  • Very informative video. Thanks for the post.

  • There can be issues if you are not experienced and don't select the patient properly. With dilution methods this would be exceedingly rare. I have not seen toxicity with phenol Studies do show EKG changes with the original deep peel on the entire face if done a certain way. Just need to pay attention and monitor for deep peels. Laser on the other can cause severe burns on occasion, but again, related to settings, depth, and doctor experience.

  • How much of the phenol gets into the system ? Are there any studies about systemic side effects ?

  • Chemical peels are better or laser treatments? Wrinkles, acne scars and blotchy skin.

  • Each specialist will recommend his or her preference for skin resurfacing. I just happen to get the results I like with Chemical Peels and often combine them with Dermabrasive Treatments for acne scars and blotchy skin. There is a resurgence in popularity of peels since there are more choices in agents, methods, and general maintenance, and they do not require a lot of expensive technology which changes every six months and often are equivocal in benefit.

  • I live in San Antonio, and I am thinking about doing this very soon. I have heard awesome stories in regards to Chemical resurfacing... Thanks

  • Dr. Hickman knows what he is doing with chemical peels - Had a tear trough Phenol peel. Which over 8 years later has held up and is beautiful. When I went to him I didn't explain it all. So we had some miscommunication and I wanted More done.

So when I called many years later for a simple cheek peel. He respectively declined to take me on as a patient. Said I was a perfectionist.

    Simple misunderstanding.

I do recommend him for peels

John Risden -Btw Still need cheek peel -call me

  • How much would the laser treatment cost and how long is its recovery time

  • The fees for laser or any skin resurfacing are determined by the skin problempresenting, skin type,, number of treatments, and degree of followup care. I take it by your question at age 18 you may be wondering about this form of therapy. It is important to see a patient face to face and ask what it is that is bothersome and if the benefit to risk factors would lead to a recommendation of care.

  • I have Small pock holes. I've done The TCA twice at 50% if not higher. But I really dont see much a difference, But dark marks are gone though. Do you think lasers will do a better job?

  • Thank you again. For darker complexions the healing from laser can be bit unpredictable and quite prolonged, but a dermabrasion plus TCA is in my experience, the most effective, for acne scars---- with the least side effects, and have using it in Latin, Asian, African, and middle eastern skin types. Some normal post sanding discoloration is to be expected for a number of weeks, but bleaching creams are prescribed . Do not expect complete smoothing, as it may require more than one session.

  • Going to a dermatologist is kind of a waste of money. Websites offer peels with comparable results, some even BETTER than dermatologist's procedures. Check out my peel reviews.

  • Thanks for your comments. The level of peel offered by over the counter and websites is salon level in depth and is used for the very superficial of skin problems. For deep scars, pigmentation, and harsh wrinkles, a physician-grade peel, laser, plasma energy, fractionated laser, and dermabrasion will always be more effective. A plastic surgeon ( this author ) and a Dermatologist may safely perform both superficial and deep skin resurfacing procedures.
