Getting this phone used for $150 on Wednesday. 6 months old. I got that price because I agreed the seller could keep the charger. Do I need a Samsung Captivate specific microUSB cable to charge and/or transfer data?
Also, do they recommend you turn the phone off before you add and remove the SD card?
i just got my (Rogers) Captivate and one thing I notice is that so many of the apps available in the Market are in Korean, or have Korean characters in them! I know the phone was made in Korea, but this is really ridiculous. Anyone else see this, and if so, is there a way to fix it?
I had an Iphone 3gs just a few days ago before is was stolen and decided to give this phone a shot after using both of them and wow I'm impressed. Glad I chose the Captivate and I'm getting ready for Android 2.2
Hey Brandon, just wanted to say excellent job on reviewing this phone! You were very thorough and weren't just reading off specs. It gave me a good idea of the overall feel of the phone. Other than trying the phone out myself, I've pretty much made up my mind on my next phone purchase. Again, fantastic review, 5 out of 5!
Just bought this phone and wow, it's freaking amazing. I can't begin to tell everyone how great it really is. Easily the best Android phone on the market imo. I'm very happy that i chose this over the iPhoen 4 with all of its bugs and problems. I love the Samsung Android UI, it's just such a smooth phone in all aspects.
@CaptChrisT dumbest question ever. The whole point of the Galaxy S phones is the Super AMOLED. Which is when the touch digitizer is integrated into the glass. Instead of being on top of it
I finally got a chance to play with one of these today, and the build exceeded my expectations. I was expecting something light and sort of fragile, but the build was definitely solid. The phone is featherweight and feels extremely thin, sort of wedge-like, but does not flex or creak in the hand. The texture on the metal backplate feels very nice against the skin.
The screen and the capacitive buttons are extremely responsive.
I was a little skeptical, but this is a really nice handset.
@ACherimoya Just realized you compared it to a wedge in this review. I really can't think of a better way to describe it. It feels like a slice of something. Maybe a tile, or a chip of stone or something. Very thin.
@sawankashank thts fine i would have probably used caps too but it will most likely be better than the iphone even though it doesnt have a front facing camera thts fine why would i need tht i only have lyk 7 friends tht have cool smarphones nd their phones dont have front facing cameras so why would i waste my tym on the iphone with bad reception nd bad reception means bad data connection nd im starting to lyk android alot better
@sawankashank of course it is i have seen videos nd pics tht are supposed to be looking better on the iphone nd the look better on the captivate plus bigger screen super amoled im getting this fone anyway no chance im chaging my choice unless they somehow released the iphone 5 then i would forget about the captivate but thts not happening
too bad theres no LED Notification where it tells you its done charging or you have an SMS, would be epic but i can live off of it, i just hope the rooting process at XDA will be done by August, in time for my upgrade
@IzKyD1331 no way; this design is nice only because of the black screen which looks like it's part of the bezel , the touch diamond didnt have that cause it had a LCD with it's greyish tinge screen !!!
Also I have the Galaxy s which is Identical to the T-mobile version the design is ok, too much like a iPhone IMO !
I prefer the rounded edges I guess. All these new HTC Android phones are just rectangles. The EVO is basically just a bigger Incredible, and the Incredible is just a bigger Aria.
subscribed. gonna watch your Browser Speed Test! Captivate, iPhone 4,... vid now.

Great review! One question though. The iPhone headphone jack subs as a microphone. Does this model have that same feature?
neodonkii 1 year ago
@neodonkii The headphones that come with the phone have a microphone built into the volume rocker similar to that of the iphone. (I have a captivate)

this phone IMO is by far the best looking version of the galaxy s series !
the screen looks like it's part of the bezel and the black on the screen is indentical to the bezel color , which gives it a very unique touch !

@tarunrad
I like the T-Mobile version the best. The captivate looks like an early HTC windows mobile 6.5 phone (the touch diamond comes to mind).
