Both the 2.1 and the 2.5 are fine engines in my opinion. My 2.1 generally feels pretty peppy once it gets rolling on the boost though. No replacement for the awesome diesel tune it sings too. :-D
No, AMC also used Renault 2.1 turbo diesels in the Cherokee and Comanche. They were available in the USA for a from 84-87. Out side the usa they were still used until Chrysler started buying diesels from Italian VM.
in Europe the first model of the XJ was sell with renault 2100cc Turbo diesel engine...also now by J8S... it´s not a powerfull engine because it has only 88 CV or horse power!... in my contry (Portugal) they were never sell it.
