They oughta make this show into a movie! And Americanize it. A good cast would be as follows: Chris Klein as Blake, Mika Boorem as Jenna, Eric Balfour as Avon, Tina Majorino as Cally, Jonathan Bennett as Vila, Paulo Costanzo (a Canadian) as Gan, Angie Harmon as Servalan, and Peter Facinelli as Travis. As for Zen the computer, it wouldn't be a bad idea to follow the original show's example and have him voiced by a Brit again. Dominic Monaghan might be a good choice there.
@loganidol A few years ago I would've disagreed with you about an American version. But the Battlestar Galactica remake proved they can do cynical sci-fi where the goodies don't always win.
Very, very good. Good music, good clips - I was expecting the siren from the last scene would appear somewhere and was not disappointed. I had shivers running down my arms through most of it - good work!
See, the problem is, it's too much like something advertising itself to monkeys by being shiny. I call it the Disney Eyes technique. Disney uses big wide starring eyes to seduce children, because humans are attracted to giant eyes. Action movie music, especially the kind with a 1000 boy choir, is trying to get easily amused people to react with ooos and ahhhs. A thing should stand on its own, but few things do. There's a scene in, "They Live" where a dollar bill says, "this is your god"...
@ion010101 Music, action music or no, should compliment the image. The 1000 boy choir is just trendy at the moment. If this was done ten years ago it would be much more electronic. Hans Zimmer has set a current trend, especially with his Batman scores, which is being copied mercilessly, including otherwise talented musicians. Thanks for your post. :)
@SciFiAssasin But you don't have to compliment the image with something that appeals to the lowest common denominator; to the easily amused, to those who want to be accepted by the in-crowd.
Cheers, mate! Excellent display of production skills. This show desperately needs to be brought back like Doctor Who was but at the exact point where the last episode ended. Doing so would of course require a very clever writer, but then B7 was for the most part a very clever show.
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this series. Thanks for refreshing my memory! Sure do wish this would come to BBC America. Now, I'm going to look for the DVDs.....if they exist!
I think it was ten billion pities, that Blake's 7 got axed after four seasons. I also think that it was ten billions pities, that arch-enemy/arch-villain Servalan was omitted from the final episode Blake. I also think Servalan should have been in the final episode, to be present and she should have been killed off permanently and irrevocably like Blake was. It is hard to know for certain if the Blake in the final episode, was even the real Blake and not a clone like the two seen in series two.
I would s*** myself if I were sitting through previews in a movie theater and this followed one of those green "the following preview" screens. I would scream out loud if at the moment the screen goes black with the sound of the shot being fired, the words "Coming Summer 2011" appeared! :D
Nice... the music I would deem "over the top" elsewhere, but for "Blake's 7" it works brilliantly - especially with the mix of clips you chose. Great compilation, thank you!
This is AWESOME! I love it! You've made it look like a serious epic series like BSG. What they could have made with these actors and the story... Only our imaginations can elevate it to these heights... Your imagination and skill here has done it proud.
@SciFiAssasin It is too! I do miss Scorpio taking off. Even now, I do the quote from "Rescue" when I can't get my car to start: "C'mon you scruffy bag of bolts, lift!"
As someone who has written 30,000 words for a continuation story, I find this the most motivating thing in the world. It is sheer brilliance. However, the irony lies in the fact that our work will only ever be for fun, until someone at the BBC understands the Dr.Who style gold mine they are sat on!!
OK anti-climatic was probably wrong but when pretty much the whole cast of people you are supposed to be supporting is killed off, I find it dissapointing.
Very well put together, a fantastic tribute. At 1.22 -Tarrant sliding around the Scorpio flight deck in her last few moments, this scene reminded me of dodgem cars.
Mate- this is genius work I've also checked out some of your other posts and they are all great! I started working on a retro BG title sequence myself but was trying to match it almost shot for shot (using the close up ship shots from the recent pilot to match the fleet from the original). I got about 10 seconds done in 6 months, but did work out that you could pretty much match the original sequence shot for shot with the new material. Maybe you can do better..
This is Realy so Good. I miss this show. Glad to see Avon still doing his bit on TV lately. Voice overs for Channel 4 (film 4 is brought to you by) has a blue elephant on it. also hi appeard in several episodes of emerdale farm. Can't beleive I watch all those episodes purely because he was in it !! Not watched it since. :-)
This is truly an excellent trailer and very well put together. Such a great shame that the powers that be couldn't iron their differences and bring it back to our screens
WAY back in 1981 I was a meer 4 years old, so the only Blake 7 I had vivid memories of was series 4. My much older brother didn't rate it highly and was full of tales of how it was better on the Liberator. So being kids we kind of divided the ships up ... he got the Liberator, I got Scorpio.
I know as a vehicle it wasn't much next to the mighty Liberator but it is *MY* ship and I have a soft spot for the under dog.
I'm getting goose bumps seeing it fly again to the music.
I was four in 1981 too. And I loved the Scorpio, and vividly remember it ploughing through the forest, and realising it was a lot smaller than I'd thought.
Might have been used for those, but it was made for another production. It was made in the pre-CGI days as well, so it's a real, physical model. Ah, the good old days.
I just shoved a couple of clips from Warlord because, the finale only being fifty minutes, there were only three settings: Scorpio, the forest and Blake's base. So it was looking a bit repetitive.
Well you did use three of the series finales in the trailer and that was always Blake's 7's strong point, but I agree that the music does give the trailer the epic feel all movies need.
As for the CGI, I'd not seen that shot of the Liberator when the trailer started and thought it was one of the CGI shots which had been added in to improve the eps when the DVD was released.
Excellently put together. Epic.
