teams win the ECAC.
Why the hell is half the video taken up by paeans about the stadium and athletic shit?

Is part of the Rensselaer Plan to give money to the city to fully staff the firehouse that protects the campus?

It's RPI, *not* "Rensselaer".
("Rensselaer" is town across the river from Albany)

I graduated from RPI last year. I had a kick ass time and got a great education. You only get out of it what you put in.

RPI still sucks. Clarkson is much better. LETS GO TECH!!!!

Ha ha. When I was at RPI, the hockey team was better than Clarkson's. I've never been to Potsdam, though. I'll bet your winters were worse, for sure.

I really don't care about huge sports arenas. Not what I look for in a college.

Geez, when did RPI become such a big sports school? Other than hockey, sports were meaningless when I went there.
Who needs a "state of the art" facility to watch Division III football?

shirley is cool, applications are up a huge bunch. %90 of students receive financial aid... else the tuition blows though.
