Theres free roam for 16 players and the whole game world is open. You can find gang hide outs and fight them, fight with each other, fight against the law and go hunting etc.

Also, there are game modes like Free for All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. There are others as well, for example 'Gold Rush' where everyman fights to collect bags of gold around the map and return them to their chest and 'Grab the Bag' which is the same but with only 1 bag and teams.

i kept seeing the word "if" in your post, there is not "IF" about multiplayer in RDR, it IS in there. i don't know exactly what form it will take, but i agree that it'll probably be pretty similar to GTA 4's set up, which is a bummer because i didn't like the multiplayer in GTA. personally i'm not interested in this game because of the multi, i'm in it for the SP portion, but the multiplayer IS (/will be, since the game isn't out yet) there...

I'd rather see 10 Fallout style side missions than 100 San Andreas side missions. Think a "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" style treasure hunt that'll take hours and be full of twists and action or tracking down an infamous killer as opposed to over 9000 checkpoint races.
