  • I just have to ask this stupid question, is ubuntu, and the other ubuntu versions, based off OSX? So that OSX games will run on ubuntu?

  • @mkri96 no freaking way. ubuntu is linux

  • @mkri96 apple is too closed source man..

  • I wish more people knew about Ubuntu and Linux in general. These days it's very user-friendly. I hardly use Windows now.

  • xubuntu is a version for a low-end machines

  • how did u capture the screen?

  • @yooyoomine They used a virtual machine, and used a screen recorder.

  • Can I remake a live usb with just the essentials and some specific software and drivers?

  • @italouruguayricano use APTonCD for offline software, drivers and codec install if you asked that :)

  • Excellent. I am currently running Lubuntu with my old XP machine, but as soon as I get my new computer I plan to give Xubuntu/Windows 7 dual-booting a try. I really do like Xubuntu. I'm honestly thinking of trying it out on our nine-year-old Win ME claptrap with 384 mb of ram and similarily weak processor.

  • Erm... What's better or what's the difference between Ubuntu and Xubuntu?

  • @TescoValueMods

simple to explain: ubuntu is more or less a heavy weight os, xubuntu is light and can be used on older computers as well!!!

    next time check the wiki!!!

  • I didn't know of how I could make shortcuts on the desktop. It's ok for shortcuts taken from files or folders, even from web browser (URL shortcuts), but I tried to make some from the main menu bar, which I need in the daily use (calculator, google chrome). Network icon should function like in Windows XP (blue when data exchange, white when no data exchange). I liked very much the OS. It's light, fast, very easy to handle, very easy on software install / uninstall. It run ok in an old pc.

  • Good video. I am currently installing Xubuntu 9.10 onto a Sun VirtualBox to try it out. I chose it since it is a lighter distro and I'm hoping I can get it to run on an old HP with 128mb RAM and less than 1gig processor :-)

  • I love Xubuntu. I run as it as my main OS on a 933 MHz / 512 MB RAM clunker that's 10 years old...runs like a friggin champ.

Tons of programs, browsers, word processing.

I can even run Photoshop because I installed WINE.

I'm done with Windows. Linux is where it's at.

  • i wonder if it can play intense games that require lots of graphic power and ram power

  • Nice "review"

  • Damn, wish I hadn't found this in a way... I was gonna go for Kubuntu on my next system, but now I kinda like the look of this as well.

I'll play with this distro as well and see which one I end up liking better when I switch. This doesn't look as quick, but I don't know what the specs of the computer are so I'll go and find out for myself if there's any difference in speed on my hardware.

    Interesting to watch, thanks.

  • im getting a vaio P and put xubuntu on it

  • @kinmanyuen Vaios haave very little functionality. Don;t get linux for it.

  • I finally put ubuntu karmic 9.10 with poulsbo...

it works perfect out of the box. Every hardware in the vaio p was recognised, even starts with 1600x768

    i'm verry happy

  • i believe xubuntu is ligther. (as in system resources etc)

  • Thats just a myth.

  • not really test em yourself.

  • @pacorocks1 It also looks a lot cooler than Ubuntu. Ubuntu is plain, but this has a nice background and new apps

  • @pacorocks1: It uses the lightest desktop environment called xfce. It supports transparent windows and runs amazing on older system! Metacity is the default on Ubuntu and xfce is the default on Xubuntu.

  • Thats Due TO The Theme !

  • I've installed it on my old laptop and I'm very happy.

The only thing that I dont like is Openoffice, font of the menu look really orrible!

  • I like what your doing here but if I could suggest something....Please slow down especially when scrolling over the applications so we can see what is there.

    Thanks!

  • @Indy452 Pause the video ;)

  • @Indy452 you know you can pause the video right?

  • NewbezLied my comment or

    hsnan009's? if ur talking about

hsnan009's comment he/she uses disk partitions

  • For desktops I perfer Windows. For laptops I perfer Linux.

  • why?

btw I have vista and ubuntu 9.10 both on my laptop they both work fine

  • hows that work? lol

  • dirty, i'm not a linux expert or anything but any linux would be good for a laptop, especially ubuntu. i use it on a 512mb computer, desktop though.

  • i just put ubuntu on my laptop and my pc runs smoother, but there is one problem. every time i turn my computer on, my screen is blank. this is the funny part, when i turned my comp on under vista, a window popped up and said there was a vista update. every since that update ubuntu will not show on my screen.

  • what was that? that was a review?

  • would this system be good for my laptop? if not what would you recommend? toshiba satellite a135-4447

  • I think Xubuntu 9.10 is lighting fast on my dell so YEP GO FOR IT!

  • He is 'reviewing' how he plans on reviewing it.

Duh. Just keep watching and it'll make sense.

  • How is this a review? It does not even come close to a review. There is no sounds and all we see is a cursor moving about without any purpose or goal. It might have been a 4 year old moving about.

A complete wait of time, that's what this is.

  • looks better than ubuntu

  • It IS beter than ubuntu
